With the Project Runway show at New York Fashion Week scheduled for this Friday, it seemed that we'd need to say goodbye to some designers fast. I mean, we've seen ProjRun Fashion Week shows with four designers, and I think even five, but eight? So I wasn't the least bit surprised to learn that two designers would be chopped after the avant garde challenge.

The double elimination was just one piece of what was going on in this jam-packed episode, though. There were old designers aplenty — eliminated contestants from this season back to help the remaining designers, plus favorites from previous seasons who returned to judge the winner at a cocktail party. Oh, and the outfits had to be both avant garde and based on the signs of the zodiac. To see all the outfits and talk about the auffings, just read more.
Before I get to the pictures, here are some other thoughts on the episode:
- One fun part of any team challenge is figuring out which teams should succeed and which would fail based on personality alone. Terri and Keith were clearly the worst match from the start.
- So, Kenley has become the designer I most want to punch in the teeth. She's overconfident, she doesn't listen to the challenge, and she's really obnoxious. Sure, Leanne and Emily probably shouldn't be rolling their eyes and passive-aggressively glaring at her, but I'd probably be doing the same thing! Love her excuse: "I just like to have fun, and some girls don't like that." But I thought all girls just wanted to have fun!
- That said: Wesley, really? You don't even attempt to collaborate with your designer to make a better final product, and then you spend the whole time trashing her in the interviews?
- But Wesley was not the oddest returning designer by far. No, that title goes to Keith. He was almost scary sad. "Just be gentle with me — I'm kind of fragile right now"? Eesh.
- I'm so glad we got rid of Jerry early. He would have been insufferable.
- With the exception of "All Women are Like Great Sports Cars" Robert, a really fantastic group of former ProjRun contestants came back to judge the cocktail party. It was great to see Kara Janx, Daniel Vosovic, and Allison Kelly, whose elimination I still feel is one of the worst miscarriages of justice in show history.
Now for the best and worst:
The Best
Since the returning designers voted for the best designs, I'll just say: Jerell? Really? I love the guy; I think he's turned out some great outfits. But beyond the jacket (which did have an amazing number of coordinating trims, as Daniel V. pointed out), the dress itself was pretty "meh," and I'm inclined to agree with Tim's comments about the fabric being schoolmarm-ish. Maybe I'm just bitter because I thought Leanne's exoskeleton was so much cooler and more avant garde — but it would have been bad to have her win three times in a row.
The Worst
- Kenley — I literally had to stop the TV because I was laughing so hard at her description of Aquarius as "rebellion, strength, strong, and purple." (Reminded me of when Michael Knight had to pick three words for his design aesthetic and supplied something like "sexy sex sex.") And saying she doesn't look at collections is basically saying she's uneducated as a designer. But it wasn't the worst on the runway by far.
- Blayne — I agree with the judges: Blayne's outfit was "unbearable to look at." I mean, a nude bodysuit with tulle pompoms and bondage straps? I sort of get what he was trying to do conceptually — one side was heavier, blah blah blah — but it just failed. I did get a chuckle out of Stella's "It's unbalanced . . . it's Blayne!" comment. Bye, Blayne. Go tan.
- Suede — I am shocked that nobody commented on the construction of Suede's pants, because they were painfully ill-fitting. Maybe that was an assumed part of the judges' comments about it being "mall clothing." I'm glad he squeaked through, but I did love Michael Kors calling him out on the "what Suede wanted . . . " BS.
- Terri — I actually thought Terri made some nice changes to her outfit after the cocktail party (I liked the touches of red better than the fur cape-thing), so I was surprised to see the judges come down so hard. Bottom line, though: How many times have we seen that having an attitude in a team challenge is a quick ticket home? So long, Terri.
Do you think Jerell can keep winning "until I get my novelty-sized check"? Do you think Kenley needs some duct tape across the ol' mouth? And of the remaining designers, whose collection do you most want to see?

i want kenley gone. like now.
cant stand her.
1I can't stand her either. I always feel like she's screaming when she speaks. And you don't "just want to have fun," honey. You just want to talk about how great your design is and how bad the others are. Blech.
2ugh kenley is so me,me,me,me,me and more me...she doesn't listen to anyone...it's frustrating...and her designs are not all that...
feel bad about terri b/c i think she was good
suede simply MUST stop the 3rd person talk and step up his game...last week's DVF camo dress concoction was NOT GOOD!
3Kenley needs to go because she is obnoxious and conceited. Suede needs to go because he is annoying (though kinda sweet). I thought all 4 of the bottom designs were awful.
Loved LeAnne's exoskeleton. I thought Jerrell's was interesting and well-made, but I didn't love it.
I liked Terri's better before she changed it. Hers was better than Suede's IMO, but her attitude was so awful that I understood why she was sent home. Keith IS a whiny baby, but who could blame him in that situation.
4i totally thought leanne's was best again. i wonder if they just didn't want her to win 3 weeks in a row. terri was such a witch haha i'm not sorry to see her go. and yes kenley is getting super annoying. i'd want my top three to be leanne, korto, and jerrell- cause the 1st two i think are great and jerrell annoys me the least out of the others.
5I really liked Kenley in the beginning - now I'm wondering if we just didn't see enough footage of her being obnoxious.
I love LeAnne. I would wear just about everything she's created this season. I'm hoping she'll be in the finals.
As soon as I saw Keith, I groaned. I'm glad he's gone.
6Glad to see Blanye go, mad as he...heck that Terri was sent home Suede should have been gone 3 challenges ago. He better go next time. I am very happy to see Jarrell win. I am glad it wasn't Leanne. If she had a made it longer it would have been hot. Kenly getting on my nerves...she is starting to crack under the pressure. Anyway good show last night.
7Kenley never actively irritated me before last night. Now I just want her gone. Joe's was my favorite last night, but Jerell's was all right. The fabric was ugly, but I liked the shape.
8I liked Kotori's water sign outfit. It was gorgeous and deserved to win!! I hope she makes it to the end. She is incredibly talented.
9At this point, Kenley has become insufferable. She is definitely a brat and if she keep falter on her designs, she won't be around for much longer.
Terri and Keith were a NIGHTMARE pairing. I recall them working together on project once before and the communication and teamwork was nil. So with Keith being "fragile" and Terri being strong of an opinion and bull-headed, that was a pair destined to for failure.
It was high time that Blayne got the boot. His designs, with perhaps the exception of one, have been disastrous. I was wondering when was this "hip hop, urban" designing going to make an appearance...and it never did
.
I, too, liked Lillian's exoskeleton better than Jerrel's marm, but I am happy he won!!!
10I used to like Kenley, but the way she was not able to handle criticism yesterday, and this time for a bad dress really annoys me.
Terri so had it coming. She was totally unprofessional, and then tried to blame Keith. He did initially try to help. Sure he was mopey, but initially he tried. I thought her dress was better than Suede's but I am not too sad to see she's gone.
Blayne... FINALLY it was about time he left. That dress (can we call it that?) must be one of the worst things I've seen on PR. It was awful, and he's not really been producing quality stuff for the entire season pretty much in my eye.
LeAnne's getting very annoying too, though. She needs to just get over talking about Kenley and mind her own business.
I loved her dress though, and I thought both her and joe's dress were better than jerrell's.
I'm not entirely sure that the win wasn't at least a bit biased, since the former contestants basically got to hang out with the contestants rather than just seeing the dresses come down a runway.
11sorry, Leanne NOT Lillian.
12Last nights episode just made me realize how much I cannot stand this season, seeing all the past designers, and especially my little christian, who has more talent and personality than the lot of this seasons combined.
I hated that at the planetarium you could barely see the outfits.
WTF was suedes outfit? those "scales" thingees?
13i'm glad blayne and terry are finally out. i hope kenley's next. she's really starting to get on my nerves.
14Whhaaaat?!? I'm shocked. Kenley is so lovable. Her outfit this episode, however, was SH!TEOUS!! Leanne is a clam-faced brat.
15Korto, Leanne & Jerrel-Top 3 for me. Kenley is an obnoxious, rude, arrogant, overly confident, cackle-laughing, pompous piece of work. "I don't look at other designers collections"----soooo, you don't know that you basically got the big sleeves from Alexander McQueen, Viktor & Rolf & the flower part from D&G or Balenciaga??? I love how next week Jerrel says that she makes an incredible 50's(or 60's) dress & that's about all she has. Her design was tacky & while it wasn't the absolute worst, her attitude & the yelling at the judges was the worst attitude i've ever seen on that show.
Blayne's thing, because that's what it was, was an embarrasment to fashion. It was like a long john with straps & fabric wrapped around one leg. No more trying to trick Tim into saying Holla at ya boy-thank you, Lord!
And praise to Michael for acknowledging Suede's third person talk.....let it go!
Go Korto!!!
16I think Kenley is talented, but she needs to realize she isnt the best or anything. I mean, you are on a show to make you something because you are a nobody. I like that she sticks up for her decisions but I think its starting to be a disadvantage. No one wants to work with or congratulate a sh*tty person. Thats why Terri went home and thats why she will be sent home also.
Leanne for the Win!
17I'm rooting for Leanne. I think she's super talented. I also really like Korto.
18Team Leanne. She seems like a total bore to spend time with but I'd wear everything she's put on the runway, with the exception of that brown silk dress mishap.
Joe and Daniel's dress was gorgeous and I never really cared for anything either of them produced.
19Joe or Leanne should have won. Jerrell's was ok but not avant garde, didn't seem like a zodiac sign, had too much going on, etc. Korto's was also good, not great, but fit the challenge.
Kenley's aesthetic seems to be "pick as many granny fabrics as possible and throw them together until people barf." I can't stand her. I wish the judges would get more on her case for interrupting them every second.
I wish we had cut 2 people per episode up to this point!
20kenly needs to be gone
21and Joe should have deff won!
korto, jerrell, and leanne, top 3 totally. it might come down between korto and leanne. I've liked most of their stuff more than i've liked jerell's. and yeah, his outfit last night wasn't the best by far.
22I totally love Leanne. I would so wear her clothes.
Kinley drives me up with wall. I wish they would have told her cut the attitude and your stupid not to look at other collections. I am hoping she doesn't go to the end. He stuff is all the same.
23I was happy that Blayne and Terri got kicked off. I think Suede will be next, I think he has some serious issues because no one refers to themselves in their third person that much. Kenley is f*cking annoying, she really needs to get over herself and listen to the judges. They are the ones who decide whether you stay or go home, so you shouldn't mouth off to them.
I loved Leanne's gown, it was very innovative but it also stuck to her aesthetic. I also liked Joe's gown, and even Jerell's dress wasn't that bad. I thought they were all really interesting and fabulous in their own way.
"...Allison Kelly, whose elimination I still feel is one of the worst miscarriages of justice in show history."
ITA, Buzz. I wish Santino would come back on the show, I've never seen him invited back on Project Runway. He was a hilarious contestant, and even if his back-talking wasn't as bad as Kenley's or some of the other people on here. Santino just didn't get along with Nina Garcia (and frankly, I don't like her either).
24Jerrell, honey, can we have a word, please?
'Kay. Now you know we love you lots and want you to succeed, but this has to be said:
STOP
PUTTING
FUNKY
SH*T
ON
YOUR
MODEL'S
HEAD
Thanks, sweetie. Kiss-kiss...
25I think ProjRun needs to end. It's been great guys. but pack it up now. I'm over it. This season sucks. I don't "like" anyone. Even the talented designers irritate me: Korto with her monotone voice and miserable face and Leanne with her whispery voice and mousy brown hair. UGH. Just please NBC take my advice and end it. It's over.
26I'm so glad that Terri went home last night. She hasn't bothered me up until now, but she was a heinous biyotch last night. Who cares if you don't like your partner all that much, at least be civil. Lord.
27I too liked Kenley in the beginning, but man alive is she getting annoying. Soooo glad that Terri went home. I hope she watches the show back to realize how mean she was some of the time b/c she strikes me as someone who is clueless about their b*tchery.
28Frankly...the judges got it 100% right as far as who should have gotten kicked off.
Blayne...bless his heart...made for good TV, but he ISN'T a very good designer...at least not yet and he lasted far longer than he should have.
As for "poor poor" Terry...she didn't design pants, tube top and blazer...and she was totally obnoxious to Keith...and now she's gone...NO SURPRISE about that...she SHOULD be gone.
Kenley may be hard to take but she's a WAY better designer than Terry and she SHOULD still be competing.
If the judges got one thing wrong it was the winner...and let's face it...the judges didn't make that decision, the former contestants did...it should have been Leanne...whose pretty obnoxious in her own way BTW.
But I think Korto Momolu should win the whole thing...I still think that coat she designed out of seat belts is the most fantastic design we've seen so far this year and I want it...to wear when I do drag of course.
29I hated Kenley this episode! So cocky. And in the previews for next week's show, she seems even more unwilling to listen to Tim (umm major faux pas! Always listen to Tim).. I liked her in the beginning but not anymore.
How did Jerell win? I thought Joe or Leanne should have. Leanne is doing really good from the last three challenges. Looove her.
Terri was being totally rude this episode to Keith who was really just trying to help her. I'm glad she's gone. And even though Blayne was crazy, I'll miss him.
30And Allison? One bad outfit and bad timing. Totally one of the worst eliminations ever!
31Looks like the Top 3 are shaping up to be Korto, Leanne, and Jerell. I'm ok with this match-up. I like the way Jerell combines fabrics and prints.
I was ready for Kenley to be gone last week.
32TERRI: say it ain't so! Yeah, yeah, yeah- I know she was rude, but her designs throughout the show have consistently been awesome. It just KILLS me that Suede gets to show at Bryant Park tomorrow (even though he may be a decoy) and Terri doesn't. Waah. Boo hoo (Sorry- now I sound like Keith).
33i'm still a kenley fan, i think she's adorable and i really admire that she stands up for herself. i definitely thought the comment on not paying attention to other designers was rediculous... art inspires art, and you need to be aware of what is going on in the fashion world, of what has already happened and of what is happening, in order to even attempt making something avant garde, or anything original period. i thought her telling nina and michael emphatically that her dress was avant garde when they are a far more credible judges of such a thing was rediculous. but i still really admire her spirit, and love how she handled the girls being gossipy about her. no drama, just a comment to let them know it's bullsh*t and a shrug of her shoulders. also: i ADORE her plumed hair pieces!! especially the violet one with the jewels. and red lipstick is my fave.
also love leanne and korto's designs. was thorougly impressed with suades winning dress, but haven't been since. speaking in third person is especially annoying and a desperate attempt to elevate yourself in some meager way. ugh. that's my only serious qualm with suade.
i dug jerrel's look, and really like his personality. however, i think joe's dress should have won the challenge... i loved the feathers at the bust and the skirt was so interesting; the gathering and the layering. i do not think the photos at the top of the page do either joe or jerrel's designs justice.
my pick for the top three: any combo of jerrel, korto, leanne, or kenley.
34oh, and i was ecstatic to see terri go... what a sour personality!
35I agree with the Leanne, Korto, and Jerrel final 3 assessment. I would've said Kenley before, but I think her attitude is going to get her kicked off. She's been talking back too much and they're going to put her in her place and make her eat some humble pie. I thought her outfit had nothing to do with Aquarius, and might have been more appropriate for Libra with the scales or something.
I liked Leanne's too and thought that they didn't want to give her 3 in a row as well. Korto's fit her sign very well, and I liked it. I'm glad Jerrel won though, he's done well and I'm glad he finally got recognized. The skirt was very well made.
Oh and Blayne's gone...HOLLA AT YA BOY!
36I would love to see Korto win a challenge. I think she's the underdog this season.
37Watching Kenley defend her design was like watching some bratty teen girl. I wanted to throw something at the t.v. I hope she goes home soon.
There is a huge difference between defending your work & being mature enough to take constructive criticism AND then being an obnoxious brat.
Kenley was being the latter. She showed her brattiness early on at the Planetarium when she said she was going to "Put Heidi (Klum) in her place"...REALLY, LADY!?!
On the runway she wasn't listening to the critiques, but rather taking to heart everything that was being said. Her creation was just a low scale hodgepodge of better pieces done by bigger names. When she said that she didn't look at collections, that's when I was through with her.
38I want to see LeAnne, Korto, and Jerrell's collections the most.
39"Allison Kelly, whose elimination I still feel is one of the worst miscarriages of justice in show history."
Amen, Buzz, amen. I was looking at Allison's website and gosh, I want so many of her clothing. BTW, looking back at this season's eliminated designers, I wished Kelli stayed longer.
40californiagirl could not agree less...santino was so untalented and bratty and nina garcia is the best of the judges...love her...
I HATE Kenley...shut up, when people that decide if you win or not speak. No your designs are really not that great!!!
Same goes for Terri...excuses, excuses and attitude
I like Leanne (spell?), she is humble and sweet and Korto the most.
Keith was the worst. He was like Kenley, did not know when to shut up and his designs were some of the worst I have ever seen on the show...he is so whiney and overconfident..ughhh
In general, I am amazed that a lot of the designers were arguing with the judges. They seem very disrespectful..
41Kenley gave me the "OH NO SHE DI'NT!"s last night. Seriously. You do NOT go off on the judges. She'd better have kissed the ground when she walked backstage after being told she was in.
42I don't know who's gone next but I saw some of the outfits from the PR show (everyone left got to show their fashions, just like they do in previous seasons) and I have a pretty good hunch who's going to win.
43There was some very hideous looks in this episode, like those puffy sleaves, yuck!
