The next album by Guns N' Roses, Chinese Democracy, has been a long time coming. Like, recording started in 1994 kind of "long time." Dr Pepper even made the bold offer to hand out a free can of soda "to 'everyone in America' (excluding ex-GNR members Slash and Buckethead)" if the album is released within the 2008 calendar year. Today we may be one step closer to that free can of fizzy goodness: the first official single off Chinese Democracy has hit the airwaves.
We can't download it just yet — the track has been released for radio play only — but you can go here to listen. I wasn't sure I was such a fan when I took a first spin-through, but it's really growing on me. It takes a long time building up, which is annoying, but once it's really running along, it's fun to listen to. It's nowhere near the greatness of classic GNR (you know, "Paradise City," "Sweet Child o' Mine," "Welcome to the Jungle"), but for the modern age, I can definitely see myself not changing the channel when this driving rock song plays on the radio.
What do you think? Is Axl back?

I have to wonder what an album that started in 1994 will sound like. I mean, the music then was completely different than it is now, so I can't really imagine.
1Good point tlsgirl!
I don't think Axl will ever be back fully. I'm going to have to give this song sometime to grow on me. As of right now, it's just ok. And I love me some Guns N' Roses. Patience is the ringtone on my cell.
2I would buy the cd so long as the don't keep saying "Music on Demand" throughout every freaking song.
I was getting into the song and then I hear "MUSIC ON DEMAND". Ruined by GNR buzz.
3It is not bad and I give Slash mad kuds for rippin it as always, but I am feeling nostalgic for classic GNR and I don't think this is cutting it, good luck to those guys though I hope the rest of Chinese Democracy is better!
4Axl Rose's voice has always sounded like fingernails on a chalkboard to me, so I was kind of hoping they would never come back. Sad day for music, sad day.
5I can't believe this actually exists!
6I agree Allyace, I can't stand Axl Rose's voice either. I was also hoping that they would never come back, because my brother will make me listen to this all day long.
7OK, I admit: I already have the album. You know me, #1 fan. It's like Axl techno? That's all I'm revealing . . .
8i think that it's going to be interesting to see how well this is received. i think that this is one of those bands that was very iconic for the era, and i know that my generation will be excited but i don't know about the younger generation.
9The song was actually better than expected. I wasn't surprised there was such a slow build-up...a lot of rock and metal bands are like that (i.e. Metallica) but it can get annoying.
