There's so much great TV on tonight (including the premieres of Pushing Daisies and Private Practice), and yet the one show I'm really pining for is the one that will be hardest to watch. Friday Night Lights returns tonight for its third season — if, that is, you have DirecTV.
I'm trying not to be too bitter; after all, DirecTV is basically the reason we're getting a third season at all. Under a unique deal, NBC and DirecTV are sharing the costs of producing this 13-episode season, with DirecTV getting the rights to air the episodes first on its 101 Network. NBC plans to air the episodes as well, tentatively in February, but they'll be slightly edited from the extended versions airing commercial-free on DirecTV.
Back at TCA, I got some hints about what's coming up, and I'm heartened to hear from some critics who have already seen the premiere episode that the show seems to have returned to its roots after a second season that occasionally went off-course. It's a shame so many of us will have to wait to see it, but the fact that it's coming back at all is enough to make me smile.
After the jump, you can watch two promos for this season: a spooky, moody number set to "Devil Town" (shades of the season one finale), and another with one of Coach Taylor's best speeches (I dare you not to get chills). Will you be watching on DirecTV? Holding out for NBC? Scouring the web for, um, other ways to watch? Check out the videos and let me know when you read more.

I will definitely be scouring the net for other methods to view this!!!
I was a late bloomer to Friday Night Lights...but what an awesome show!!! I can only hope that it lives beyond this 3rd season!!!
1Damn! I wish I had DirecTV. Now I have to wait months for it to come on NBC???
2I have to keep repeating to myself that I should feel lucky to be able to watch at all, even if I do have to wait until February. But it's hard to stay positive when I know that others will get to see Tim Riggins months before me
3I love this show! I can't believe we have to wait to see it and even then it's not a guarantee! If it gets cancelled, they'd better put it on dvd for the rest of us!
4nbc seems to have cut this deal with a few shows - since they aren't on regular cable but they are on DirectTV - it's reminding me of the one for Passions - which i guess is something that some folks would want to watch.
i wish that i had DirectTV to see it but i guess i'll have to either catch it online or wait until the season is available on DVD
5No fair...I just hope it really does maket it to regular NBC in Feb. There is no way I am getting DirectTV!
6I got DirecTV just for this.
Extreme? Maybe, but I love the show, and I've wanted a
dvr for awhile anyway. The dvd-r just isn't quite the same.
7I wonder if iTunes will get it at all. They should let them just for more exposure?? I will have to wait until February. We want DirecTV, but we were told we couldn't get local channels with a package although we can't pick up any channels with a simple antenna on our tv. Any ideas on this?
8omg i'm so bitter! i wish there was a way i could see it!!
9I've never seen it. I love football but I hate teenage drama so maybe I'll take a glance.
10I tried talking my husband into Directv, but he said we will wait until we get our new TV, this winter. He could not understand why i wanted it so badly now. Hopefully the DVD will have the extended editions, and not the cut ones on NBC.
Please if anyone finds a way to watch this on web, let me know.

I am SO watching this tonight! I've been waiting so long. I switched to DirecTV a couple months ago not even knowing this wonderful perk I would be getting. eeek!
12I am sooooooooo happy I have DirecTv! I can't wait to watch my show again!
:)
13Coach did the DirecTV people tell you that? I know that happened years ago before satelite tv became more of an option, but I don't know of it being an issue nowadays.
That being said, I'm THRILLED that I get to watch tonight!

I have to wait until Febuary...
15i convinced my dad to switch our cable to directv a month ago. i would do ANYTHING to watch fnl again (almost anything). i told him it could be one of my christmas presents. now he LOVES directv and swears off cable forever ... but his new found love for directv sent me to the non-hd set in my bedroom to watch. he was watching the baseball games -- in hd of course. the show was great and it had NO commercials. i hear that therre will be no commercials all 13 episodes. my fam llikes directv better than the old cable we had and we get all our local channels so it's cool with my parents. my friends came over last night to watch with me.
16I was so sad to find out it wasn't on regular cable til feb.
But I found a way to watch it online!!!!!
go to www.sidereel.com and search friday night lights.
