Those of us who watched the 90210 premiere last night got a special surprise in the show's second hour: the first trailer for Confessions of a Shopaholic! The movie, based on Sophie Kinsella's best-selling book, stars Isla Fisher as the adorable, silly, and sassy heroine Becky Bloomwood.
A couple of things: First of all, I thought Becky would have a British accent, but nope, she's American. OK. Second, when the trailer first came on, I thought it was some sort of credit card commercial thanks to all the shopping scenes. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. And third — but probably most important — Isla Fisher looks like she's bringing all of her usual sparkle and charm to the role. Not that I doubted her, really, but I was a little nervous we'd lose her comedy beneath some of those over-the-top outfits we've been seeing. There's a quick succession of scenes at the end — doing a little jig in a dressing room, speaking fake Finnish, and doing something inexplicable with a fan — that just makes me giggle every time.
What are your first impressions? To watch the trailer for yourself, just read more.

Ugh, I mean it looks really cute and if I never had read or fallen in love with the books, then I might have gotten more excited than bummed.
I don't understand how Suze will fit in.
I guess I'm worried that the plot is going to stink since it does not seem true to the books.
OH, and I hope that isn't Luke, who knows fashion?
But, Isla Fischer is adorable in it and I will go see it nonetheless.
1I've read the first 4 of the 5 books, but am not in love with the character. I think taking her British accent away is a huge mistake. It actually looks kinda crappy. I might Netflix it :-/
2i'm treating this as a completely different movie. first reason, is because it's not entirely true to the books and i hate that. second, the trailer was way too adorable to pass this movie up.
3I'm going to watch it for Isla Fisher. It is disappointing that they stripped away her British accent and put her in NYC instead of London. Where is the fun in that, esp that Isla Fisher has an accent naturally. *sigh*
4No thanks. I cannot stand Isla Fisher
5I like some chick-lit, but the Shopaholic series is horrible. I love Isla and for her sake I hope they make her character more likeable. In the books, I find the character very annoying. She just came across as having zero redeeming qualities...
6i am excited for the movie! i dont even care that its not gonna be EXACTLY like the books. i mean they've gotta fit SO much into it that there's bound to be differences. until you all mentioned it, i didnt even notice her british accent wasnt there!!!! i suppose thats because she never really had one in my head. i just read the books using my own american accent, lol.
either way the movie still looks really cute. the part at the beginning where she's talking about the "magic cards" had me cracking up. cant wait!!!
7I've never read any of the Shopaholic series, but am TOTALLY looking foward to the movie, CAN'T WAIT!!
8I've read every book in the series and they are some of my fav books. I really love Becky's character and what she learns about herself and others over the series . . I'm already disappointed with the movie version (what we've seen so far), accent, location, and also those ridiculous outfits! The book didn't imply to me that Becky dressed ridiculously, she just shopped a lot! I hate that they are making her so bimbo-ish, it's not the Becky I was ready about. I will see it though, and Isla is adorable.
9It looks like fun
10never read the book but i would like to see the movie.
11Loved the trailer , a must see for me.
12I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the shopaholic series, so right off the bat I know that the movie won't be everything I'm hoping for- that's to be expected. And I hate those crazy outfits and the fact that Becky will be american, its not at all like the book. BUT, I do love Isla Fischer so there's some hope of me liking it. I'll have to be like juiceee and pretend the two are completely different stories and characters. Bummer though, because I'd love to see them remake those books as well as they did Bridget Jones.
13i've never read the books, but isla is so adorable! i've always loved her in movies and i think she can pull it off
14looks good
15I can't watch your videos nor hear your audio files since I installed Firefox
16HipMom — what version are you using, and what kind of computer do you have (Mac/PC)? We all use Firefox in the office and can access video/audio files, so I'm not sure I can troubleshoot for you, but maybe our geeks can!
17This looks like it will be cute and Isla Fisher looks really funny, but since I have read all of the books, I don't know how I feel about it. I mean for her to not be British but American and for it to be set in America, I'm guessing NY, is kind of a let down. But I will probably still see it nonetheless. I am curious to see whether or not all of the books or a few of them will be combined into one movie or if the movie will focus just on the first book...we shall see I guess.
Oh, and who is playing Brandon? And is that guy who "speaks Prada" supposed to be Brandon?
18No thanks. This is totally not up my alley at all.
19It doesn't look that good to me, I'll wait for it to come out on dvd
20I have a hard time really liking most of Sophie Kinsella's main characters.
The way the stories are written make these woman out to be ditzy liars, which isn't appealing to me.
It's the type of movie my sister will be all over so I may end up seeing it with her.
21I keep meaning to read this book, but the movie looks cute enough. I like Isla, so I'll probably check it out.
22I would probably have watched this anyway, because I'm a sucker for the occasional chick flick (and Hugh Dancy). And I'm actually okay with it not being like the book. I love Shopaholic, but after that first book she keeps repeating the SAME mistakes over and over. She never learns.
23I love Isla Fisher but I think she's Australian not British.
24I'm sorry but I won't be seeing this movie.
I LOVE the books--and Becky IS a brit. Making her American is like making Bridget Jones American! It's just plain wrong!!!!!!!!!!
This is not the shopaholic series if it is set in America!
I love Sophie's books but I cannot support this redic excuse for a movie!
25I love Isla and shopping, so those two make me wanna see it.
26I love Isla Fisher and the trailer was pretty cute, so I'll definitely check out this movie when it is released.
27Oh, and I love Hugh Dancy. And this line "You speak Prada?" LOL.
28I am nervous about the movie because I loved the books so much. To me movies are never as good as the books they are patterned after. Regardless, I will probably get a couple girls together and go see the movie.
29I thought the trailer was cute but Hugh Dancy just isn't Luke for me.
30I've read all the books, and this movie doesn't look true to them at all...
31If I hadn't read the books, this movie would be right up my alley. Alas, I have read and adored the books and this looks really bad.
32*Love* the sample sale scene! Hilarious
33No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This "Rebecca Bloomwood" doesnt look anything like tha from the books.
34I love the books. At first I was a bit disappointed in the preview being such a big Beck Bloomwood fan but it does look really good. Isla Fisher is great. I loved the credit card in ice clip. Too bad we have to wait till next year.
35i adore the books but it doesn't look like i will be disappointed with the film
she
is supposed to have brown hair, but whatever. and that is pretty much Luke to me
36oh... right, except that they made her American. wtf!
37I will not be going to the theater for this however I will rent it once it comes out. Looks like a cute & funny film however I can think of other films I would rather spend the cash to see. I do look foward to watching this since they were shooting in my hometown for some scenes.
38Sorry, Isla Fisher is very cute but I don't think she's a good actress.
And I wish films like that would stop making us women look superficial, loud, shrieky, dumb.
As far as chit-lick goes I thought the books were pretty enjoyable and entertaining, but I'll skip the film!
39It's actually NOT fake Finnish! The Finnish guys is saying: "Hello, hello, it's nice to meet another Finn here."
40she is cute but how the HELL can they make her not british?!! so much of who her character is in the books is tied to her being a brit. i like others liked the books a little too much i guess to enjoy the movie. i never understand why they change weird stuff for movie versions when there is NO reason (hello! airplane instead of elephant in yaya sisterhood). but maybe i'm getting to wrapped up in details - high fidelity was amazing and i never thought that would work out americanized
41i dont agree with that guy playing luke. in the book luke was so confident and commanding. i pictured him to be a strapping man. not such a skinny, young dude.
42I've read the firts two books and I hate the film, mainly because of the clotes. She is supposed to have an incredibly good taste. Except for a misguided jumper and a skirt and shirt that looked like a waitress' in the second book, her good taste is constantly present. She would NEVER wear the clothes above.
43Also, I agree with the posters above: that's not Luke at all. My idea of Luke is more like Michael Vartan.
44I wanna see this movie. I thought Isla Fisher was adorable in Definitely, Maybe.
45The "Shopaholic" series is one of my guilty pleasures -- fast, funny reads that I find quite entertaining. Def have to treat this as a completely different story. Trailer looks cute and funny, something I may be able to bring my daughter to, but thats not Becky Bloomwood from the books.
46I tried to read the books and found them completely silly (and I tend to like chick lit). Isla is a great actress and really likable but this movie looks awful.
47Ugh, looks like the movie totally butchered the books. It HAS to be set in England for everything to work. All the fringe characters (Suze, Tarquin, Becky's parents, Janice & Martin) are quintessentially British. And I agree with the comments above that Hugh Dancy doesn't make a good Luke.
48totally love isla (obviously) but i wasn't at all happy when i heard about this movie...
shopaholic books are awesome but isla isn't rebecca- kinda like how scarlett j was SO not annie in nanny diaries
i'll see if anyway because of my love for the 2!
49isla is too adorable, but it seems like many ppl don't think she suits the role and that the movie won't be as good as the book. maybe i'll try to read the book sometime.
