Last year was supposed to be the big Britney Spears comeback show at the MTV Video Music Awards — but this year marked Britney's real return. Britney won her first VMA (and, before long, her second and third), taking home the moonmen for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video, and Video of the Year for "Piece of Me."
Russell Brand hosted the 25th ceremony, which included today's chart-toppers putting their own spins on classic songs (Katy Perry singing a snippet of "Like a Virgin," etc). While Britney was the night's big winner, others who will need to find a space on their shelves for a moonman include Chris Brown, the Pussycat Dolls, and Tokio Hotel. To see the whole list of winners, just read more.

but I loved Russell's jokes about them. And Jordan Sparks....um, yeah....judgemental much?

Yay for Britney!! I was so excited for her.
I was severely disappointed by the awards this year. I had high hopes for Russell Brand because of his part in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but he really sucked. He kept commenting about the election and the Jonas Brothers! Those jokes got really old maybe by the second time he said something about it. I'm glad Jordin Sparks said something about it!
Overall, the whole thing was terrible. The best performance in my opinion was Lil' Wanye, which was probably the best part of the show. I even sort of liked the beginning of the new Jonas Brothers song, but by the time they got to the rock part it really lost me.
