Welcome back, Gossip Girl fans! If you weren't still basking in your Labor Day vacation last night, then you too watched the awesome and mostly hilarious premiere episode of season two like I did. True to form, the writers of Gossip Girl packed in a whole lot of plot, and the back-and-forths were at times mind-boggling. After covering the slow, deliberate Mad Men line delivery, it was a jolt to the system to hear these kids talk a mile a minute.

I would do a bit of season one recapping here, but the first three minutes of last night's episode were pretty darn comprehensive, so let's skip it and get to the good stuff. Blair's new man! Nate's Summer fling with a married lady! Dan's writer's block (try not to laugh) and new nickname courtesy of Gossip Girl herself! Jenny's internship and inexplicably awful Devil Wears Prada boss! Chuck's Chuckness! Ready, set, read more.
- First of all, the production quality as a result of shooting in the Hamptons was pretty extraordinary. Some of the scenes were gorgeous, including the shot of Chuck and Blair at Serena's grandmother's house under a grove of trees and the final scene of Dan and Serena on the beach with the fireworks overhead and the adirondack chairs off to the side near the bonfire. So picturesque it was scrumptious.
- I'm still laughing at the way Dan and Serena coped with their break-up. Serena was essentially "sitting Shiva," as Blair observed, and Dan was dating a different girl every night, according to Jenny. Really? Dan the player (or "Playboy," as Gossip Girl would say) is hilariously far-fetched and silly.
- When Blair accused Serena of sitting around moping all Summer watching The Closer I laughed . . . and then felt lame because that's essentially what I did. Crap!
- So, ever since Dan was published in The New Yorker (ha!) he is a hot young talent and spent the Summer interning for his "literary idol."
- Nate's affair with the married lady: not much to say, other than we see his chest a lot, so yay?
- In grown-up news, Serena's grandmother is now on the side of good (helping Dan) and Rufus is on tour with his band and making fun of Jack Johnson. Glass houses, Rufus!
- You know, every heavy, unrequited love-type scene between Blair and Chuck had me baffled. Obviously when they're snapping at each other and scheming, it's a lot of fun, but when the music slows down and Blair sheds a tear, I kept thinking, "Um, am I supposed to feel something here?" Because I didn't feel a thing. Not one thing.
- Speaking of snapping at each other, Blair was full of newly minted Chuck-isms including: "Damn that mother-Chucker" and "Chuck Bass-tard." Language!
- Another amazing line from Blair came when Serena's lifeguard date showed up to take her out: "A honk instead of a knock? Did someone order a townie?"
- OK, when Blair's boy toy started talking in a British accent, I just about died of laughter. Then he said he was a Lord and I was done. So hilariously outrageous, it's hard not to love it.
- And finally, with the help of Eric, Jenny impressed Tinsley Mortimer with her style in front of her really mean boss.
So, here's a question: Did you feel like there were many, many moments that could have ended last night's episode and kept you coming back for more? I felt like right when Serena kissed Nate in front of Dan, they should have stopped right there. Or when Blair's guy said "I'm a Lord," it should have been boom — until next week! Essentially, it felt like two episodes to me, and just like that the Summer is over for the Upper East Siders. What do you think? Are you glad it's all tidied up before the kids head back to school in the city? Or do you think it was a little too breathless?

I loved it when James chewed out Blair for being a lying, using b*tch!
1it's so funny to me - i watched the very first episode of GG And didn't manage to catch the rest of the season, but i felt that it was necessary for me to tune in last night - so i did, and it was enjoyable.
i do like the twist about the 'boring' guy that she was with - i wonder how that's going to evolve during the season, and well - i liked seeing tinsley there too. that was a given that someone like her would show up and i'm glad that it worked out the way that it did.
i know that now i'll be tuning in again, more regularly - which is very shocking since i didn't care at all last season.
2I LOVED IT! I just didn't understand why he lied. He sees her trying to make Chuck jealous... yet stays with her. and the previews.... he doesn't want to introduce her to her family. Blair obviously cares for Chuck. But... he's so stubborn. It was A LOT! Would have kept us wanting more with any of those moments. I really wish Nate would have held out longer. Oh well. LOVE HIM SHIRTLESS.
3there was definitely a lot to take in but at the same time i ate it all up. but after seeing paparazzi pics of serena and blair fighting we know the story line won't be serene forever.
4my roommate's finace was forced to watch it with us... and when Lord Plot Devise started talking, he could not stop laughing. "Oh, I'm a liar. But I have a good reason. I'm a British Lord. And I crap cinnimon buns"
5I loved it.
And that Chuck Bass aka Ed Westwick is a SERIOUS hottie. He looked exceptionally hot in the Jitney scene!!!! His jawline is too die for!!!
6Didn't watch last season, but was compelled to watch last night. LOVED IT.
I am madly in love with Chuck.
7Loved all the info and it satisfied me enough to want to watch the next episode and not feel like the next week should get here sooner! I hate waiting but I hate cliffhangers even more!
8I just wish Chuck was a real person. He is sooooo Ryan Phillippe in Cruel Intentions.
The British lord thing was idiotic. As was the Vitamin Water product placement. And Nate's affair. And where was Lily??
9Silly but awesome. Cant wait for next week.
10Great episode... I will never complain about too much info in an episode because it is so much worse to watch an episode and feel like you wasted an hour bc you dont know any more than you did watching the previews!
11OMG, I can't believe I'm missing all of this... I live overseas now, and I'm dying to see what's happenig!!! Can't anybody post the new episodes on youtube or somethin'?
12Does anyone know a website that I could visit to watch this episode online?? I missed it last night!!! Thanks!
13I loved it! It was by far, the most entertaining, amusing, and satisfying Gossip Girl episode for me ever. The clothes were scrumptious too, like candy! Even the guys looked so fine.
14Loved loved loved it!! Chuck was hilariously awesome! I'm so happy that Serena & Dan got back together, I don't think that I could have dealt with a half of a season of pining & whining. But I agree with everyone about the Lord Bullcr*p story - so predictable! The only thing that could make that a twist is if he really ends up being a lord! And BTW, genvessel, I almost peed my pants!! "Oh, I'm a liar. But I have a good reason. I'm a British Lord. And I crap cinnimon buns" Heeheehee!!!
151. I ADORE Chuck, he is HOTNESS!!!! How he was trying to say "I love you" to Blair... I was nearly crying.
162. I am so relieved that Dan and Serena are back together.
3. I agree with you Buzz, it was so picturesque.
I LOVED it. Oh my god, I'm starting to become hysteric and write everything in big letters.
BLAIR looked incredible throughout that entire episode! I couldn't get over how good she looked. Her tan and her hair were glistening.
I'm glad Dan and Serena are back together. They make more sense than any other couple on the show. They need each other.
I'm not excited really for the whole Nate and an older woman thing. It's like they didn't have anything Nate could do so they put him into one of these stories..
17Oh and also- Jenny is just annoying. I preferred her not to be in this episode at all. I don't like her character in general though. She's way more scandalous and b*tchy in the books.
18i thought it was good overall but yes some parts just didn't make sense or add very much! the whole nate thing was a bit off. and the whole serena kissin ghim in front of dan was so predictable! i am glad her and dan are back together though cause they are even more annoying apart. the whole i'm a lord thing is so cliche haha. but i'm sure the drama with chuck and blair will be awesome. mother-chucker hahah awesome
19wow, it was so good last night. it was better than last nights hills episode. so yea, i liked it
20i don't have tv right now so i can't watch it so i am sooooooo glad that i am able to read your recaps cuz they were always so accurrate i totally shed tears last nite when i realized i can't watch it boo
21I loved this episode..it was so beautiful and sunny, my summer was nothing like that
The story lines were great, everyone looked hawt..I loved Blair she looked gorg. Serena's Grecian dress and hairstyle...just adorable...I want that dress!
Glad that Jenny played her cards right and put that Devil Loves Prada lady in her place.
22I loved the scenes between BLAIR and CHUCK. when he was about to cry? i watched that scene like four times through tivo. i only watch gossip girl to see those two. and yea, the scenery was absolutely gorgeous. if anyone needs to WATCH them ONLINE, go to www.sidereel.com and enter it in the search

24As usual, Blair looked gorgeous. And I have to say I love Serena's dress in the white party. And little J! My my, you showed her (meany boss) that eggshells rock and catches the attention of the likes of Tinsley Mortimer. Haha. And Dan, sometimes I think he's just so full of himself, his character annoys me. And Nate! Goodness. I'm at a loss for words. Finally the mystery of why you've been running around almost naked is finally revealed. And Mr. I'm Chuck Bass can't say I love you. Basshole. lol
There were a lot that was shown on GG today and I have to say, I loved it! I didn't feel overwhelmed at all! I feel like I deserve this because I waited patiently (patiently? Yeah right. More like rabidly) for the new season and for missing out on possible and more episodes during the writers' strike!
25I'm so glad that Blair and Chuck are done (well, for now). I cannot stand him. I don't find him hot, I don't find his character edgy or cool; he's just totally irritating to me.
26I must admit, I'm totally in love with Chuck Bass. But I've always found arrogant bastards to be charming.
27OK, late to the party but I just watched this and... wow! I almost cried laughing when that guy turned out to be "British" - I felt like I'd turned on the TV in the middle of the day and caught some Olsen twins movie. Yet, it was genius - didn't make me love it any less.
I know he splits opinion but I adore Chuck. He's so OTT, with every line said in such a dastardly manner, that I can't help but laugh at the character. Seriously, he's awesomeness.
Anyway, enough gushing - loved this episode and so glad it's back. Sad that most of my fellow Brits won't see it for a few months though...
28Ok, So I totally missed last season but heard the clothes and attitudes were tres chic so I was compelled to rent last season so for the last week I have been watching like 3 or 4 episodes a day and I am totally hooked!!!
Almost died when the guy turned out to be british but loved it more when Tinsley Mortimer made her guest appearance and made Jenny look great in front of her boss Priceless!!
I'm totally hooked and can't wait for next week I do really love Chuck Bass and his Basstardly attitude!!
29yessssss!!! glad this is back and not too dramatic to start off with, i liked the over the top production too, but hey, was that an ikea EXPEDIT behind Chuck at the bar (i should know, i have one =:) ) and the Lord and his accent! very laughable. i think this was Chuck's episode though, and about time too!
30i adore this show.
while yes, some stuff is quite ridic. (the lord for example.) it is great in many other ways.
my thoughts:
- on dan being playboy:
no no no! why? i get that he was trying to heal, but had this been a girl, she'd be labled a slut. and that is just NOT dan humphrey.
- on chuck/blair:
GOD! this seriously made my chest ache! i love them and so desperately want them together. but at the same time stretching out the heartbreak and bickering could be great! look at pacey/joey on dawsons creek. fabulous story line there.
- on nate:
am i the only one who could care freaking less about this cat?
- on jenny:
31same on how i feel about nate. maybe if they gave her a decent story line...??
OMG, that British accent
The best part about last night's episode was NO VANESSA! Yay! I'm soooo happy GG is back!
32Anyone book fans out there?
Catch that Tinsley is a key part of Jenny's spin off "The It Girl?"
I'm just upset by all the differences and how they butchered the books. They weren't that fantastic, but you almost have to ignore the canon to enjoy the show.
Anyway, Gossip Girl is one of those shows that I hate to love.
33Chuck Bass is LOVE! He is *such* a hottie. Oh how I've missed his snark. He and Blair together are perfection. And apart they are also perfection. Love to see them playing off each other.
Wait, were there other characters in the show? heh.
Gimme some more Chuck.
34The Tinsley in "The It Girl" is a different person, not actually Tinsley Mortimer!
The fact that Jay McInerney guest starred in the episode, including reading a part from one of his actual books, totally made the episode for me! What an apt guest star
35adorKablefae, I'm a fan of the book and I agree. They totally butchered everything. I mean, I guess it makes sense to try to make it more shocking but I, for one, was kind of looking forward to Schwartz' INTERPRETATION of the book, and not a totally different thing altogether.
36I've been reading the books and while I find they're very different from the show, I think that each one is awesome in their own right. I mean, they got the characters mostly right, they're just putting them into different relationships and circumstances.
37Aw man I feel so late to the party...Ugh I was at college all day.
Anyway, I agree with Buzz about this episode. I thought it was pretty good, I loved the fashion as usual (Serena's white ensemble was to die for) and the witticism, but I feel like this episode packed SOOOO much plot into one little episode. I have to say I'm finally onboard the Blair-Chuck train now, even though I still think Chuck is skeevy and I won't forget when he tried to rape Jenny in the series premiere. Does no one else remember that?
Dan was not believable as a playboy and his reconciliation with Serena was a little too quick.
Nate with an older woman? Umm ok then. But wtf she is the mom of Blair's boyfriend?? AHHHH.
Jenny's storyline was kinda meh, but I liked how she outwitted her boss by showing off her designs at the White Ball even though her boss didn't think she would be there.
38Having devoured season 1 on DVD in approximately 48 hours I can say this was a nice Labor Day goodie. And that this episode re-affirmed what I had felt from episode 4 of season 1....Blair and Chuck are the 'money shot' when it comes down to the best part of the show. Everyone else is lovely-marvelous and such BUT Chuck and Blair make the show. Looking forward to their future misbehaviors.
As for Lord Marcus...his 'coming' out was so bad till it was good.
39AHHHH!!!! I LOVED IT!! Last season, Chuck was one of my least favorite characters. But after last nights episode, I LOVE HIM!!!!! Blair looked gorgeous, as usual. And, am I the only one that noticed Dan in his wifebeater!? HELLO!? CAN U SAY HOT?!?! All in all, I thought it was a great beginning to another fantastic season!
40Okay honestly I loved the episode. It was hilarious but I actually was talking to the tv several times. I was so mad at Chuck, it was as Blair said it, "3 words and 8 letters". yeah maybe he was afraid to say it but its kinda hard to feel bad for him when you're rooting for this couple at every moment. I'm sorry you didn't see the chemistry but sooner or later you might. I think Blair stayed with the lord only because he compared her to Chuck and she didn't want her to be compared to someone so manipulative. My favorite line of the night was from Eric when he found out who Chuck's got on speed dial, "he's got a P.I. on speed dial" Hilarious, right? And I did love it when Blair asked Chuck for one good reason and, "I"m Chuck Bass, isn't good enough." Ahhh! It would have been good enough for me sadly. But I'm rooting for these two to be together at some point this season.
41Another great quote, "The only thing worse than being with Dan Humphrey is mourning Dan Humphrey."
Okay, I have to admit I was not and still am not entirely a GG fan, but last night's ep. was tre awesome. So much better than the few ep. from last season I caught. & I can't help but admit, I too love Chuck. PopUK said it best: He is dastardly (as he exemplified in season one's finale but dosh garnit I love him.
42ladies ya'll need to BACK OFF, of Chuck Bass, cause that boy is MINE!!! omg i hated this bass-tard till last night, completely fell in love with him. He sooo HOT, funny how i just noticed
43season 1 was extremely good! but then again the O.C hitted off the same way as GG. so i hope things get spicy and have more gossip in it, but the on and off thing with dan and serena has been a little to much. I saw a spoiler from episode 3 and i was very disappointed! But i loved the episode for the nice clothes and blair & chuck: great conversations! hilarioius!
44i can't wait for more!!!!
without letting out a big spoiler for the books...
i just really hope that schwartz and team dont go the route that dan goes in the books. that would be....just sad.
45Okay I know....way late to share my two cents but I've been in Hawaii and missed out on my Sugar time!
Yes, Chuck is amazing! My eyes are glued to the screen when he's on! HOTT!!!
I think Serena can do better than Dan. Yes, I said it! Go back and watch the first season over again... he is not nice to her at all- so egotistical for a Humphrey. We'll see. I still think he is a doll.
Blair looked so pretty with her hair highlighted and all those great floral prints. Makes me want to spend a summer in the Hamptons. Lucky. Does it seem like she has gotten a bit soft?
I am super glad to see Eric and Jenny friends again. Love those two characters. Nice and sane.
Serena's grandma thing was confusing. Eh oh well.
I want to see what happens with Lily and Bart and Rufus.
I'm dying for epi 2!!!
46um I love chuck now.
so so much.
I FELT SO AWFUL FOR HIM WHEN HE AND BLAIR WERE HAVING THAT TALK.
I thought the lord thing was a tad overboard.
I could see blair thinking, "sh*t! a lord! I messed this one up!"
haha.
serena and dan made me happy.
nate and the married woman was a little wtf.
hey, where's vanessa?
47Heres a link to the full episode

Enjoy
48Oh my lord, can I just say that Tinsley Mortimer is the WORST ACTRESS EVER. Please woman, stick to being a lady who lunches.
49I LOVED it all!! I do feel something whenever there is that moment between Blair and Chuck though....it was kind of heart-breaking when he just couldn't say..."I LOVE YOU"....which I guess I would assume Blair wanted to hear. Everything is just rather entertaining.
