Ah, October. The leaves are turning, the wind is gusting, and the kids of 90210 are going to the homecoming dance. It feels like a lifetime since I watched this show and have mixed emotions about its return to my Tuesday night.

I'm really glad Navid has a hefty part in this episode (as illogical as his motives may be) and also love it when they give Aunt Becky Debbie some juicy stuff to do besides being the nicest, prettiest mom ever. Personally, I'm still missing Brenda and Kelly and talk of Dylan, but I'm hanging in there. Ready to chat about it? Just read more.
- The opening montage lets us know that the high school is preparing for homecoming, and we see Naomi and Ethan on the wall nominated for queen and king, but did I miss something? Do we ever find out who won? That's half the fun of these dance episodes, right?
- Aw, I like how Dixon loves homecoming and Silver doesn't. Her line about why she is anti-dance is perceptive: "It’s everything wrong with this place."
- The Ryan and Kimberly-the-cop story is pretty lame, right? The part where he breaks up her circle of friends in the stairwell is kind of cringe-inducing. She flirts back (or something) and then he snaps, "You know what, Kimberly? You’re crossing the line. Knock it off."
- But of course later we learn he secretly didn't want her to knock it off because she's a cop! And she's 25 years old, so he's all clear to make out with her! Does anyone else find it creepy that he's attracted to someone who was a teenage student about a half hour before he was kissing her? Ack!
- So Ethan tells Annie he's not going to ask her to the dance but then tells her his "avoid Naomi's wrath" plan ("Here's the plan. You show up. Then — I show up. Then it will be, like, a total surprise").
- Here's a question: Is Adrianna the star of the show? Because there has been an awful lot of time spent on this character. As you know, she nearly died of a drug overdose last time we saw her. While she's still sweaty and sallow-looking, she did survive and confesses the whole thing, so Naomi is off the hook save for after-school detention.
- Oh, and some mysterious person pays for Adrianna to go to rehab. Turns out it's Navid, who's loved her since middle school. Huh? They could have maybe had Navid mention something about how downhill Adrianna's gone since childhood an episode or two ago to make this a bit more fluid.
- Meanwhile Naomi's in detention being snotty to a new boy who speaks Spanish and ribs her for being "A one-dimensional poster." She says something back to him in Spanish that is probably witty and mean. He's impressed. Clearly, they're going to fall in love (or lust).
- Later at the dance Annie asks who that guy is and Naomi says, "That's my detention buddy. He's a smartass," to which Annie remarks, "He's a hot ass." And then Naomi feels like that's exactly something she would say. Thus, they're on their way to being BFFs.
- How adorable was the Tabitha and Debbie scene? Tabitha gives Debbie some advice and confidence to take on Naomi's mom, who is kissing Debbie's husband: "I could squash you with an eyeroll, but you can take on Tracy." Aw, bonding!
- And then, at the dance, Debbie goes in for the kill: "If you ever kiss my husband again, or touch him, or look at him in the wrong way, you and I will have a very big problem . . . Let me define big problem just so we’re clear. I will hit you in the face so hard your teeth will fall out." Whoa. Awesome.
- So Naomi is really nice to Annie, inviting her over to get ready for the dance and stuff. And then, when she sees Annie dancing with Ethan, she's actually pretty calm and just says that she wants to be friends but not if she's dating Ethan. Annie pushes back and says they're broken up, but I think Naomi has a point with the "boys come and go but friends are forever" stuff. What do you think?
- Of course boy-crazy Annie can't help but make-out with Ethan in the end anyway. This is probably good because at least it's setting up a showdown between Naomi and Annie. Whose team will you be on?

So what did you guys think? Let's discuss!

TEAM KELLY TAYLOR!!!!!!!
1In the summary above, Buzz mentions that they need to make the writing more fluid - because the lack of it is not helping this show AT ALL. Last episode ends with Adrianna getting poked in the chest with a needle and potentially dead and all of a sudden she's in rehab. Navid has apparently been in love with Adriana since they were in elementary school - um, what? And seriously, they couldn't at least make the Ryan/Kimberly kiss happen in next week's episode? It had to be this one? I'm sure everyone saw it coming but come on! They're just making the Ryan character less likable - and apparently a lot of people already don't like him. I mean, it's like they're pulling these stories out of their asses. They need to be more coherent in their writing because right now it's all so abrupt and out of the blue. With each episode that I watch, I keep thinking "when did that happen?" or just plain "huh?"
2I don't like Kelly. Brenda is awesome.
This show is boring, I only watched because there was nothing else on. I do like Silver and Dixon though, they're a cute couple. I liked Shenae on Degrassi but she's a total snoozefest as Annie. I do not like Adriana, she does not fit in at all. I don't get why Navid would be into her. I prefer Gossip Girl to this BY FAR. Their cast has great chemistry and they're all nice to look at. Gotta love the fashion of course. And Chuck and Blair.
3I was annoyed with the spanish dialogue. They should have given us subtitles!!!
4"Does anyone else find it creepy that he's attracted to someone who was a teenage student about a half hour before he was kissing her?" Um, yes. I want this story line to suddenly disappear. I mean, they make story lines randomly appear from nowhere at least once an episode, why not go the other way?
I sort of like Annie and Naomi as friends, even if Annie in general kind of annoys me with her naive & wide-eyed middle America thing. But hey, at least there weren't any flared nostrils courtesy of Naomi this week. That something, right?
I have to say, Silver's wisdom teeth experience was a lot like mine -> lots of drugs = happy me, only to wake up a few hours later moaning and groaning about how bad my mouth hurt, and then feeling fine that same night.
5i also love dixon and silver as a couple, too cute!
6and adrianna, she rocks!
Spoiler alert for 90210 & Gossip Girl fans:
Yeah the writing is show is not fluid AT ALL. Although you have to admit Gossip Girl is like that too...I mean Nate and Jenny suddenly had feelings for each other last episode and made out. That was really sudden, as was Navid's longtime crush on Adrianna. That just came out of nowhere! It was nice that he paid for her rehab though. I also thought it was gross how Ryan kissed that undercover cop when he thought she was just a student a half an hour earlier. Haven't the writers heard of sexual tension? Build it up for a few episodes and then let them hook up. It's more satisfying that way.
Why is AnnaLynne McCord so bad at acting on this show? She was great on Nip/Tuck. I just don't get it. You can tell that she is going to have hot angry sex with that guy from detention. I couldn't give a crap about Annie and Ethan, although I'm warming up to them a little. Dixon and Silver are cute but I wouldn't think that she would be able to go to the dance so soon. When I got my wisdom teeth out, I didn't take Vicodin and I wasn't in a lot of pain but I definitely did not want to take my chipmunk cheeks out in public and go to a dance. Debbie Wilson (Aunt Becky) is AWESOME.
7I too wondered who won Homecoming queen and king. I actually rewatched it to see if I missed that somehow! I agree with the writing being semi bad. It's not like we have the uber cheesy donna martin lines anymore, but it should at least be consistent! Also, is Adriana a regular cast member now? hmmm... Anyone else think they need to extend the theme song and show the montage and poses ala BH 90210??
8Where is the DRAMA though? I thouhght Naomi was supposed to be the queen bee, squashing anyone that gets in her way? Hopefully she'll regain that title and take Annie with her. Then, Annie and Silver will no longer be friends, thus causing a riff between Annie and Deacon. Problems abound - drama regained - interest begins. It's a start at least...
9Oops...Dixon, not Deacon
10I think the Ryan and Kimberly story is HOT!
He´s so damned cute.
11well i missed this episode cause i was at a pretty cool event last night, but at least you've caught me up nicely - and well..i don't know who's side i would be on. i'm actually getting a bit tired of annie - am i the only one?
12no Ilanac, I was hoping they would kill her off this week. Well here's hoping for next week
13If they wanted the Ryan and Kimberely story to be cute and not creepy, they should have done they same thing as in "Never Been Kissed." He finds out she is really 25, feels confused and betrayed for awhile and then finally forgives her for lying and realizes he is in love with her all in one swoop. It would have been a carbon copy of that movie but at least you don't have people cringing...
14Buzz, I completely agree with you regarding Naomi's friendship request for Annie. 1st, lt me say I loved the ep, damn these young kids for getting me hooked again! Back to Naomi, I think it was very mature of her to come back and tell Annie "to her face" that they couldnt be friends if she pursured Ethan. I expected Naomi to flip out right there with both drinks in her hand and she really took the higher road. Annie has lost her damned mind! Rule # 1,a girl does not date her girl's ex's or run through crews. The fact she even made out with E at the end made me happy as I imagined all sorts of juicy revenge plans for Naomi....I was on Annie's side at first but this is a big NO NO in my book.
15Oh, man Team Naomi all the way! Honestly, I think of all the characters, she is the most interesting to watch. She has a lot of layers and a lot of stuff going on; as opposed to "sweet as candy" Annie. And I do think she had a point about Annie and Ethan and I think Annie should have thought about it more carefully. Plus, Naomi has the best wardrobe and hair, I think.
16I really hate Shenae Grimes' acting style. The whole pause, whiny face, pause, is really grating.
17I think part of the reason people find it disappointing is that they are expecting TOO MUCH that it will be like the old show, and it just isn't. If you let go of that and watch it for what it is, I think it's much more enjoyable.
I thought last nights episode was yummy. The whole dynamic with Naomi/Adriana/Navid was well done. I think Naomi handled it like most people would, but then came through, again like most people would do.
I'm getting a little tired of Dixon and his fawning all over Silver. Grow a pair man! I mean, I get that he likes her, but to the extent of losing who HE is? High school kids are too selfish for that to be close to reality. Okay, so not ALL of them are, but a big majority! And she couldn't tell he REALLY wanted to go after the scene in the hallway at school? Boy, is she dim or what!?
I absolutely adored Debbie's scene with Tracy. When she said she'd knock her teeth out, I freakin' CHEERED! Tracy's fake smile just irritated me and Debbie wiped it right off her face.
The Narc girl - I saw that whole thing coming from the other side of the world. As soon as Ryan caught her and tried to get Harry to do something and found out why he wouldn't, I saw that kiss coming. I mean, you KNEW it would. BUT, it's again really bad writing, because if she was truly a narc she would be warned off of romantic involvements because if caught, it's going to either A) blow her cover or B) cost Ryan his job (For being caught in a compromising position with a student).
There were some things that were very reminiscent of the old show too. 1st, was Naomi getting a bunch of detention. Steve Sanders much? 2nd, the Naomi/Ethan/Annie dymanic SMACKED of the Brenda/Dylan/Kelly drama. Why? Well, because when Kelly and Dylan started dating they didn't tell Brenda and when Brenda found out she went Ballistic. I can see this happening when Naomi finds out that Annie is secretly dating Ethan after she expressly asked her not to. 3rd, Navid/Adriana - That smacked of the original Dylan/Brandon dynamic. Not the in love part, but the part about being a good person and wanting to save a lost soul. If you look, the similarities are definitely there.
And after all this, I realize I am WAY too invested in both shows. Lord I need to get out more. LMAO
Overall though, the episode caught and held my attention, and that's what I've been waiting for.
18mykie, I loved your post! Especially the part relating the two shows. I agree completely with the triangle and the steve sanders' detention. I LOVE SS. hahaha However, I never saw the part that you wrote:"3rd, Navid/Adriana - That smacked of the original Dylan/Brandon dynamic. Not the in love part, but the part about being a good person and wanting to save a lost soul. If you look, the similarities are definitely there" But I totally agree! It does seem that is similar. Dylan and Brandon were always one upping each other in their altruistic ways. GOOD CALL!
19Thanks Lauren, like I said, I spend WAY too much time analyzing this show. LOL
20Lol- Seriously Mykie! You thought last episode was yummy? lol
I think Silver is hot and I love her with Dixon. Loved that whole storyline. The Annie and Naomi thing was cool, I'm glad they are getting along although I felt like since Adrianna is out of the picture, Naomi needs a new BFF and Annie will do for the time being. Or until she makes out with Ethan. Very realistic to high school I think.
Side-note: I hated that when Debbie asked Principal Hottie to talk to Naomi's mom because she has a problem with it, he kinda blows her off. And then at the party when she finally is gonna tell her off, she comes up with the lamest thing ever that I would honestly laugh at. My mom is THE nicest person I have ever met, but I have also seen her switch on the "crazy b*tch" button and I was terrified. I wanted it to be like that. Grow a pair Becky! Jeez.
Overall, I need Kelly and Brenda back soon or I'm gonna quit it. I swear.
21Yeah, she might have needed to be a little more "harsh" in her retort to Tracy, however, being the principal's wife, she had to have SOME decorum, and I believe that's why the cheesy line was used instead of her REALLY saying what she thought.
And Bri, quit swearing, it's not becoming of your beautiful face. LOL
