Remember The Odyssey? You may know this epic poem, in conjunction with The Iliad, from such places as English class. Well, Brad Pitt and Warner Bros. turned The Iliad into the 2004 movie Troy, and now they're drawing from Homer again to bring The Odyssey to the big screen — only this time it'll be set in the future. And in space. Variety has details:
Their intention is to transfer the tale to a futuristic setting in outer space.
Warner Bros. has quietly set up The Odyssey, and the early hope is that Pitt will star and [George] Miller will direct, with Pitt's Plan B producing.
Both Homer poems dealt with the Trojan War; The Odyssey focused on the exploits of Odysseus, who hatched the idea to build the Trojan Horse. The Odyssey deals with his long journey home after he declines to become a god.
Well, OK. This could be a cool and imaginative adaptation. At the moment, however, all I can envision is Troy set on the moon. Any Odyssey lovers out there? How does this project strike you?

"The Odyssey" is one of my favorite books, & I'm excited to see this adaptation. I think that having it set in space will resonate the same way with us as the original telling of the story did with the ancient Greeks, for whom many of these far-off lands & ocean voyages were foreign & fantastic.
1Um. Okay.
Yeah, that's all I got.
2Dear God. The massacred Iliad in Troy, so I think Brad Pitt should stay hella away from Homer. Have some respect.
3well i think that i'm kind of tired of films that are about this era, and now that they are doing it in space? does brad really want to become a joke? that's just not a good movie in my opinion, but who knows - they may surprise me!
4I just realized something - Sean Bean was playing Odysseus in Troy, so if he reprises his role I don't mind seeing it at all
5Oh god, this gives me nightmares about my classical mythology course in college. My professor was insane.
6I hated The Odyssey. And this just sounds stupid.
7I love greek myth- Odyssey included. But I HATE this idea!! I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!!
8Ugh. He needs to realize that these epic movies just aren't working for him!
9The Odyssey in space? Who do they think is acually going to go see this film? EW.
10Sorry, sounds very lame.
11When I was a younger girl (xD) I watched a TV show based on The Odyssey taking place in outer space! Seriously!

12Ok, not TV show... anime...
but (to me)this is not an original idea... I wonder if the criators of the anime know about this...
13I remeber this one! Have you been watching Yatterman as well?
Hmm, sounds like a kind of rip off then.
14Hmmm.. I don't know about this. But I'm a pretty open minded person, so I'll have to reserve judgement until I can at least see a trailer or something. You never know, this might translate well into film. Or maybe not.
15This sounds like it would be very difficult to pull off...it just doesn't sound right. I would like to see a decent adaptation of The Odyssey, as it was written and not set in outer space.
16If think if Joss Whedon were set to adapt and direct this, I would be all in. I could see his vision making the idea of Homer's The Odyssey in space. Considering his track record with mythic creatures (Buffy and Angel), and space (Firefly, Serenity), he's one of the few people who could make it work. Robert Zemeckis might work too.
Otherwise, this sounds like a Mel Brooks production. And, considering Mel Brooks probably won't be involved, that's not a complement.
Speaking of which, when is Jews in Space getting made?
17No no no no no!!
