Amazing, isn't it, that we've had a quarter-century of awesome performances and crazy stunts [1] at the MTV Video Music Awards? This year's 25th installment [2] of the irreverent awards ceremony kicks off tonight at 8 p.m., with a whole bunch of new moonmen just waiting to be handed out.

A few things we know about tonight's show: Russell Brand is hosting, which should mean lots of borderline bleep-able moments. Britney Spears is opening the show, though she's supposedly not performing [3]. And tons of performances are lined up, including one from Kanye West to close the show.
