Every other Wednesday on BuzzSugar, I post a Recast challenge, where I ask you to choose new actors for a classic TV show or movie. The reader who submits the best cast wins a BuzzSugar T-shirt!
You guys chipped in a lot of different ideas for this one, even though it's hard to imagine any other actors in this cast. I think the hardest role — and the most important, of course — is Forrest. It takes a special kind of actor to pull off this role in a charming and relatable way. I absolutely love jasmint's idea of Lee Pace, and I thought bigestivediscuit's Adam Sandler idea showed some good thinking.
Jenny's a tough one to replace, too, since the actress has to be believable as a teenager through to adulthood. Several of you suggested Sienna Miller which definitely captures the free-spirited side of the character. I also think Whip is right on the money with Reese Witherspoon, especially since we know she can nail that accent.
As for the other characters: khowell's idea of Matthew Fox to play Lt. Dan is cool, I agree with littlesnipsnap that a younger Forest Whitaker would make a great Bubba, and can't argue with paperdoll's suggestion for Forrest's mom, Susan Sarandon.
For the winner, I chose a recast list with good suggestions throughout — especially for Forrest and Lt. Dan. Congrats to alethe16!

8I could see Ryan as Forest. I also really like the suggestion of Sienna Miller as Jenny and Susan Sarandon as the mother. Blake Lively could be a good Jenny too. If going with a brunette for Jenny I could imagine Rachel Bilson in the roll before Anne Hathaway.
9Robert Downey Jr. and Kyra Sedgwick are the best choices. Ryan Gosling might look the part, but I don't think he could carry it.
10I think most of the choices are good, but I don't think Anne Hathaway would be good in this role.
11I think Gosling would rock the role. He's already proven he has range.
12finally! I know all these people. In most recast challenges, I maybe know one or two of the actors/actresses....
13As much as I hate to admit this but I thknk Sienna Miller would make a good Jenny
14Awesome!! I think after you see Anne in Rachel's Wedding, you'll see that she really has the range to pull off a part like Jenny.
15I dont think Anne could pull off Jennys character, shes too much of a sweetheart to me.

17I'm not convinced Ryan Gosling or Anne Hathaway could play these parts, they're way too 'nice' for this :/ I like Robert Downey Jr as Lt.Dan though, he'd be great. I think of all the recast entries i liked kittyhill's one better. But this movie should never be redone, it's already perfect as it is..

18Anne Hathaway has been trying to do less sweetheart roles lately (ie Rachel Getting Married), so she could handle this role.

19i think these are good picks - ryan gosling didn't even cross my mind. i was thinking of movies like spanglish and punch drunk love when i chose adam sandler.
