John Lennon's life looks like it's heading for the big screen. The Hollywood Reporter writes that a biopic called Nowhere Boy is in the works, to be directed by visual artist Sam Taylor-Wood and written by Matt Greenhalgh, who most recently wrote the Ian Curtis biopic Control.
According to the Reporter, the movie will film in Lennon's hometown of Liverpool and focus on his early years:
Greenhalgh's script details the story of Lennon as a lonely teenager growing up as his aunt and the mother who gave him up fight for his love. His only escape is music, art and his fateful friendship with Paul McCartney.
Casting is reportedly underway now for the lead role — which of course brings about the crucial question: What actors could you see playing the young John Lennon? And how about prefame Paul? (For an irreverent take on the question, there's always Paul Rudd as John and Jack Black as Paul, as seen in Walk Hard . . . but I'm pretty sure that's not the tone this particular film is going for.)

What about James Mcavoy?
1James McAvoy is my first choice as well.

6I don't see the resemblance between James McAvoy and John Lennon though he's a wonderfully talented actor and I'm sure he would do the role justice. I think Edwards Norton would be a great fit in the role: he's another great actor and the resemblance is undeniable.

James McVoy would be a good choice, but why would Jack Black be a good choice to play Paul? Jack looks nothing like Paul. Someone needs to find another actor to play Paul, because Jack wouldn't cut it as Paul Macartney.
It depends on if his sons Sean and Julian would want to play their father in a movie or not. Julian Lennon is no longer interested in the entertainment industry. From what I hear he is taken a different career point. As for John's other son Sean, his main focus is the music industry then in films.
9Actually I do see a resemblance between McVoy and Lennon. I have seen Lennon without his glasses, so James does look a bit like him.If they want to find an actress to play John's first wife Cynthia, they should ask Kate Winslet to play her. Kate would be a great choice.
10Sean or Julian hands down. They are the only ones who wouldn't sully John. I am a beatles fanatic. FANATIC. lol, and Black would be abysmal as a serious paul. This is a hard movie to cast as these men are icons.

They should follow the same model that they used to make that movie and hire lesser known (yet VERY talented) British actors. NO American should play any John! Anton Corbijn also did a beautiful job directing. I hope that he gets to helm this project as well.

23I love The Beatles more than anything else, so it's hard for me to choose who could play John Lennon. I think James McAvoy would be the best choice, even though I still think he's not the perfect choice.
Jim Sturgess for Paul for sure... and definitely no to Johnny Depp. I think he would ruin it. Not that I'm not a fan of Depp, I just don't think he has the chemistry for it.
24Dhani Harrison should play George obviously not only because he's his son, but they look exactly alike.
25I know that Justin Timberlake is a perfect choice to play this role. Whether you personally like his persona right now doesn't matter. He has the variables to portray Lennon.
