Nicole Kidman has married millionaires twice, so maybe she can bring some first-hand experience to her upcoming project: The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Kidman's Blossom Films will produce a remake of How to Marry a Millionaire, the 1953 movie starring Marilyn Monroe, for 20th Century Fox. No word yet on whether the actress will slip into the role originated by Marilyn, though HR does call it "a potential starring vehicle" for Kidman. According to the story:
Sacha Gervasi, who wrote Steven Spielberg's "The Terminal," has been tapped to pen the screenplay, which will be a contemporary-set reinterpretation of the Marilyn Monroe classic. ... Plot details for the updated "Millionaire" are being kept under wraps, but it is described as a complete overhaul of the original story.
Kidman is a great actress, but I hope she casts someone else in the Monroe role. (Anyone got any ideas besides Scarlett Johansson?) There's just something about Kidman's slender frame and chilly demeanor that fails to say "voluptuous" to me.
However, the movie actually has three main female roles (all of them women who set out to trap and marry millionaires), so perhaps Kidman could cast herself in one of the other parts, originally played by Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall. Either way, it sounds like the project has some promise.

Nicole looks alot better than MM ever did!
1that's a hard one 'cause most actresses are super skinny. though i think nicole has the acting chops to do it, but like buzz said, she doesn't scream "voluptuous". perhaps catherine zeta-jones or kate winslet??
2After the BeWitched fiasco, you would think Nicole would stay away from remakes
3I would say perhaps Charlize, but they'd have to do the reverse hollywood thing and have her put a couple pounds on a la bridget jones diary.
4I agree with you that Kidman simply cannot fill Monroe's role (or her dress for that matter). But she would be perfect in the Lauren Bacall role, which was that of an intelligent, somewhat calculating woman, super tall and thin, who put the whole idea of roping millionaires together. That role fits Nicole to a tee.
Jessica Simpson is an idea for the Monroe role: they're both (at least Jessica WAS) voluptous, goofy blondes. With Monroe, that goofiness was a carefully constructed facade, with Simpson, I'm not so sure.
5I don't think ANYONE should be taking Marilyn's role. Why can't Hollywood come up with original ideas and just let classics be just that, classics.
6Hmmm, I think if they're going to make it contemporary how about Halle Berry, or Salma Hayek? Elisha Cuthbert, Kate Winslet, Angeline Jolie or Rose McGowan. Whew...let me stop now before I name every actress ever lol
7I say the following in a playful but a teeny weeny bit serious kinda a way: Someone thick to play MM please! After all the girl was a size 12! Hello back off waifs. LOL
Someone we can trust to gain a couple pounds, dye hair her blonde, and give
the role some justice...maybe Sara Rue, Kate Winslet, or Toni Collete. Or how about someone new with history modeling like Emme (Melissa "Emme" Aronson http://www.emmestyle.com/)?
8My first thought was Selma Hayek, she would be great!
9Oh no..please do not cast Jessica Simpson in anymore movies!!! Anyone but her.. a trained seal or a monkey perhaps.. but not Jessica!!!
ScarJo and Nicole and Emmy Rossum or something..please lets not wreck another perfect movie with Jess the Mess!
10I agree-- NO Jessica Simpson! She might be voluptuous and up for gaining a few pounds, but nooooooooo!
11Hmmmm, for this, I would say no to Scarlett Johansson, Emmy Rossum(she's too damn scrawny, nary a curve), Nicole Kidman, Jessica Simpson, and any other a-lister. This is one of those movies where an unknown curvy actress is a must. Hell, I'm going to go as far as to say myself, yep, Sarah E. Nelson should portray Marilyn Monroe's role if the remake would follow through. I was going to say Anna Nicole Smith had she still been alive, she would've been perfect.
However, I personally think Hollywood should just stick with being original such as making movies based on a book(a book that has had no movie produced). Leave this Monroe classic alone.
Nicole Kidman as the next Marilyn Monroe? That's a joke in itself, she's too damn scrawny.
12Yeah but i think Nicole could capture her essence. She could have the breathy MM vibe.
13Nicole will be great.
14i think it would be a good idea to bring in a new acctress, i dont know if they should just pic from the hollywood actresses from now because they are well known, the only one i can think of reali is charlize theron

16I agree with juicylucy08. Why remake the classics? When the classics were made way back then, writers, producer and directors thought of these ideas on there own. Why can't people today think of nice ideas like this on their own?
17This is kinda silly, but hasn't anyone seen Happy Feet? In that, Nicole voiced this breathy sexpot. And sure, there wasn't a visual element to her acting, but I think that her range is unfairly being categorized as limited. I mean, you just have to see Moulin Rouge to know that she can play sexy.
I agree with some of the above comments, though: they're going to have to go with an unknown to play Marilyn here. The only way it could work would be if they cast someone who will slip in, get some critical acclaim, and never be heard from again.
18I agree with VolleyJen, Charlize Theron should DEFINETELY play the part of Marilyn Monroe in the movie, Nicole Kidman can also play Marilyn Monroe, she is a great actress and you guys are saying she's so skinny, she can gain weight.
19Physically she's not quite there, but I think she would do a great job. I love her and I think she could play Marilyn well.
20There is NO one who can fill Monroe's shoes. Period. i am so tired of hearing stars say they are Marilyn reincarnated.. I think if they were that would be the LAST thing Marilyn would ever say.. lolz..
As for the film .. guys it says they want to do a complete overhaul.. that means change it all around... ughhh bad idea!!
21Its purfect the way that it is!!!
Anyone agree??
My opinion ... for what its worth ... Bewitched was not a flop because of Nicole ... she, and Shirley MacLaine were wonderful! As for playing Marilyn Monroe ... she'd be perfect ... why not ... she has a real connection to marilyn ... her career keeps bumping into Marilyn ... Moulin Rouge and that Bus Stop Costume, HappyFeet as Norma Jeane, her Marilyn-ish voice in Bewitched, she's also a Gemini, as was Marilyn ... doesn't it make you wonder? And what about those "emotional problems" rumors that circle her? Yes, I believe in reincarnation ... how about you, Nicole? Or should I say ... Norma Jeane?
22P.S. Yes, I'm a huge Marilyn fan ... and I believe Nicole is the real thing ... even if she doesn't believe it herself. As far as I am concerned, Marilyn was up there on that glorious stage accepting that well deserved Oscar! Did anyone really believe she would come back in the same body ... no way ... but she'd have to return with the same femininity and the same stars in her eyes. I, for one, am glad she's back ... and right on top!
23I think Nicole has the acting chops, but not the bod!
