OK, why is Gossip Girl so hilarious right now? I can't take any of it seriously, but I'm really loving how ridiculous this season is. I think I had at least three "spit out my water in laughter" moments on Monday — you?
While I, a grown adult woman, am having fun watching, GG's not doing much to quiet those "totally inappropriate for teenagers" complaints and in fact poured about a gallon of fuel on that fire last night. Nearly every plot point pivoted around sex: who's having it, who's not, who wants to have it but can't, who's getting paid to have it, who only has it to avoid talking about "issues," etc.

This episode starts out hot (literally), then gets dark (also literally, see Chuck lurking by candlelight above), at which point things really heat up (figuratively). Here are some of my thoughts from last night:
- Does anyone else find the constant references to Dan and Serena's "issues" kind of funny? It totally reminds me of high school and the need to psychoanalyze relationships with vague, adult-ish terms.
- How'd you like those three little Dan/Serena stalker girls in the park? I thought they were hilarious and slightly creepy but ultimately a welcome respite from Dan and Serena's PDA/"issues"-speak.
To see the rest of my thoughts on Chuck, Blair, the Lord, and Nate the gigolo, read more.
- So yeah, Nate's a gigolo! Or sex slave . . . or something. His body's being held hostage by an evil "aging beauty enjoying her last hurrah before the surgeries start," as Blair puts it.
- And Nate's a moron for telling the Duchess where his dad is. Think, Nate, think!
- Back to Serena and Dan for a moment: I'm just not sure why he gets so mad that his girlfriend comes with perks that make life a teensy bit better. I know: He has overriding philosophical objections to the uber-wealthy and their ability to get away with stuff the rest of us can't — but I think he needs to choose his battles. Getting righteous over a shortcut out of that elevator is pretty annoying.
- Chuck can't have sex with random girls. Ha! Is that karma talking? How'd you like his cigar jacket, by the way?
- I loved that when Dan asks Serena how her day went, her answer is, "Chuck had a Japanese stewardess over today."
- Nastiest line of the night goes to Serena, who warns Chuck, "You are not using Blair as sexual Drano." I needed a hug after that.
- Blair also does some scheming around Nate, dragging poor Vanessa into it. "You think I'm just going to sit back and watch you have an affair on my boyfriend's mother? Guess again!" Oh the tangled, icky webs these kids weave.
- A really funny moment after the lights go out: Vanessa asks Blair if she's seen Nate, and Blair replies, "Um, no. It's a blackout."
- I nearly died of laughter when Chuck appears in the dark bedroom where Blair is waiting for her Lord and speaks in an accent. That is exactly why I watch this show.
- I liked the story around Eleanor Waldorf and Jenny bonding, especially when they send Rufus and his new girlfriend (?) to fetch sandwiches.
Ding-dong, the Serena/Dan relationship is dead! Are you as happy as I am? I'm all for love, but . . . they're boring. Are you rooting for Nate and Vanessa? What about Blair and the Lord?

Oh wow, so many moments last night:
- Chuck's smoking jacket = hilarious. Way to emulate Mr. Hefner.
1- I'm with you on the "sexual drano" thing. Thanks for that mental image, Serena.
- Yay for Dan and Serena being really over!!!!!! They're so freakin' boring when they're all gooey and happy all the time. I want to see Serena dance on some tables.
- I just love Blair and Chuck so darn much. More of both of them, please.
This episode was actually kind of boring / predictable to me. I am totally rooting for Vanessa and Nate, but let's be honest here, Vanessa knows better than to get involved with Nate's mess at this point, so sadly I think that plot is over.
2Is anyone annoyed that they didn't show Blair and the Lord after that whole "I want you, do you want me" thing?? Plus what's up with not showing her at all in the preview?!? I'm hoping this means we'll have more surprises next week!
I don't understand why you find this show so hilarious all of the time. It's gotten so much better since it started. I know it has it's funny moments, when it's supposed to. I look forward to your reviews then they let me down.
3I agree, Nate is a fool!why would he tell "lady botox" where his dad is hiding....i pity him sometimes.
omg I can not stand lord whats his faces fake little "english accent" I usually love accents but this guy sounds like it pains him to speak so he has to wisper and mummble.. all this time.
4I totally think Lord mummble is gay.....Blair came onto him 2 times and he says no both times?? Shes totally his beard. Poor blair.... the whole first half of 1st season is all about nate not wanting to do it with her...and now lord mummble here dont want to...sad
This episode WAS hilarious! Thank God Serena and Dan are over! They're so freaking boring! I'm ready to see Dan with someone else!
5Oh and yea...sexual Drano comment was way funny..and gross lol.
I'm actually loving this whole Lord thing...mostly because I'm a sucker for that accent but also because he's a fun new addition to the regulars. But yea Blair totally needs to make up her mind!
Also loved the tween stalkers in the park! I'm on Dan's side!
TOTALLY loved the tween girls in the park. And the one blonde girl who was on team Serena who looked like a mini-Serena. Sadface for Serena and Dan being over even though they were kind of boring.
I JUST WANT BLAIR AND CHUCK!
6I also finda the tweens very creepy.....the "serena girl" totally dressed like serena in one of the epi last season....creepy
7i'm with you buzz - this show is hysterical. its just so hard to remember that these kids are supposed to be in high school. thats why i was so grateful for the dan/serena thing this episode - it actually felt like high school!
i have to admit though... at least the show is a little (only a little though) more realistic than the books! anyone remember lord marcus from the books?!? geez.
8I may be the only one that doesn't want Blair and Chuck together... but anyways, this episode was just alright, I'm not a big fan of Vanessa and Nate either. The tween girls were soooo weird and just downright creepy.
9Mariellynelly, I hate Chuck, and I hate Chuck and Blair.
I found Blair's issues around not having enough sex HILARIOUS. She's, what, seventeen years old? Her problems are sooooo dramatic and serious! You would think her and Lord Whatever had been an old married couple for years.
10Did anyone else notice Ann from ANTM Cycle Three?
11it's one of those things that's kind of like a train wreck. once you're at a certain age, you know that you shouldm't be watching GG but you can't help it. that's kind of how i am right now. it's really funny since it all seems so far fetched...and well - i guess i watch it for the humor
i don't know about anyone else - but i had such high hopes for this season and it's all so predictable that i'm not enjoying as much as i could.
12"Did anyone else notice Ann from ANTM Cycle Three?"! Yesss!!!!!! I knew that was her!
13I am really liking season two. It´s hilarious with its many one-liners, and I also like the plots.
I think it is good Serena and Dan aren´t together for a while, but I still think they should end up together in the very end.
BTW I think Jenny is much less ignoring now that she is not trying to be a Blair.
14Some thoughts:
Stalker girls were beyond creepy! Reminded me Jenny Briar&her friends in one Sex and the City episode.
I enjoyed Jenny's storyline.
I'm starting to like Vanessa! She is nice when she is not so judgemental and I like Nate when he's with her.
I think Lord Marcus has some problems with performing...
Gossip Girl alreadyused gay boyfriend storyline with Asher (Jenny's fake boyfriend)
Who will rescue Nate?
Chuck&Blair - stop fooling yourselves and everyone else - you clearly belong together!
15And I didn't care for Dan and Serena at all. They can't be together as Dan clearly is NOT the-most-understanding person-in-the-world but quite judgemental one and Serena is always sorry for who she is around Dan.
16Haha I agree Buzz, the show can be so bad it's good!
:D
I thought the episode was good in that it didn't have too many slow moments (well, minus the Dan-Serena ones, but I always find them slow). SO NOT realistic in that the writers are not even bothering to pretend the kids are still at school.
I was glad it focused a bit more on Chuck and Blair; after the way season 1 ended I would have been very annoyed if they'd just left it there.
Is it me or is the Lord getting really annoying? At the beginning I felt sorry for him, but now he's so ... nice? Normal?
I'm getting really grossed out by the 'Nate is a gigolo' thing. Really Dan, with all your super rich friends, you didn't have the choice but keep sleeping with the older lady?
Oh, and glad to see Jenny's back, and her character's cute and sweet!
17I totally agree about the 'Sexual Drain-o' comment. Yuck! I don't really find Ed Westwick that attractive so it was even grosser. Am I the only one who likes Lord Marcus? I think he's really sexy and sweet!
18This show really has been hysterical lately! Honestly, I loved the creepy stalker girls in the park, if only because it shows the influence of Gossip Girl. I thought that was awesome!
Dan and Serena are so cute, but you're right, Buzz, Dan cannot choose his battles. I guess I'm glad they're over for now.
I loved Jenny's storyline last night, it was sweet. Bummed that Rufus has a new girlfriend...where is Lily this season?? I'm hoping that now that Dan and Serena have fizzled we'll get some Rufus and Lily action.
19I love that Ed got a chance to use his real accent while fooling Blair.
I'm kinda happy that Dan and Serena broke-up. They were so boring and every episode with them revolved around their problems.
20I also have to add that I don't get what the problem was with Dan and Serena! Dan's being stupid and hating Serena for being who she is, she can't help what her name is and that everyone knows it. He's been in love with her for years, he should know this!
21I thought the getting stuck in the elevator scene was so annoyingly predictable. Anyhow, I'm just glad they finally broke up. Haha. So mean, I know, it's just that I'm not a fan of the S and Dan coupledom.
22When Chuck did the English accent in Blair's room, I was like, "That's how it's supposed to be!" and "Ooooh so sexy." Lol. Can Chuck just speak using Ed's natural accent? Pretty please?
Nate became a prostitute (oh my) and Little J knows more stuff, style-wise, than Eleonor Waldorf. Really now.. what's next?
I have to say though that I'm liking Jenny's character now and as usual, Blair looked fab. And Rufus was actually hot. Goodness. I have to stop.
Ok, so am i the only one who thinks that Chuck looked extremely tasty last night???? I dont know what it was.. but he definately looked good.
Vanessa is sweet and i love how Nate is trully "in like" with her. The dutchess threatining to tell the Feds was sooooo predictable.. speaking of predictability, who didnt know the elevator was going to get stuck leaving Dan and Serena to confront thier problems?
Dan and Serena being over is good.. they need to rethink some things anyway.
Chuck is in love with Blair.. seen that coming too.
Overall, I'm glad that Jenny is prosperous in her dreams of being a fashion designer..
The show was eh.. One Tree Hill has been the better of the two shows since they both premiered three weeks ago.
23What character was Ann from ANTM? Did I miss her on this episode? Who did she play?
24She was the girl Chuck was making out with in the beginning and in the limo at the end.
25This epsiode was pretty funny, I mean can they make Chuck any more "icky."...When he said blow out your candle in that British accent was hillarious. This show is so unrealistic I think that's why I enjoy it so much.
26The mini Blairs & Serena were hilarious! I am sure Penn gets stalked by 12 yr old gossip girls all the time in real life. Although I wouldn't mind meeting him in real life either
I watch Gossip Girl for the clothes & the characters, not the realistic plot lines. It's fun to watch a deliciously delicious show, plus Chuck in the Hugh Hefner robe - that was hilarious!
Also Nate & Vanessa are sweet together - it helps me tolerate Vanessa.
Was anyone else loving Blair's jeweled headband at the party? It made the dress!
27First of all, let me say how grateful I am to you Buzz for doing these recaps! I am a HUGE GG fan, but none of my friends watch it! I am trying to get them to, but they all deny me. So this is so nice to have a little community that share my love of GG!
I have been loving this new season! Some things have been a little predictable, but for the most part, I am blown away.
I am so glad D and S are finally over. They were really getting on my nerves, but I was sad when she got off the elevator. I can't wait for next week when they become mean to each other! >:)
I LOVE Chuck. I love everything about Chuck. Did anyone else get mad at B when she told "the lord" (ha!) that she knew it was Chuck but was still kissing him?! I too was upset that they didn't show B and M again after that scene. I wanted to see if he really took her back.
The Jenny storyline was a little predictable, but I am glad she is being herself. She was SO annoying last season. I loved those little tweens in the park! I doubled over I was laughing so hard!
N is dumb, but I don't think V is completely over him. They will go on again soon.
Bring back Lilly! Rufus and Lilly!
28The tweens were my biggest "What the hell...?!?!" moment of the night.
I also loved the whole, "What name does he call you when you make love? (HAVE SEX WITH ME!)"
So sketch.
And I loved how, when the Lord barged in on B and Chuck, she didn't look freaked out as I was excpecting... as if, "If you're HERE, then who...?"
29Love the recaps, Buzz. Even though I don't watch GG on a regular basis, I can count on enjoying your reviews and smiling as I read.
30Ohhh ok, I didn't recognize her without the lighter short hair.
31okay, did anyone think the blonde tween's head was seriously weird looking???
and i loved it when chuck said "blow out the candle" or whatever he said b/c that's his REAL accent!
and i'm glad i'm not the only one who noticed ann from antm! i was beginning get scared that i was freakishly obsessed with antm or something..
32I forgot all about Jenny. Her storylines are just pointless to me. I hardly pay attention when she's on the screen.
33A really funny moment after the lights go out: Vanessa asks Blair if she's seen Nate, and Blair replies, "Um, no. It's a blackout."
hahaah i loved that part too, but actually it was catherine who asked if she'd seen nate.
and also, i thought the tween girls were slightly ridiculous. at first i thought it was going to be like a dream sequence-type deal, which would be lame, but it wasn't...which is just as lame.
i agree that this was a really predictable episode, but with all the pretty on the screen, i can't say i really mind
34I can't believe Nate is a gigolo. That wh*re. Catherine is a manipulative little cougar. I mean she's having an affair with Nate, while she's married, and Nate isn't allowed to have someone on the side. I felt so bad for Vanessa and usually I don't enjoy her character, but she just wanted to cry so bad, it was awful. I know she did what she thought was best cause she didn't want to betray Nate, but she should have at least told him. Uhh! Again I hate Catherine, " he makes me feel alive." Well find someone else, thats so messed up. And Dan & Serena frustrated me. I was so annoyed of them talking about how they haven't talked about their reasons for breaking up. Coming from two different worlds really doesn't hurt a relationship that much, they should get over it. I mean I thought it was a little sad because they still love each other, but they created the problems themselves. By the way those little girls were hilarious. I really wanted their headbands.
35For the main reason I watch the show now. Oh I've been expressing for a while now, that I've never been more excited for two people to have sex, than for Chuck and Blair. And they didn't even have sex. Ughh! They could have at least broken her and Marcus up, but noo! I'm going to try keeping my hopes up because I want them to be together so much. I really loved it when Catherine asked Blair if she'd seen Nate and she responded with, "No, but if you find him, my bedroom floor is off limits." Hilarious! Also its pretty funny that Chuck can't have sex with anyone, which is great because I want him to wait until Blair comes to her senses, which better not take long. That scene where he's making out with that girl in the limo was going to piss me off if it ended how I thought it would but it didn't. When he stopped her she said, "What? I thought you were better now." To which he responded, "I am. But not for you." I got so happy like literally, I almost jumped up and down!
I thought last night's episode was great, and hilarious! But this line creeped me out too, Buzz..."You are not using Blair as sexual Drano." Gross.
Dan & Serena are very immature. I'm sick of hearing about their "issues"...I've even forgot what they are. Dan kissing Georgina? BFD.
36Oh yeah, I also saw Ann from ANTM too! I forgot her name though until I saw this post. I didn't like her that much...
37This episode was so weird!
You would think Blair would act smarter since she's trying to get into Yale.
Dan and Serena, they should get over it, they have such a weird "relationship" of not telling the truth or else not talkign to each other at all. And those tweenies who came up to talk to Dan, awkward! But cute in a way, its almost like GG is a celebrity site rather than an Upper East Side gossip site.
38"This epsiode was pretty funny, I mean can they make Chuck any more "icky."...When he said blow out your candle in that British accent was hillarious. This show is so unrealistic I think that's why I enjoy it so much."
That's his real accent.
I also wanted to see more of B&M and what went down there. They keep us wanting more.
39Loved this ep!
This show is such a guilty pleasure, it's crazy.
What's strange is I had just got done watching the movie Dream Lover...with the actress who plays the dutchess...so based on that, there's a creepiness to her that I couldn't get out of my mind.
The tweens were cute, I loved how Serena was like "Now shooo", or something, which I thought was pretty mean considering, yet hilarious at the same time.
I heart Blair's facial expressions, she's such a Queen B.
40blair and chuck need to get together. it was hot when they hooked up
41I kind of hate myself for watching this show haha , but I just can't stop.... the episode was kind of creepy though.
42I love that this show is so popular with my friends (I'm 28). Maybe it's the NYC backdrop or something. That episode was great...and so scarily real in the way elite high schoolers are! I went to a private high school and there definitely was money, sex and lies there! The only thing I was disappointed at because of it's cliche/obviousness was the Chuck/Blair moment in the dark when her back is turned. That's done all the time! Not original, but hey at least they got their groove on.
43I love Blair and Chuck! Team Blair all the way.
I totally noticed Ann for ANTM!
44That was a great episode.
I'm so over the Serena/Dan relationship. Either get back together or don't, I really couldn't care less
I feel bad for Nate, the cougar has him in her trap! Rawrrrr!
Yay for hearing Chuck's real accent, altough, I'm kind of sad about Marcus but I'm glad Blair is finally trying to follow her heart! What a tough situation to be in, torn between two hot guys! LOL
Can't wait for next week!!! As always!
xoxo
45I'm really enjoying Gossip Girl this season! I love Serena and Dan, I want them together. And I want Blair and the Lord together, just because. I don't like Nate and Vanessa together though, it just seems off.
p.s. I saw Ann from ANTM Cycle 3 too. I recognized her as soon as she came up onscreen.
46Chuck and Blair are becoming boring with their story! The writers are doing their best to ruin another couple.
I like Dan and Serena together but it's time to give them another storyline and let them mature apart. Later I want to see them back together.
Nate and Vanessa are cute together, but Chaterine has to go!
47I haven't seen the show yet this season, but am I the only one who loved Dan and Serena together? I'm such a hopeless romantic and even though they were a bit sappy, I loved it!
48Screw the Blair/Lord combo...I want more of Chuck and Blair. The Chuck vs. Lord thing makes this season. Also...Nate + Vanessa...I don't even like Vanessa, but I'd rather him with her than Catherine... -sigh- I get too involved in this show lol
49You're right, Serena and Dan are boring. They are finally over, but i guess they'll come back together eventually. Unfortunately. Plus, their isssues are boring and stupid, like you said, Dan is ridiculous for being all bothered about Serena's perks.
