Giddy from their record-breaking first weekend, the producers and studio execs behind Spider-Man 3 are falling over themselves with news and ideas for the next Spidey installments. Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chair Amy Pascal is claiming that "There'll be a fourth and a fifth and sixth and a seventh," and that "As many stories as Peter Parker has to tell, we'll do sequels." There are already rumors flying around about the villains that will be included in Spidey's fourth chapter: According to Cinematical, Spider-Man will have to face off with a man-sized lizard (called Lizard) along with Carnage the serial killer.
Sure, this sounds intriguing, but I'm still exhausted from this year's Spider-Man movie and the relentless onslaught of promotion that led up to its release. After this year they'll probably have to up the ante even more in that regard, which is virtually unfathomable. Also riding the sequel train is the Shrek series, the fourth of which may have just found a director. So, there's already buzz around a fourth movie when the third hasn't even hit theaters yet. Take a breather, guys!

It gets tiring watching the same old characters year after year, regardless of what they're doing or how they're doing it. It even gets tiring for the people who play the same old characters, as Keria Knightley recently admitted. After the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie, she's just tired of doing it. Heck, I'm tired of her doing it! Enough is enough.
Sticking to something that has proven successful in the past makes sense sometimes, but there has to be a saturation point someday... right? What happened to original scripts? I want fresh faces and new characters!

I agree, Buzz. It makes sense for something like "Lord of the Rings," which was meant to be a trilogy. But I feel like sometimes, the studios are only making these sequels because they made lots of money. I mean, I can we really keep carrying on that "Pirates" plotline?!

Well, no, not entirely. Hollywood's been abusing sequels left and right for years upon years, but I think lately studios are really looking at the HP series and thinking this giant epic series of sequels is something they've got to get in on.
(And I love Harry Potter.)
2I agree too- too manyu sequels just make a story sad. One or two is fine, but people really need to call it quits at some point.
3When you are dealing with movies based on a book series (HP, LOTR) or comic books you have a built in storyline and characters that people are familiar with. I can understand the sequels for these as they will continue to make money and are a representation of stories already in existence.
For films like Pirates and Shrek, the continual sequels are going to start to seem a bit annoying. Pirates was based on an amusement park ride! The fact that they have been able to milk 3 movies out of it is amazing, but I place that on Johnny Depp's brilliant shoulders.
4I agree. I like sequels fine when they're planned from the start (like LOTR was always intended to be a trilogy and Harry Potter was always intended to be seven books), but too often when sequels are made/written just because the first was so successful, they lose track of what made the first such a success to begin with and end up being kind of a joke, like the later Rocky movies.
5I agree with all of you. Enough is enough. When I read about the potential Spider Man 4, 5, and 6, I just groaned.
6Enough is enough. I can see the promise in doing spiderman 4 because of how great the movie is (well, I haven't seen spidey3 yet...but everyone else has)....but honestly? It's going to be aquaman 2. The glue that holds spiderman together have all lost interest.
7I just watched spidy 3 yesterday, and it really wasn't great..... so i dont think i'll be spending money on spiderman 4.
However, i have to say that shrek 3 looks pretty funny from the previews. But it's true, sequels do get old if the movie isn't actually going anywhere. At least with pirates 3, it's the end of the saga, whereas with spiderman 3, it was just another villian, although i suppose there were some loose ends to tie up
8I thought spiderman 3 was great and exciting. Yes, sequels are generally bad, but there are exception and I think Spiderman is one of them. If they have another one, then yes, that is so behind pushing it.
