During one wild week in January, four different couples from my favorite TV shows got engaged. It's been a while now, so in honor of Engagement Week, I thought I'd check back in on those crazy kids to see how they're doing now.

George and Callie, "Grey's Anatomy"

This was the proposal you thought was the most ridiculous. Things started off OK for the pair, who eloped to Vegas, but their return to Seattle Grace wasn't so smooth. George realized he didn't know Callie that well and started to doubt his decision; Callie grew frustrated with George always succumbing to the opinions of his "weird and judgy friends." After a blowout fight, George slept with his best friend, and now they've sworn to keep it a secret from Callie. Something tells me this isn't going to end well.

Julie and Bullitt, "The OC"

Well, in case you missed it, "The OC" was canceled, so Julie and Bullitt have that working against them. Plus, there was the whole issue of Julie not really being at all interested in Bullitt. Mainly, she was tempted by his money and the fact that Kaitlin wanted him as a dad. In the end, the marriage didn't happen, but that's probably for the best. In the season finale, we saw Bullitt cheering Julie on as she graduated from college.

Burke and Cristina, "Grey's Anatomy"
Their engagement came out of the blue following a weeks-long fight, and they've had a lot of challenges since the proposal, mostly involving Cristina's reservations about the trappings of a traditional wedding. Burke has been questioning Cristina's motivations recently, too, after realizing that Cristina's ex-boyfriend was also a renowned heart surgeon. And yet, for some reason, I think things are going to work out for them. Their steps forward might be baby steps, but at least they're moving.

Jason and Lyla, "Friday Night Lights"

I'm not sure if it's because they're 17, because Jason had just been through a traumatic injury, or because Lyla cheated on Jason only weeks before, but their engagement seemed doomed from the start. There have been a few glimmers of hope — Jason seemed sincere when he professed his love a couple of weeks ago — but then he kissed cute tattoo artist Susie and stopped returning Lyla's calls. Given that this week's episode involved Lyla throwing a glass of water at Jason and then walking out, I suspect they'll be broken up before the end of the season.
