Showtime's got several intriguing new shows on its roster, and recently, the network released first glimpses of two of them: The United States of Tara and Nurse Jackie, both of which have intriguing actresses in the lead roles.
The United States of Tara, which premieres in January, stars Toni Collette as a woman with multiple-personality disorder. The clip has some scenes from the show, and in between those, the stars (and writer Diablo Cody) talk about how the project came together out of an idea from Steven Spielberg.
Nurse Jackie, which stars Edie Falco as a nurse walking the line between saint and sinner, doesn't have a premiere date yet, but I've been curious about it ever since I saw a haunting trailer for it back at TCA. Unfortunately, this clip doesn't have quite the drama of that trailer, but it's still nice just to get an idea of what the show will look like.

Toni Collette and Edie Falco are two of my favorites; I'll be checking out both of these shows. Love Diablo Cody's philosophy that comedy should only be written about serious things. Good point.
1i'm so excited that these actresses have new shows and hopefully the y will end up being great additions to the schedule. i'm a sucker for new types of shows that aren't necessarily the same thing that we've seen before, but may not be 100% mainstream. i'm looking forward to January i guess!

What, are you having a writers' strike? Or is it that you actually have no IDEA what real nurses are like, because you've been watching too much ER and Grey's Anatomy?
4I watched Nurse Jackie's first episode twice now and loved it!!! Edie Falco is perfect for this part! Definately a must see!!!
5SHAME on Showtime, for this irresponsible portrayal of nurses. Come on, Showtime, 3 boob grabs in a 5 minute preview...... really? So the image of nurse as sex object for doctors continues.... but this time you decided to make her a drug addict as well. I'm canceling my Showtime subscription.....
