Amazing, isn't it, that we've had a quarter-century of awesome performances and crazy stunts at the MTV Video Music Awards? This year's 25th installment of the irreverent awards ceremony kicks off tonight at 8 p.m., with a whole bunch of new moonmen just waiting to be handed out.
A few things we know about tonight's show: Russell Brand is hosting, which should mean lots of borderline bleep-able moments. Britney Spears is opening the show, though she's supposedly not performing. And tons of performances are lined up, including one from Kanye West to close the show.
Don't forget you can win a VMA goody bag, and come back tonight to see live polling, red carpet coverage, and all the winners here on the Sugar sites. For now, you can check out the nominees over here, and to watch a clip of Brand talking about the awards, just read more.

Russell Brand, yay. If I watch, I watch for that.
1i was SOO excited that russell brand was hosting but i have to say that he wasn't that good. there were no funny - typical brand comments, just a lot of screaming and preaching - which really let me down. hmm...don't know if he'll be back again.
2Is MTV hurting for money? I don't know about the production value of that show.
3The show wasn't what I expect it. The production is usually very good and this time looked cheap and Russel I tough he was going to be funnier.
4He was awful and alienated half the audience from the show. How did he even land that gig? Has he done anything besides Forgetting Sarah Marshall?
5MTV's parent company, Viacom has MTV listed as "for viewers 12 to 34." Knowing this they still put Russell Brand as the host. Even the first six minutes of his intro are inappropriate for a significant portion of that age range. I am all for free speech, but I am also for my freedom to react to that free speech. If you, like I was, are offended by this and the fact that MTV aired this here are some actions you can take.

6the best part of the VMA's was Kanye West's performance at the end... the worst part was the host (what's with the accent?)
