Reading the description of the 2006 French comedy Mon meilleur ami (My Best Friend), it sounds perfectly Wes Anderson-y, so it's no wonder that Anderson has signed on to write and possibly direct a remake of the film. Variety explains the movie's plot:
The French pic starred Daniel Auteuil as a cranky antiques dealer who learns at a dinner with his closest acquaintances that none of them really like him because of his harsh manner and selfishness. When his business partner bets him a valuable vase that he can’t produce a best friend, the dealer tries to get an amiable cab driver to pose as his buddy.
Anderson's most recent project is an animated adaptation of Roald Dahl's The Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Have you seen My Best Friend? Can you see a remake in Wes Anderson's hands?

I´ve actually seen My best friend at the cinema earlier this year. Its a funny movie, with a very French type of humour. I´d guess Wes Anderson could do a good remake, he´s great director, but I´m wary of remakes in general.
1i saw it in my french class, it was so predictable.
2well, i'm looking forward to any Wes Anderson film but i'd like his original story than remake.
3I loved My Best Friend, but I can't imagine it redone in English.
4I've seen the movie and sorry guys but I don't understand why american guys need to make some remake!?
5Can't you just watch a movie from an other country with subtitles?? That's what we do with american movies!
We don't make remake all the time!!
sorry but I find this attitude very direspectful for our film makers!
disrespectful? yes because making movies is about respect and not about money. you are an idiot. they would make gone with the wind V: revenge of the wind, if would turn a profit. to you movies are art...they are NOT to the people who finance them. remember that.
6Wes Anderson isn't about money, he is about the story, and I think he is a genuine character that will do this movie justice. If you have seen any of his other films you would understand he writes and directs stories, and cares about money very little.
7I think that Wes is showing a tremendous amount of respect by remaking this movie. He obviously enjoyed s much he thought it should be shared with the English audience. And more people are likely to watch a movie in English rather than a movie in French with subtitles.
8"sorry but I find this attitude very disrespectful for our film makers!"
I like how you say that while you are slurping down a Starbucks Coffee, it makes your opinion very credible.
9what's wrong with these american feedbacks? "you are an idiot"? that's an awful lot of disrespect right there. and wtf has consuming coffee from an imperial franchise got to do with art? occasionally american films are remarkable and fantastic, eg. when wes anderson writes and directs them. remakes are disrespectful to the intelligence of the audience who - obviously - over time gets so spoiled and stupid that they cannot read subtitles and watch pictures simultaneously. and god forbid one might pick up a foreign word or two, cultural differences and unpolished, existential views on a world that if you didn't know it already exists mostly outside of north america.
10I enjoy movies with subtitles, but movies without subtitles can be enjoyed in a different way. More importantly, it's absurd to suggest that the only reason to remake a movie is to change the language. It's particularly absurd to suggest Wes Anderson would remake a movie without having some significant to add.
