The hour-long season premiere of The Office found all of our old Dunder-Mifflin favorites taking part in corporate's weight loss challenge. Which ever Dunder-Mifflin branch loses the most weight over the Summer, receives additional vacation days. Pam moves to New York to start her new school program, and Andy tries to plan a wedding while Angela is leading a secret little life. Meanwhile, Stanley celebrates a birthday and works toward a goal of his own.

I thought the episode was a great kickstart to the new season. And did anyone else notice Mad Men's Harry Crane (actor Rich Sommer) in this episode?!
There's much to discuss (especially some Pam and Jim stuff!), so as long as you're not afraid of spoilers, you can see some of my favorite moments and quotes if you read more.
- I don't bandy this term about too much but it's so deserved today in regard to Pam and Jim: squeeee! They're engaged! It happened! At a truck stop in the rain! Yay!
- "I'm excited to lose weight for the wedding because I really want to have washboard abs the first time Angela sees me naked," and later, "Every little boy fantasizes about his fairy tale wedding." Poor Andy! My heart went out to the guy during this episode.
- Dwight: "One more bite of éclair each! Hold it in your mouth if you can’t swallow." Jim grins, but Michael doesn't say his favorite line.
- Jim: "Most of the time, friends don’t talk about other friends’ butts."
- Dwight hammering fruit into the vending machine = amazing. The flies later appearing in the vending machine, also amazing.
- Andy: "Ange …ella. Ella ella ella. Under my Angerella, eh eh eh."
- After one of their secret meetings, Dwight calls Angela "half-pint" and "monkey" again. Angela says it’s the last time. "I have a fiancé I very much like!" Later, she says to camera, "I have a nice comforter, and several cozy pillows. I usually read a chapter of a book and it’s lights out by 8:30. That's how I sleep at night."
- Jim: "I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Michael is actually killing it with Holly. And I think I know why. It’s because Holly is kind of a major dork."
- Kelly's cleanse diet bit makes me laugh and yet, so sad at the same time! "I just bought some bikinis online, size 2. So. Gonna look amazing."
- The Kevin-is-mentally-challenged game is so wrong but feels so right. Holly announces to the office that Kevin is mentally-challenged. Kevin: "Wait, back up. Do you think I’m retarded?"
- I love some of Angela's clothes in this episode! Like this sweater and this top:
- Phyllis has used the fact that she saw Dwight and Angela together to leverage herself into the position of head of the party planning committee. "I guess I was just in the right place at the right time." I love happy Phyllis!
- Michael says that if they don’t lose weight they will all die of "obestity."
- Michael also says that if Angela gains weight she will die: "I want you to live forever, I want us all to live forever. How are we going to do this?"
Jim: "Cryogenics. Beer me five." He raises hand for Dwight to slap. - Dwight kicks Stanley’s cake! "Happy birthday, Stanley."
- Kelly says she swallowed a tapeworm ("from Mexico," that Creed sold her) so that she would lose more weight.
Creed: "That wasn't a tapeworm." - Michael's goatee looks disgusting. Just have to say that.
- Ryan (hired as the temporary receptionist!) tries to explain the past few years of treating Kelly like crap: "I was in my mid-twenties, and I was going through a lot of stuff. I think I never processed 9/11. I want you to know I’ve changed." Yay for Kelly acting all cool! "I'm dating Darryl now, and we’re like, crazy in love."
- Dwight leaves Phyllis in an abandoned warehouse in a bad part of town so she would have to walk back and work off calories. Enraged, she calls David Wallace on him!
- Michael wears his sumo suit (remember "Beach Games"?), which he is so glad he bought instead of rented, to do his "making fun of fat people character," Michael Clump. Michael says Michael Clump is a celebration of fat people.
- Pam is making a friend and it’s Harry Crane from Mad Men!
- Michael, as he makes Kelly stand on a chair: "She’s a beautiful Indian woman. Why? What makes her beautiful?"
Ryan stands, dramatically declaring, "Everything. She’s perfect."
Meredith: "I like her nails."
Michael: "OK, be more specific."
Meredith: "I like her finger nails."
Creed: "Hell of an ass." - Angela wants them to dance to her favorite song for the first dance: "Little Drummer Boy." (I love that that's her favorite song! It's so perfect.) Andy: "I always thought it was bigger than Christmas anyway!"
- But when Andy says he wants his acapella group to sing at the wedding, Angela refuses, and it turns out this detail is Andy’s deal breaker. He lists off the guys in his group: Carl One, Carl Two, Broccoli Rob, Spare Rib, Doobie, Lunchbox, Boner Champ (that’s Andy), Pubie Lewis and the News, Hopscotch, Jingle-Jangle, Sandwich.
- Stanley fights the power at the end. "I'm gonna take off five days anyway."
- OMG, Toby! In the hospital after a zip-line accident, watching Entourage in Spanish! Such a good ending.

What did you think, Office fans? Are you glad they had Jim propose in the first episode of the season? Do you find the Michael-Holly flirtation insanely adorable, like I do?

soooo excited about Jim & Pam. I squealed. The rest of the episode was good, lots of LOL moments, Michael was ALMOST normal (though I yelped when he tore up the CC tickets) LOVED Ryan coming back as the temp receptionist. But so so so excited about Jam.
1This was SUCH a great episode. I loved that we couldn't see the proposal coming at ALL--in fact, I thought there was going to be some drama with her new friend at school! Definitely lived up to my expectations, which had been steadily rising since last season's finale. I also loved the goatee wars, & Angela's "THAT's how I sleep at night." But poor Michael completely blew it with the Counting Crows tickets!!!
2I loved that within the first five minutes there was a "thats what she said" and Jim just looked at Michael and said "Really?"
The part when Ryan says "I never processed 9/11" almost made me fall out of my chair because that was so.... perfect.
I know this is corny, but I loved seeing Jim just lounging around at the college watching TV, it was nice.
I must say, Michael was quite normal in this episode, except for the Michael Klump and Counting Crows ticket part, but other then that, he was geniunely a nice guy.
And of course..... Jim proposing to Pam just like that!/!?!
I was so effing happing I
rewinded it to see it again:)
If the first episode was full of surprises, I cant wait until the rest of the season!!!
3Also, I love that at the party Dwight sprays all the good food with bug spray to prevent anyone from eating after:)
4We had a house full of people watching and we all yelped when the proposal came. Does anyone else think there's still something coming between Pam & the Rich Sommer character? I just had the feeling they are chummy & maybe heading for more than a friendship. Hope not but it felt like a hint of things to come.
5LOOOOOVED this episode! It was a great way to kick off the new season. I sat there with a HUGE smile on my face when Jim got on one knee and the boyfriend turned to me and said "ahhh, tears in the eyes already!" Haha.
Also loved the "that's how I sleep at night." And especially loved Toby at the end! Was NOT expecting that!
6i think this episode is a sign of good things to come for the season. i was totally not expecting the proposal. and i have to say that i love Andy, every scene he is in kills me,and i feel so bad for him about the whole thing with Angela
7What happened to Meredith's face?!
8foxie, no kidding! Why didn't anyone talk about why her face was so orange/irritated?!?!
9I have a theory that Angela is pregnant. She made one comment, "My doctor wants me to gain weight" at one point in the show. That's my crackpot theory for this season as to how they'll call the wedding off. She is a great character, though, as mean as she is.
Kelly's comments were hilarious, but so true! From the "Beyonce" cleanse diet to buying clothes several sizes too small, she was a fantastic, and sad, parody of women's culture of dieting and body imagery.
You know, I thought I'd be more focused and thrilled on the proposal, but there was so much else good going on here!
10loved the Jim/Pam proposal. I had no idea it was coming!
11Deanna- my husband thought the same thing when the group weight kept staying the same/increasing. Ut oh!
12Also- I'm confused about Holly's role. She's being made out to be Michael's soulmate, but she's not even in the permanent cast lineup in the show's opening, so isn't that kind of a spoiler? What's her exit going to be?
13I guess we have to wait until the season comes out on DVD to find out what happened to Meredith's face. I have found that a lot of Meredith's story line gets cut in editing, and is on the deleted scenes.
I thought it was hilarious when Pam had to get off the scale and Darryl announced the new weight calculation with her off, and you could see everyone doing the math in their head.
Also, Andy listing the members of his accapella group "boner champ, thats me"
14I think Holly will be around because she is the fem version of Michael. Just like how Jan isnt included in the credits, but is still a huge part of the show.
15I lovvvveed the proposal.. i couldnt stop grinning.
Micheal was acting like a sane person, and i kinda liked it. It seems as if he matured A LOT. or maybe he was just trying to impress Holly. either way, im glad he calmed down a bit.
Ryan and Jim should just fight. I lovvvvved Jim's sarcastic comments about court ordered community service.
Yayyy Stanley for trying to loose weight.
There was actually a glimpse of humanity in Angela last night. She actually felt bad and wanted to continue with the wedding, but then changed her mind because of an accapella group??? whoa
I want Dwight to get a GF and make Angela jealous.
And since there are no ER rewviews on this site, let me just say, i am sad that Mekhi Pfifer's character died last night. It was sooo sad and dramatic. He was my fav character.
16So many great lines in this episode, I can't list them all. "Beer me five" was one of the best.
I liked Michael's goatee! I guess I was the only one that thought it made him look pretty hot.
I'm happy with how they handled the Ryan situation. Being back at Scranton is the ultimate punishment.
Kelly was amazing in this episode.
Holly and Michael are complete soulmates.
The proposal was one of the best proposals I've ever seen. So simple and romantic!!
Dwight's leaving Phyllis to walk back 5 miles and kicking Stanley's cake were classic moments.
17damn! how did i miss the engagement!
18SUCH a good episode. Yay for Pam and Jim
. Seriously one of the best episodes in a
while. I was laughing out loud quite a few times. Esp when Pam was on the computer screen being passed around and then being interviewed. "Can you take me back to Jim now?" Too cute! If they
do anything to ruin Pam/Jim I will be so very angry.
19Deanna...I have the same theory!!! The set it up with the whole Andy saying, "I want to have washboard abs the first time Angela sees me naked." Indicating that she's only been getting nookie from Dwight and the baby's his!
20I loved all of Kelly's scenes. Angela is just so mean to Andy, but he is rediculous and kinda diserves it... kinda. Jim and Pam= yay! but I know not to get my hopes up as they probably are going to have plenty of drama coming up. If they break up again though, its never going to work.
21Oh man the weight machine calculations after Pam got off were so funny. And Dwight dropping Phylis off to walk -I totally did NOT see that coming. I laughed so hard- love this show.
22'I thought it was hilarious when Pam had to get off the scale and Darryl announced the new weight calculation with her off, and you could see everyone doing the math in their head.' I completely agree Katidid!
Angela's lines about sleeping at night and Rich Somers coming out of nowhere and being surrogate Jim. Awesome! But I hope it doesn't go any further.
Kelly making out with Daryl on the couch and looking at Ryan was classic Kelly Kapoor. Also, insulting the receptionist to her face about not being able to find the post its he likes was hi-larious. Stanley is a bad ass and I love it, and has Oscar lost weight? So much was going on but I did not expect Jim to propose. I thought they were going to fight.
Also - side note: Did anyone see the Emmys b/c Rich Somers looks so hot when they arent combing his hair all funny. He was sitting with his cast mates and my heart did a little flip, had to pause the dvr.
23Amazing episode. And I felt that way before Jim proposed, that just took it off the charts for me!
24Such a good episode!
The sweater that Angela wears in that 2nd photo looks like something Leanne on Project Runway would make.
25loved the episode! we need more darryl!! kelly was really funny. the proposal was sweet.
26I looooved the surprise proposal, like everyone else. It was incredibly romantic, in the rain and at a rest area and all. It was just so out of the blue, it was wonderful.
There were so many fantastic moments in this episode. It was a brilliant start to the season.
27"Beer me five" totally had me giggling.
28LOVED IT, everything about it. The rap was so funny
But I'm a bit confused about Ryan. Like what happened to his problems and is he normal again
29I'm so excited this show is back on...it's been a long summer.
301. Yay Jim proposed...it was so perfect too...no fireworks or theme parks
2. however i feel like something is def going to happen, she was flirting with your mad men guy....something else out there for Pam???
3. Jim telling Ryan that his community service was court appointed....too brillz
4. Love michael's and holly's rap so funny
There were a million other things but those were my favs...glad the office is back!!!!!
What happened to Meredith's face?
31See, that's what I love about the show...they throw stuff in there like Meredith's face and don't need to explain it because it's just plain funny. My guess is she did a chemical peel, but they just didn't say anything about it. Details, hilarious!
32Many TV engagements are lame. This one was sweet.
33ok, i know ryan is an ass pretty much all of the time, but i love LOVE love him with kelly... i don't know why. they have their little sweet moments and i guess i just really want to believe that he could actually care about her
but of course, that doesn't top jim and pam's engagement!!!! omg soooooo sweet. they are seriously the most adorable couple and i loved the way he proposed too. nothing cheesy... just real. and they're so in love. yayyy
this episode was great. so funny and so many amazing quotes
34This episode was amazing. Could not have changed anything to make it better. I do love when they made Pam step off the scale and everyone did the math.
35spaghetti
36re: Meredith's face....
37could it be because of the bugspray that Dwight sprayed on the food at the party? She was standing closest to him.
i love the office. love it. such a good first show! can't wait for more
38Looooooved it! Great first episode!
39And that is why I love The Office
TOTALLY brill
Jim: "hey, did you get a look at some of Pam's new art? Yeah right out there....." and slams the door shut
Kevin: "Wait, back up. Do you think I'm RETARDED??"
Holly: "I'm a lesbian" and after uncomfortable exchange w/ Oscar says "my luck's been so bad lately maybe I should switch to women!"
Jim on IM: "where that soda exploded on me. Exit 17 I think" -- totally how you would chat w/ your GF/BF
last, Jim: "I can't wait."
and that kiss ..... WOW!
love the JAM!!
40I actually cried during Jim and Pam's proposal.
angelfromlsu = lame!
41did anyone else catch jim and pam's screen names on im, pams was receptionist(numbers) what was jims, i thought that was so cute and paid a lot of attention to detail
42My BF was saying Philys' face was still messed up from when the bat attacked her in last season- but I thought that was a while ago? Otherwise, it seems odd that no one said anything about it.
Dwight and Angela are really made for each other. the whole 'objections to the wedding' plot is brilliant. It was great that the acapella group was what finally was the deal-breaker!
I loved the engagement- Pam was at the wrong place, lol, and he comes to meet her. "I had to drive a lot farther!"
Michael tearing up the tickets!! Just when you think he will ask Holly to go with him- and she totally thought that too!!
43Oh wow- I totally meant Meridith's face- not Philys!
44Love, love, love this show. Love that Pam and Jim got engaged. Love that I laughed my butt off. If this ever goes off the air I will cry, cry, cry. Its absolutely incredible.
45My three fav. moments:
Jim: "hey, did you get a look at some of Pam's new art? Yeah right out there....." *and slams the door shut*
Kelly: "Bought some new bikini's online, size 2 so, yeah gonna look great"
THE PROPOSAL! omg I teared up, it was the sweetest thing ever.
46thanks #40, i couldn't catch what jim said (the "i can't wait" part).
#42, jim's screen name is JIM9334.
and pam's is "receptionitis15"
like everyone i loved the proposal. yay for pb&j!
