I haven't had much use for M. Night Shyamalan since The Sixth Sense; in fact, I hated Signs so much I haven't seen any of his subsequent movies.
However, I have a lot of use for Mark Wahlberg, so I'm excited to see him getting so many great roles lately. He is very subtle in the decidedly unsubtle Shooter, and soon, he'll be working with Matt Damon and director Darren Aronofsky on The Fighter.
Now, Variety is reporting that Wahlberg has signed on to star in Shyamalan's The Happening, which will begin shooting in Philadelphia in August. According to Variety, Wahlberg will play "a man who takes his family on the run when the world turns upside and a cataclysmic natural crisis threatens to end the world." Sounds like typical Shyamalan fare, but if anything can get me into the theater to see one of his movies again, it's my boy Mark.

I agree 100% about M. Night. I hated "Signs," but gave "The Village" a chance and hated it even MORE! So I skipped "The Lady In The Water," even though one of my all-time favorite actors (Giamatti) was the star.
1On the other hand, I always get excited to hear that M. Night is shooting in my hometown. It's fun when there's a chance to run into a celeb here in Philly. I hope that some other big stars sign on.
2I loves me some Marky Mark, and I am forgiving of M. Night's deviations from greatness. It's hard when everyone constantly has such high expectations of him! He'll have a come back one of these days.
3I guess I'm alone in this one, but I like M. Night. All except Unbreakble. But Mark is HOTT! So, I hope this one does well.

4WhiplashGirlchild, I completely agree. It was painful to see my fave Paul Giamatti in Lady In The Water. He's such a terrific actor but he couldn't save that piece of junk. I doubt Mark Wahlberg, who I adore, is going to fare any better.
