The new 90210 was back on Tuesday with its third installment (the premiere night was technically two episodes) and I was relieved to find the pace of this one a little more digestible. I think last week, with all the introductions to a dizzying amount of characters plus tons of plot points, made it difficult to get too invested in anyone. This week they settled into the characters and let us get to know them a little bit better.

Knocks against this episode include the unfortunate absence of my favorite part of the show, Grandma Tabitha, and the stubborn refusal of the actor who plays Ethan to sufficiently emote. Also, this episode could have been titled, "This is where we cement the Wilson family as the wholesome bunch from middle America who will serve as a stark contrast to the broken homes and overall moral vacuum that is Beverly Hills — except, oh right, there's a secret son out there somewhere, but never mind about that right now."
Ready to chat about all of it? Just read more.
- I have questions: Why does Annie smile so much? Why is the teacher really interested in Kelly? Why did Navid Shirazi say he had a Bar Mitzvah? Why does Naomi look even scarier when she's making sad face? Why are the Wilson kids expected to do chores after curfew on a Friday night? Why was Annie so mad about being ditched by Ty when just minutes before she went to help a girl she doesn't even like have a breakdown in the parking lot?
- Speaking of Naomi's sad face, it was in full effect when her dad ditched out on their special weekend in Vegas at the last minute and made up for it by buying her a car. I, too, hate it when my dad tries to buy my love with luxury items. It totally sucks!
- The first episode was kind of whirlwind, so remind me — is Kelly new to the school? Is the young, hot teacher new? I feel like they have this chemistry that's supposed to be boiling over right now, but I just don't get why he talks about meeting her son so much when they're on a first date that neither will admit is a date. See? Questions!
- Also: If the family really moved to Beverly Hills for Tabitha, where was she? How much better would it have been to see her at the bowling alley, chain-smoking in the corner and buying drinks for all the hot young Beverly Hills boys?
- In addition to lack of Grandma Tabitha, there was no Brenda either, so boo.
- So the actress who plays Kelly's mom is back and she's still a cokehead (the character, not the actress)! And it's ruining Silver's life, forcing her to stay in women's shelters. Also, I feel like Silver's the most decent actress of the bunch. (She's still overshadowed by Tristan Wilds as Dixon, though. I mean, Dixon knows the streets.)
- There were a lot of cryptic mentions of Kelly's son's dad. Everyone only used words like "he" and "him" as opposed to his name, so we don't know if it's Brandon or Dylan or maybe David Silver (what? they weren't blood) or, God willing, Steve! Place your bets now.
- Family bowling night was so Cindy Walsh of Debbie. On the other hand Jim Walsh was never ever in the same attractiveness league as Mr. Wilson.
- Dixon and Silver as a couple is definitely something I can get behind. I have no idea what to root for with Annie because Ethan is a robot and the other guy is smarmy and obnoxious. Annie doesn't seem to care either.
- Finally, Naomi's little singing friend needs to stop with the singing in the car forever more.

What did you all think of last night? A little on the cheese side for you or deliciously soapy? Do you feel bad for Naomi at all? Or were you scared like me? Do you like the back and forth between the Kelly/Silver story and the rest of the new cast? Overall do you think this episode was better or a little worse than the premiere?

I like the show. I know it's fluff, but hey... Kelly! Brenda! I agree that the guy who plays Ty is totally smarmy and gross and overly pretty- and this coming from someone who likes a pretty boy. My biggest problem with this show is that the Silver and Annie girls are SO DANG SKINNY!!!! Silver especially is a total lollipop head. I think it's a bad message to send to young girls...
1Naomi scares me. She has angry face constantly. The guy that plays Dixon was amazing when he played Michael on The Wire, but his character now is just falling kind of flat for me. I hope that changes. Otherwise it was pretty much exactly how cheesy I expect from a show of it's kind! I will agree w/ CJ though...someone needs to get those girls some fooooood. Silver's legs are terrifyingly tiny.
2LOVED last nights episode.
****SPOILERS***** IF you haven't watched don't read this post. LMAO
I LOVED that Kelly confronted her Mother. "Nice job Mom" I was CHEERING!!!!!!!! I hope Silver stays with her forever.
I loved the whole Bowling Scenario. I'd bet that even though it wasn't those kids CHOICE to bowl, they had a blast. Heck I wanted to be there!
Love that Dixon is sweet on Silver. I think they'd be cute together. And Dixon's back story? Was than an awwwwww moment or what? Poor kid!
I wanted Kelly to finally SAY THE FRIGGIN' NAME of Sam's father! Are they going to wait until sweeps week to tell us? BUT, we DID find out it was just a fling, and not a relationship, so that leans towards Dylan, because Brandon is a monogamy kinda guy and I seriously doubt Brandon would have left her to raise his child alone. It's GOTTA be Dylan. Of course, this would be just what the show WANTS us to believe, so I'm probably wrong. Or am I? LMAO
And yeah, I was saying all along that I hoped the Wilsons would in fact BE the Walsh's with their family unity. I'm glad to see they did that. As to the missing "son", well, even the best families have their secrets. Cindy almost had an affair in the original series, and so did Jim. I think back THEN just the thoughts of it were taboo enough. Now though, THINKING about an affair is nothin'. It's gotta be some other skeleton, and I'm sure that this new child will be a very big part of the show. I can't see how it wouldn't be. I mean, remember, Donna found out that her father had had an affair and Gina was HER half sister, so why not?
Okay, I think that's it. I love the show though. Very syrupy, very high school and very entertaining. I LOVE IT. Anything that allows me to turn off my brain for an hour is OK by me.
3CJaneTyp is SOOOO RIGHT!! I will not watch the show anymore soley due to the disgusting skinniness of those two actresses. They need to gain weight. Fast. I actually truly believe that forever-anorexic-in-the-tabloids Keira Knightley is significantly heavier than either one of them.
4eh i'll give it one more chance ... haha funny comment about ethan, he is a terrible actor.
my roommate and i were wondering why the show doesn't do it for us, then we realized we are 24 watching a preteen show ... so no complaints, just not my thing!
5Oh I forgot! How about Naomi's screwed up family? Talk about POOR KID. OMG! I couldn't believe the attitude her mother gave to her. And was it just me or did her mother appear to be heavily drugged during that scene as well?
Naomi is DEFINITELY going to be the "Kelly Taylor" character for me. The one I hate, love, hate, love, hate and eventually love. LOL I couldn't STAND Kelly during the 1st/2nd seasons of 90210. I thought she was a willful spoiled BRAT! But eventually she became my all time favorite. I think it's because she had everything happen to her. She was shot, raped, burned alive, someone tried to murder her, TWICE, I mean wow. LOL
6I agree Mykie7. I felt bad for Naomi too. Her family is screwed up.
I know many people don't like her, but she can act better than Shenae Grimes..IMO
I loved the part in last week's episode where Naomi slapped Ethan in the face, when she found out that everyone knew he cheated on her. LOL. And yes, i agree Ethan can't act, but he sure is cute
I thought it was nice of Kelly to invite Silver to live with her. I wonder who the father of Kelly's kid is..I hope we find out soon.

8sorry i didn't mean to post that twice
^
but i forgot to add - I missed Tabitha as well. She's just so hilarious!
9I cant get over how stick thin Silver is. I'm just waiting for the actress who plays her to check into a clinic for eating disorders. She really does look sickly.
10I'm waiting to see how long they're going to hold out on naming Kelly's sons dad. I think it's Dylans. It would be really out of character for Brandon to have a baby and not want to be a part of his life.
I'm really digging this show. Cant wait til next week.
Much better than the first 2 episodes ! but i like it mostly for the Kelly and Brenda, i'm curious to know who is the daddy, probably Dylan.
11i'm not that into the show, but since there's really not much else on, i'm still going to watch it. i definitely like silver though, she's my favorite so far. i'm glad dixon showed off a little of his acting abilities. and i'm pretty sure the father of kelly's son is dylan. god i love him. i hope he comes back
12As much as I love seeing Kelly (and Brenda, and Nat), I don't know if I can keep watching this show. The acting is terrible, the plot lines have all been done before (come on, if you're going to catch your parent having an affair, do so because you're stalking Color Me Badd at the Bel Age hotel!), and Silver and Annie are WAY TOO THIN. It's been sad before, but they are just gross. And I feel like by watching the show, I'm condoning this. Ugh.
Try looking up the actress who plays Silver... in the movie Prom Night, she looked like a completely different person. So sad!
13The guy who plays Ty gives me the creeps. Oh, and that guy Ethan reminds me of one of the two fuzzhead twins from Degrassi. That is NOT a compliment
14A lot of bad acting, a lot of kinda creepy-looking actors (or scarily skinny ones), but still good cheesy fun!
Are we to interpret some weirdness between Brenda & Kelly re: next week's preview with Ryan playing the guitar?
Oh, and Ryan? Definitely NOT one of the creepy-looking actors. He's cute!
15We have a poll about who Sammy's dad is...

The episode was alright, although it's not my favorite so far. The foreshadowing and hints in the show aren't subtle and the acting is pretty subpar but there's something terribly addicting about it; even my husband was sucked into watching it.
Ty makes me suspicious; he's too perfect too soon. It makes me think he has an ulterior motive. I guess maybe because he's her comfort zone but I can't believe that Naomi would take comfort from Ethan, given that she had just seen her dad cheating and Ethan had cheated on HER.
Silver is my favorite so far but she does often get overshadowed by Annie or Naomi.
I agree with the comments about how TINY Annie is. It makes her beautiful voluminous hair look freaky on such a tiny, narrow frame. (Hopefully it's because that's her metabolism and not anything unhealthy.)
17I havent watched it yet but I will watch and then post my review
Just didnt want you to think I was watching anymore! I love Kelly's mother. She was like the highlight of the old series.
18I'm thinking the dad's definitely Dylan, mostly because of her "history" comments last night and their hook up. And I totally agree about Naomi's sad face. It terrifies me. I just hope that they don't do as much of the after-school special stuff as the original, because the ep last night was sort of bordering on it.
Totally agree about why Annie would go help someone she doesn't speak to, who doesn't even like her. So weird. That part bugged me.
Also, Silver and Annie both need to eat a sandwich. It's disturbing, as were Silver's stirrup pants. Please god no.
19I could honestly not even concentrate on the show, bc I am so distracted by how skinny Silver and Annie are...especially Silver...in my opinion she needs help desperatly. And I agree she looks almost worse than Nicole Ritchie and Keira ever did and they were slammed for it in the media. I am dissapointed that the CW and the show accepts this....buuuhhhhh and get these girls some help...it is not a pretty sight..
The old BH girls back in the day were healthy and somewhat relateable...but this is just sick.
Also too many pretty boys...not good. This show is not called High School Musical. lol
20Okay, I hope this posts correctly:
http://theskinnywebsite.com/site/2008/09/05/jessica-stroup-before-after/
Unreal!
And Kelly's kid has curly blond hair... Steve Sanders, anyone?
21I thought this episode was very cheesy. I did not feel bad for Naomi because we never saw a bond between her and her father. Where can I muster up sympathy from. I missed Brenda desperately and don't think I can watch another show with out her. Dylan the father of Kelly's son. Brandon would never leave his child.
22Sammy's father has to be Dylan, Kelly said they dated back in High School and the only guys she dated in HS were Steve and Dylan, and it can't be Steve! She didn't start dating Brandon till college.
I think Naomi is not only scary and super annoying but the actress that plays her is terrible, her attempts to show emotions were way worse than Ethan's.
Somehow I haven't really noticed that Annie and Silver are to skinny, apparently that is how much I got sucked in , scary!
23Oregon chick, she said they had HISTORY in high school, not that they dated. And it strikes me that that is very telling.
24Mykie! STEVEN SANDERS!
25Don't EVEN go there Lauren! It has burst all my bubbles! Not my Steve! It CAN'T be! He married Janet, they are in love and have Maddie! nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!
26hahahaha it would ruin my image of the sand man.
27i am so glad that other people noticed the horrific skinniness. it is just really distracting. silver standing next to kelly was such a joke- she's a third of her size. when your wrists are bigger than your upper arms, you have a problem. i wonder if the cw execs told her to loose weight and she just took it too far? otherwise highly entertaining show.
28Minka, remember also that Jennie Garth has quoted herself as "overweight" right now. She said that after her DWTS stint, her daughter came down with an illness that went undiagnosed for a long time and then her father died. She said that she quit excercising and eating right, and that all the hard work and progress she made in DWTS was gone.
So, while Silver MAY be super thin, don't use Jennie Garth as the guideline, because she herself has said she's "large".
29ugh that just makes me feel bad about myself. doesn't she have like three kids? i think she looks really good for a mom of three in her thirties. even on my widescreen tv. which just makes it all the more sad that those girls are so thin- i'm sure in person they look like toothpicks. i know by hollywood standards jennie garth is "large", i just think its sad she feels the need to have a disclaimer about it. i wish we could see some normal looking girls on tv- i live in la too, and let me tell you i see girls in beverly hills that aren't a size 0.
30there's just so much going on with this show but i'm really happy about it. i like that all the characters have things going on to keep me interested and i think that as we get further into the season we'll see things quiet down and get a bit more in depth. i love this show and i'm so happy that it's come back on TV and that they decided to bring it back. i'm just waiting for more old characters to come back and to reveal who sammy's dad is.
31Jennie Garth is just so beautiful, not matter how she looks. I love her.
..man, last night was such a tearjerker though. I relate to Naomi and Silver (although it was my father that was the alcoholic). Don't want to look like either of those girls though.. just 'related' to them.
..and then I felt so bad for Annie's mom. I like how their family is so close.. I'm trying to keep my family like that. We have family day, not night once a week too. And then we really focus on family bonding like that in the evenings.
I'm really liking how the different characters have things I can understand. They're doing a great job of pulling me in.
32I just watched the episode, since I missed it last night. I thought it was a big step up from the first two episodes and it actually felt a bit like the original 90210. I liked Silver more, and I think she would make a cute couple with Dixon. The scene at the end with Kelly, Silver, and Sammy in the bed was sooo cute. It's too bad that their mom is back to her old habits.
Annie still annoys me. Ethan is still boring. Naomi is an ugly crier. Navid is cool. Ty (is that Annie's love interest's name?) seems like he's gay. Harry & Debbie (the Wilson parents) are cute together. I don't know why Mr. Matthews is trying so hard to meet Kelly's kid either.
Ok, those are my thoughts. Nice and succinct.
33I'm afraid I am hooked on 90210 now; it's the perfect fluff.
Plus I am def. into finding out the father of Kelly's boy! IMO, the writers have no set baby daddy yet since none of the boys have thus been interested in coming back to the show. Still Brandon Walsh - deserting his child? Probably not!
Buzz, it totally bothered me too that Annie just ran of to help Naomi. Ummm... since when did they become bff?! They really need to look into getting a better boy option for her - I like Ethan's character, but the actor is kind of flat.
Like everyone else, I am really enjoying Silver's character, but it kind of hurts to look at her. Her upper arms are the same size as her wrists. Sure there is a ton of pressure in Hollywood to be thin, but Nicole Richie never even looked that bad.
Also I missed Tabitha, but wasn't a huge fan of Kelly/Silver's mom return.
34Annie needs to stop touching her hair every 10 secs. Its getting really annoying. I cant stand her acting as well, its sooo not natural.
35I know this show is just fluff but sometimes a girl needs her fluff...I'm also a Gossip Girl fan (books & show)
36It was a good episode! i think Naomi is a terrible actress. Annie, while I love her, smiles and touches her hair too much and I just wanna smack her. I miss the old 90210 where all of them were pretty good actors and it wasnt so glossy. I liked that they were all pretty but it felt real. That element is just gone on this one- think it would be better with it.
37If anyone was wondering (and I know I was, because it's scary), Silver the actress is 5'8" and weighs 105 pounds. The others aren't much better. It's in the new issues of US Weekly, actually, about how the original girls of 90210 were much more normal than the new ones.
