This historical drama starring Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes was recently given an earlier release date of Dec. 10, 2008 (in limited release), possibly in the hopes that the movie will prove to be Oscar bait. From the looks of this trailer, that logic may be good.
The Reader takes place in postwar Germany where "a young man's decades-long obsession with an older woman runs headlong into a war crimes trial, where he learns an awful truth."
Winslet appears to be perfect for this role, and I was really impressed with The Hours, which is another of director Stephen Daldry's films, so I'm curious to see this movie. To watch the trailer, read more.

I read this book a long, long, long time ago and it was really good. Can't wait to see it translate from book to film.
1looks good and Kate looks fantastic in it like always they better give her the Oscar this time.
2Great trailer!
It also looks as if they stayed very close to the book.
3I also really like David Kross in the trailer (the boy Kate's character has the affair with). I've seen him in two German films before and really liked him, so it'll be interesting to see him in an English-speaking role.
Wow, looks fantastic! Love Kate. I have to read this book before the movie releases.
4Looks great, and Kate's long overdue for an Oscar!
5i'm a big fan of kate's so it's nice to see this project for her. she typically does a great job in roles like these, so maybe we'll get to hear the oscar chatter..
6This looks fantastic! Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes together--what a winning combination. Looking forward to seeing this one for sure.
7This sounds like something I'd like...I adore Kate, she is a fabulous actress.
8I love Kate Winslet and this looks good but what kind of war crimes are they talking about? What did she do exactly? Are we not supposed to know?
9I think this one will be very good, Kate Winslet is always good and the story sounds very interesting.
10I'm so excited to see Kate Winslet again and in two great roles in Revolutionary Road and The Reader. So glad she ended up playing the part in the Reader instead of botox-faced, stiff Nicole Kidman or I wouldn't be this excited to see the Reader. Winslet for the Oscar!
11This movie looks incredible.
