On this week's Gossip Girl, the whole gang goes on a field trip to Yale to try to impress the dean and secure admissions. Because suddenly, Yale is the school everyone (save for Jenny and Vanessa) dreams of attending. Dan and Nate conveniently gave up on their previously chosen schools for various reasons, and after a tongue-lashing from Blair about how Brown is "an enclave of trustifarians" and dreadlocked hippies, Serena decides Yale is the place for her, too.

And what criteria is Chuck using to determine what institution of higher learning will help him meet his life goals? Secret societies, of course. All in all, a pretty fun episode, wouldn't you say? Let's chat about it — just read more!
- I love how Serena has turned into the Paris Hilton of the show (early years Paris, anyway) and is all over the press for being a socialite and in a fashion show. She's a bigger star than her own mother ("Sorry they called you my unidentified friend.").
- Chuck has so many fun lines based on his thoughts about college it's hard to pick a place to start, but his early conversation with Nate is full of gems like "We are three hours away from horny women's studies majors" and something about creating his own freshman 15.
- Yale's dean tells Dan he needs more letters of recommendation and should go to the English department to get one. Does this strike anyone else as weird? Why would professors of the school you are attempting to get into recommend you when they don't know you?
- Chuck and Nate sit around campus waiting for the Yale secret society Skull and Bones to find them. The way they pop out and grab Chuck is so funny!
- We learn that Nate's dad is basically responsible for any financial hard times these rich kids have endured — like losing a vacation home on the coast — so they all hate him ("He's the new Milken").
- The Skull and Bones dudes tell Chuck they love him because "rumor has it you’ve slept with more Maxim covers than John Mayer." Lovely.
- While Nate makes out with a girl who thinks he's Dan and Chuck arranges a party for the secret society, the girls actually work on getting into the school by impressing the dean. He fawns over Serena but finds Blair to be boring. When he asks her for a fun personal anecdote, he cites Serena's story about being in a fashion show. Oh, sure, that would impress the dean of Yale. Sheesh.
- Blair sort of loses it with the dean after that: "My hair might not sparkle when it catches the light!" Brownnosing her way into his exclusive party via some cat figurines for his secretary was brilliant, though.
- At the party, Serena corrects Blair in a conversation about an old Pope and later tells Blair she learned that by watching The Tudors.
- So of course Blair freaks out about Serena winning the Yale war and brings up the guy Serena killed in front of the dean. Ha!
- Best line Blair screams at Serena: "I’m sick of always looking like Darth Vader next to Sunshine Barbie!"
- Their fight was crazy mostly because of the bow in Blair's hair. Serena: "I hate your stupid headband!" Blair: "Ow! My headband!"
- The best part of the night for me is when Chuck tells the Skull and Bones dudes that he basically set up the whole naked girl party to frame them with pictures. Because they're the future leaders of America, this was all part of the plan, as Chuck aims to rule the world one day, I'm sure.
So the girls are friends again (so soon?), Dan and Nate seem to be getting along well, Jenny gets to be home-schooled, and Chuck is brooding. What did you think of last night? Let's discuss!

I thought there were alot of "Huh?" moments in this episode. Since when does Ntae want to go to any Ivy? Didn't he want to go to USC or something? The whole English professor thing didn't make sense to me either. Was the short haired girl a professor? She looked a little young for that. Serena's white top was completely inappropriate for a college interview. Slutty, slutty, slutty, as Michael Kors said. All in all, completely unrealistic, but a fun episode.
1
This episode couldn't hold my concentration, but it was okay. I need to watch it again online.
2I love Chuck. Although I wonder what's going to happen between him and Nate, now that he called Dan "nothing?"
3The Yale admissions department must be pulling their hair out! Somehow I don't think this is the image they want to project. Plus, I love the fact they shot the episode on the Columbia campus and called it Yale. Hello Journalism building! Hello Kent! Hello Butler!
Serena's shirt was waaaay to low cut for an admissions interview, but her making fun of Blair's headbands made my week! Is it just me, or is Blair's outfit in the final scene very un-Blair? Queen B would rip a girl apart for mixing those two patterns! All in all, the episode was just prep for the rumored GG continuation at Yale since this is senior year.
4fleurfairy - I agree about Serena's outfits at her interview and the dean's party. Far too revealing for admissions events but maybe that's all part of Serena's sunshine and sparkles
5this epi was ok for me, I love it when Chuck told Serena that talking about Yale with Blair gets her all ____
6hahaha
Of course the dean liked you Serena - you were wearing a white top cut down to your bellybutton!
Anyway, I loved the Maxim line after Chuck, and pretty much everything Chuck, actually. His wardrobe cracks me up week after week. And I love that Serena screamed that she hated Blair's headband, because quite frankly, so do I. She's a pretty girl, stop trying to giftwrap her head!
I didn't really get the whole bit about the recommendations either. Normally you'd need to have had the professor, or some sort of personal relationship, right? I mean, I wasn't under the impression that you could just walk up and ask for one.
7Blake Lively's mumbling is getting on my nerves.
Vanessa is such a useless character, she doesn't really serve any purpose nor is able to do something else than stalk Humphreys or annoy others.
Did Nate and Dan spent a night together with that Yale girl? At some point I got this vibe from them
And Chuck Bass owns everyone! Except for Nate
"We'll talk about it in the car" - welcome to the gayville! Seriously, they are like ol' gay married couple!
George Sand="some George guy" - and Serena is really Yale material?
Agrhh...
I so feel for Blair, she works so hard for everything and in the end Serena gets it without really wanting it.
I thought recalling Pete at Dean's party was quite low blow. It shows how desperate Blair is and it saddens me. But I LOVE her anyway.
8wasnt my fave ep. but i loved it nonetheless. i loved serenas white outfit but i agree, it wasn't appropriate for a talk with the dean. blair's outfit was way more dignified.
i love the comments coming from chuck. i love him.
i can't wait for next week's but i don't understand why blair wants chuck to seduce vanessa. what'd she "do" now?
9I really did feel for Blair last night, although why go through all that hard work to get into the dean's party and then make a total ass out of yourself once there??
Last night they were treating all the friendships like intimate relationships. Glad that Serena and Blair are back together, but OMG Nate's cheating on Chuck with Dan!!!
10Blair wants to destroy Vanessa because she tries to blackmail her into being nice to people with that Lord Marcus/Catherine photo.
Vanessa Abrams is stupid.
11I agree with you Susanna on the whole Yale thing! I thought last night's ep was good but def a lot of what the... moments. Next episode seems to be really interesting though as always can't wait
122 more things:
1)Blair's face when Pete's name is read aloud at Dean's Party=priceless
2)I loved when Dorota told Blair how proud she is of her. What they have is almost mother/daughter relationship.
13Henry Cavill being mentioned by Serena - plus points for her. Haha. But I think he looked his yummiest in The Count of Monte Cristo. But then she dissed Blair's headbands.. so, minus points for her. Lol.
And did you guys see Blair's halter sleepwear? Who wakes up looking fab like that? Love it. And Dorotha knowing about Marc Jacobs naming a bag after Serena... that girl is so updated! Or was it Michael Kors? Whatev. I can't remember.
And Lily! You made Rufus' jaw drop with S's sexy black dress. These two are getting back together in the future, I swear.
The secret society thing made me think of Skulls. I'm not so crazy about Fringe so this brings back a lot of fond memories of Pacey. Hehee. And Paul Walker! Btw, nobody owns Chuck Bass secret society boys, Chuck Bass owns you (with nose flaring, if I may add. Lol. He's still a bad boy hottie though). Almost everything in this show is so farfetched, so unrealistic.. but that's what makes it such a fun show. And the clothes. Definitely.
14I literally lol'd at this episode. I love all of Blair's freak out moments.
15Why is it such a big deal if Jenny wants out of High School? She already has a major in in the career she wants. Why is she being home schooled? She's probably smart enough to take the GED and pass. She could take the GED, go to community collage, get her Associate degree, and the go to collage almost anywhere by the time she would've actually graduated. That sounds like the smartest thing she could possibly do.
Oh and when Blair kissed the dean on the cheek!!!! OMFG!! HAHAHAHA!!! That was soooo awkward!
16I don't think Blair was bribing the secretary with cat figurines. I think she stole them from her desk and was threatening to put them up for auction at Christie's if she didn't get her way. Come on, this is evil Blair, giving presents isn't her style
17I love Dorota.
Btw, I think Blair is only using Vanessa as a ploy to get back at Chuck for coming between her and Serena with his schemes. What did Vanessa really do to Blair? Sure she went to the Duke when Blair told her to do nothing but Vanessa didn't spill the beans about Catherine sleeping with Marcus(as far as I know). Unless she's just pissed about Dan knowing about it and she hates Vanessa for it.
18My favorite part of the episode was when the Skull & Bones boys ripped the bag off of Chuck's head and his first action was fixing his hair!! So cute!
The whole plot line with little J was so predictable. I was bored with her.
I was sad when N dissed Chuck for saving him being tied to a pole in his undies! How could N be so mean to Chuck and now all buddy buddy with D?
19Indielove I love Dorota too! I feel bad when Blaire is rude to her but she must know how she is. She's so cute though!
I love Chuck but I really hate when he's a douchebag. His outfits do crack me up though!
20Oh and I really liked Nate in this episode!
21I wasn't too impressed by the episode, was a bit boring imo.
Serena was sooo annoying, and at
the end I was still angry she made it into the school by being blonde and pretty while Blair was left out - for some reason the plots always revolve around Serena being genuinely "better"
than Blair.
And Nate's an idiot. No specific reason, I just want to shake him so he starts being such a pretty puppy.
22Ha sorry Amloveaffair, I wasn't replying to your last post, I just saw it!
23This is official description of the next episode:
BLAIR CONVINCES CHUCK TO SEDUCE VANESSA — Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) uses the scandalous picture of Catherine and Marcus to blackmail Blair (Leighton Meester) into being a nicer person, so Blair seeks revenge by enticing Chuck (Ed Westwick) to seduce Vanessa. Lily (Kelly Rutherford) and Bart (guest star Robert John Burke) throw an extravagant housewarming party and expect their children to make them proud in front of the attending press, but a rebellious Serena (Blake Lively) isn’t ready to play by their rules. Meanwhile, Dan (Penn Badgley) and Jenny (Taylor Momsen) discover a big secret that Nate (Chace Crawford) has been keeping from his friends. Matthew Settle also stars. Tony Wharmby directed the episode written by Lenn K. Rosenfeld
24I agree with everyone on this episode having some huh moments. I don't know what was up with Blair but I found all her outfits while she was at Yale out of character. And I think I like her with the curly hair a lot more, adds some pizazz to her.
About Chuck and Nate, I felt so bad for Chuck when he got 'dumped' haha, especially since it was last episode where Blair rubs it in that at least Dan's dad like him, all Nate has/had was Nate. Nate though, he's just there to showcase how sad Chuck is and be eye candy because other than that, I don't really see his point.
And I don't care why Blair goes after Vanessa since she bothers me so much, so far all she's done, as someone said, is stalk the Humpreys, given advice they would've reached themselves or created drama while staying on her moral ground. She's sort of like a female Dan but less amusing. Though if Chuck wants to get back on Nate's good side this is not the way to do it.
25Thanks, Papaver.
Weird but I'll go along with it. Sounds like a stupid revenge plot though.
26I love Chuck's outfits. He looked hot. I'm loving the new hair too, as compared to last season.
27Even my husband loves this show (though I'm sure he wouldn't want any of his friends to know that!); we look forward to hearty laughs every Monday night. It's so much fun BECAUSE it's so unrealistic. I mean really, would Serena wear jeans and a low-cut top (and then an even lower cut dress) to impress the dean of Yale? I think not.
I'm still dying to know what Chuck's dad has on Lily - what's in the envelope??!
28TheEnchantedOne, in my opinion Henry looked the very yummiest in Tristan & Isolde. Between he and Rufus Sewell, it was difficult to concentrate on James Franco's hotness!
29come on - you guys all know that it's so easy to bribe the dean's assistant with cats from Christies right? i think that a lot of it is fun.
but we all forget that all of a sudden vanessa is back, and that little jenny is now home schooled?
30i had to miss the last 20 min of the show
31I love Chuck "I OWN you"
32I thought the episode was pretty funny. Loved all the Chuck scenes of course. He is so funny. Of course my favorite scene was the fight. Hilarious. The headband drama was super duper funny.
33I loved this episode, it was way too funny, that's what I liked most about it. I laughed so hard at Serena's headband line. But I also love Blair and Serena's relationship so much that I'm glad they're back to being friends. I have to say that what I liked the most was Dan being tortured and the Skulls coming out of nowhere.
34Nate is boring. Chuck is better off without him. He only talks about himself or his girls or his dad or his mom. Its always "me".
And Serena is annoying as hell. And more annoying than her is this whole thing "Serena is better", "Serena is prettier", "Serena outshines Blair".
Blair is the one PRETTY, smart and funny. IMHO Serena is not only kinda ugly, but nothing adorable like they all want us to believe. And if Yale wants people like her, good luck. As far as i know, she doesn't even have good grades.
35I have to say I missed all the great music that usually accompanies GG. But this episodes did amuse me due to Chuck's great (laughable) wardrobe! an his "I own you!" quote, and Serena's "I hate your stupid headband!" Me too!!!
36Weird story line, but lots of good lines. "I hate your stupid headband!" was awesome.
Did anyone else think it was super mega creepy when Jenny hugged her dad and then lingered there with her arms around his neck? That is not an age when you're so touch feely with your dad. She looked like she was going to kiss him on the lips.
37Ha!
This ep brought back fond memories of Paul Walker and Pacey for me too, loved The Skulls. This show reminds me of Cruel Intentions and a lot of my faves growing up.
38lol! that kiss blair gave the dean was from one of the books!
39Serena is dressing way too slutty in this episode. I couldn't stop staring at her cleavage.
Chuck is my absolute favorite. Now he has blackmail on the future presidents and senators
I just got HD for my cable and Blair is so pretty in HD...Serena, not so much...
40omg... I just wrote a HUGE post and accidentally deleted it... I don't have time to do it again now- crude!!
41HA Chuck Bass OWNS YOU. Love it.
42Chuck Bass is my favourite character. well him and Blair. HE IS SOOO HAWT. and shes so pretty. and they are my favourite couple as well. and yeah Blair is prettier than serena.
43They did make Yale admissions seem like a joke. I loved the headband comment, but there was also a comment about a 'chicken wing' that Blair says but I did not totally catch. I also thought Nate's dad went somewhere else to school, not Yale. ??
44I LOVED it!!!....i kinda like every single episode
but
whatever....i really liked when Serena said : i hate Ur stupid headband then Blair: ow my headband......but isn't the dean at Yale supposed to be just the opposite of that??!!:S:S
O N LOVE LEIGHTON MEESTER (way more than Blake!)... n chace Crawford is so hot!!!
45I missed this episode becuase of work, and I was wondering if anyone knew where to watch the episode online? I would so appreciate it very very very much!!!!!!
46Cheytown, I think my flatmate uses a site like surfthechannel.org or something like that.
