Raising awareness and funds when it comes to fighting breast cancer is only half the battle. Tonight's TV movie on Lifetime, Living Proof, shows that for the doctors and scientists working on a cure, the fight has just begun.
Starring Harry Connick Jr., Living Proof "is the true story of oncologist and researcher Dr. Dennis Slamon, the UCLA doctor who helped develop the breast cancer drug Herceptin, and his effort to keep the drug trials afloat."
Based on the clips I've watched, Dr. Slamon faced down messy politics and sacrificed a great deal to help women suffering from breast cancer, so it seems like an inspiring true story to air during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The movie also stars Bernadette Peters, Amanda Bynes, Angie Harmon, Swoosie Kurtz, Tammy Blanchard and Regina King, and Renée Zellweger is one of the executive producers.

This was such a good movie! It made me cry!
1i saw the commercials for it and never managed to catch it - and i forgot to set my DVR but hopefully Lifetime will re-air it, otherwise i'll see if i can track it down online.
2OMG... it was godawful. I wanted so much to like it, I really did. Huge Harry fan. My girlfriend, my daughter and I even had a New Orleans themed dinner party around the viewing.... it was just bad. No character development, very predictable dialogue...I really liked Regina King, she did a great job. Other than that... pass.
3I enjoyed the movie a lot. There were flaws to it, sure, but it really shed light on how long it takes for cancer drugs to actually get approved. I was glad the movie was realistic with showing that people do die from cancer because that is the truth. It was important, too, to see that this doctor had many things he was dealing with, a lot focused on his home life, which showed him as a real person.
4My mother passed away last year, and actually did take the drug herceptin that this movie was about. I'm sure it extended her life very much, so I'm thankful that they made a movie showing the history of the drug.
