HBO has some interesting projects in the works these days, and one I'm definitely following is the adaptation of The Washingtonienne, which is being executive-produced by none other than Sarah Jessica Parker. The network has just picked its leading ladies, so let's meet the women who will soon be cavorting around Washington:
- Rachael Taylor (left, best known for Transformers) will play Jackie, the central character who comes to DC from New York to work as a speechwriter but starts out as a lowly intern.
- Bitsie Tulloch (center, best known for Quarterlife) will play April, a college friend of Jackie's and now her Capitol Hill mentor. She's living "a prematurely middle-age lifestyle" with her boyfriend, an aide to a high-powered senator.
- Amanda Walsh (right, best known for Sons and Daughters and Disturbia) rounds out the trio as small-town girl Laura, a workaholic with conservative views that she's constantly having to defend.
Fans of the book, does any of this sound familiar? And whether you've read the book or not, do these sound like 20-somethings you'd want to get to know?

Go DC!
1Cutler gained noteiety for her affairs w/married congressman, not high-fiving her for this one.
2Haha, I sound like April! I am ma small town girl with conservative values who can be a workaholic and is CONSTANTLY defending my views and myself. haha. One of my "big time city" coworkers used to actually talk down to me because i was from a small town. But that's DC!
3I never read the book, but I did read some of the Jessica Cutler's original blog The Washingtonienne and she came across are nothing more than a high class prostitute. . . bragging about make $500 on her lunch break for giving some guy a blowjob.
That said, I like Rebecca Taylor, and I'm sure if SJP is attached is producing the show will be awesome, but I cant support giving cutler any more money and fame
4Can't wait! Living in DC and having (sadly) more than one friend who slept her way to the top of The Hill, this should be goooood
5Are 2 of the 3 characters both named April?
6whoops, good catch, sumbum. Amanda Walsh's character's name is Laura.
7I am REALLY excited about this show.
8no, it's nothing like the book... that i remember, anyway.
that's probably a good thing, though. while i typically enjoy chick lit (in moderation), jessica cutler's book disgusted me.
cutler actually was busted and fired for blogging at work which is where the premise of the book came from. The main character was pretty soulless and wh*red herself out for cash and career advancement. blech.
9Amanda Walsh aka Laura started off as a VJ on Much Music in Canada. Good to see she's gone on to other projects!
10well i think that SJP is known for taking lesser knowns and bringing them to the forefront, so i hope that this project does just that. i'm looking forward to see what the show is like when it's done going through production, and i think that there's a chance that she may score big again!
11mellybean- I totally agree. This book was not that good. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think any of the girls in the book were trying to "defend their conservative beliefs."
12I LOVED LOVED this book and i'm so excited to see the show!!!
13What IS this Sex and the City in Washington D.C.? I GAG at the concept!
14I'm sort of interested if it's going to be about real women, but this cast looks like a joke, and there isn't a single compelling star in the mix yet. It'll probably be another cougar-epic where chicks put looking sexy while making loads of cash in front of having a soul.
I figure, SJP wants all the credit and complete control, and is keeping anyone out of the mix that might undermine her.
Here in Canada Amanda Walsh is best known for previously being a loveable MuchMusic VJ.
15Long before Disturbia.
