Last night's episode of Project Runway was surprisingly entertaining (I figured it would be hard to follow the drag queen episode) — not because of the challenge, per se, but because Tim Gunn shamed the designers right off the bat, reminding them of how pathetically they performed in the very first challenge that required innovative thinking. And thank goodness Tim lit that fire under their you-know-whats, because otherwise we would have seen a boatload of beige seat belt pencil skirts coming down that runway, which makes me fall asleep just typing about it.

As it happened, we were only subjected to a small percentage of seat belt skirts (and one unfortunate seat belt dress) while a good portion of the designers used this challenge as a moment to stand out. So far this season I've been unsure about which designers I would want to see at Bryant Park, and this Saturn hybrid commercial car parts challenge helped me understand who among this group has taste and vision and who just . . . doesn't. To see which designers I have a new respect for and what I thought of one designer's mental meltdown, read more.
Before I run through the looks, here are my thoughts from last night:
- I'm glad Korto's jacket was such a hit, because Terri was so obnoxious during this challenge! It's just really bad form to point and laugh at your competitors like that.
- Speaking of Terri, her outfit was really boring to me, which was disappointing after seeing that amazing samurai drag queen outfit she made last week.
- When Tim told Kenley her model had dropped out, I wondered if the periodical model disappearances on Project Runway were due to illness or something? But then Jerell rang in with models taking other jobs and how they have to make a living too, and I got it.
- OMG! Stella's boyfriend! I nearly fell out of my chair because a) his name is Ratbones and b) they want to design clothing together under a label named "Zotis & Bones." I really want to go play pool or throw darts with Ratbones and Stella. I think that would be an amazing way to spend an evening.
- Keith! We'll discuss further, but my goodness, man, pull yourself together. He was a complete emotional mess last night, and when his model sat down and ripped her skirt I felt so bad for her. Like, "Run, girl, cause he is going to cut you!" bad.
As for the best and worst:
- Jerell — Guest judge Rachel Zoe called his futuristic get-up "intricate," and while the overall look was over-the-top, the judges were impressed because it worked together well.
- Blayne — Michael Kors hit the nail on the head when he said it looked like a car wash, and the fit at the top of his seat belt dress was wretched. Who's that flattering on? Nobody. I continue to be unimpressed with Blayne.
- Korto — Despite Terri's insults in the work room, the judges were completely enamored with her woven seat belt jacket. Rachel said several times she would walk right out of the building in that jacket. I like Korto and think she is one of the few designers with a specific point of view that she brings to the runway each challenge.
- Leanne — I was so impressed with Leanne, and so were the judges, who made her the evening's big winner. Her skirt was awesome, and I could see it on a red carpet. I think Leanne is emerging as a serious contender for the finals — what do you think?
- Stella — Uh, what? What was she thinking? Well I guess we know she wanted to do something besides hammering and grommeting but clearly she should stick to what she does best: leatha!
- Keith — Poor, poor Keith. He was just was all kinds of neurotic last night. I know I should feel some sympathy for the guy, but his excuses on the runway were too much, forcing Michael to deliver a smackdown lecture on taking criticism. Plus his dress was seriously plain, and the back was horrendous.
So did you think it was Keith's time to go? Did you feel bad for him, or do you think he'll never get anywhere in the fashion biz if he doesn't grow a thicker skin? Which look was your favorite? Did you want Korto to win or were you happy for Leanne? Any idea who you'd like to see in the finale yet? And how great was it to see Laura Bennett?

I did not feel bad for Keith at all. He might have had a couple decent garments thus far, but the standouts have been his misses, not his hits. When he misses, he misses big time. From the toiletpaper dress
to last nights. At first I though, "eh, not horrible but certainly
not as creative design-wise as the others" Then when the model turned around to reveal the back - whoa! The messy-mesh, unfinished disaster had to go. Not to mention his "poor me" attitude.
Glad he's gone.
I love Korto, and I agree she brings a very specific point of view. I feel like you could line up almost all of the garments she has made thus far and she could have a collection (with the exception of maybe the drag-queen challenge, though I liked what she did there too.)
Leanne is so quiet but she's really shaping up I think. I'm starting to like this season more and more because of the hidden talent that is slowly emerging.
Right now I think it might be Jerell, Korto and Leanne in the finals. Maybe Kenley, maybe Joe. Suede has only impressed me once so far with his little red/white woven dress. I still don't get what his style is though.
1So many of these men have a hard time properly fitting boobs. Even Jerell's outfit made the model look saggy.
Keith deserved to go. After Daniel left, he was the least talented one there. I'm guessing Suede is next...or maybe Blayne. I hope Stella stays because she is funny and not a total jerk like some of the others.
And I couldn't believe when he got mad at the model for sitting down. How exactly did he expect her to get her hair and makeup done standing up? Then he was like "don't breathe."
Dude, if you can't make a skirt that fits the size 0 models you have no place in the fashion industry.
2the back of Keith's dress reminded me of the first outfit that Blayne made with the random mish-mash of grocery store items. The judges let THAT horrid mess through and yet they criticize Keith for something similar? Not that Keith didn't deserve to go. Whiney! I was surprised that everybody loved the big ole seat belt coat. I realize that a lot of work went into weaving the pieces together, but... eh.
Jerrell is doing some really great stuff and so is Leann. I think they could make it to the finals.
3I loved Koto's coat dress. It was so intricately done with the basket weaving technique I definitely think she should have won the challenge. I think the judges have been sleeping on her, because a couple of her designs should have been winners but I think she has yet to win one challenge. Leanne's dress was cute too and very well made, but I guess its all a matter of preference. But for Rachel Zoe to say she wants to walk out of the room wearing your design I think that should be a winner.
4I loved Leanne's design! It's hard to imagine she made that dree out of car interior Keith was too focused on what he thought the judges were looking for, and their critique of his outfit the prior week. It was time for him to go. MAN, I wish Stella would just get kicked off already. I don't know how she's made it this far. She has horrible taste.
5dress*
6I loved Korto's coat. And I liked Leanne's dress. That was about it. Terri and Kenley both need to be cracked across the face with a hard palm.
7didn't Korto win the time before the drag queens? I thought she did. Anyways- I like her style so far and I agree that you could put most of her challenges together so far and she could have a collection. Leanne is hit or miss to me but when she hits its phenomenal. I loved the dress last night, and that skirt she made a few episodes back was awesome too. If she gets more consistent she might make the finals. I wasn't all that impressed with Jerell's on its own- but compared to most of the others it was good. Terri not only annoys me but I thought her outfit was trashy looking. I think Stella will probably go next- though she doesn't annoy me as much as Blayne, so I would like him to go!
8my favorite is leanne! i like her a lot. she's been pretty quiet but i think she is very talented
9Buzz, I can't believe you didn't say anything about Suede! What is UP with him and all of the dead people watching him???
10Korto's coat was awesome & I while I think she should have won, Leanne's dress was pretty awesome, too. Terri should have kept her comments to her self. Jerrel was hi-lari-ous:"She has 2 faces & 4 patterns"-LOVES IT! Keeping my fingers crossed for a Jerrell, Korto & Leanne finale!
11*yeah, Korto won the Olympic challenge
12Oh, I forgot: KENLEY! Why the whining? Why?
13RCLdesigngirl - Ha! Yes Suede is always looking up to the sky at those loved ones he's lost isn't he? I guess I left him alone this round because, if I'm not mistaken, he didn't slip into the third person last night! That's the kind of behavior I want to reward with positive reinforcement you know?
14PinkLuva512 Korto won the Olympic challenge and RCLdesigngirl I was thinking the same thing about Suede too!!! But as Buzz points out he did refrain from using the 3rd person for the last 2 episodes, so we can let the dead people watching over him thing slide, lol.
Last night's epi was pretty good. The season was off to a rocky start but it seems to be getting better.
I hope that Korto is one of the final 3. I would actually like to see her win it. I think Leanne might emerge as a finalist too. She was off to a rocky start as well with that whole brown dress with the loopy swirly stuff on it, but she has done a great job taking the judges' feedback and improving on her designs. I think its time for another female to win Projrun, so I'm really pulling for the females this season. Well except for Kenley. She gets on my nerves so I'm ready for her to go!
By the way, I wonder where Nina was last night...did they say why she wasn't there? I don't remember...
15I loved last nights episode. I was however disgusted that Blyane keeps getting passed over for elimination. He hasn't made anything interesting or well since he has been there. I did like the look he did for Brooke Shields but where would Blyne have been without Leanne as his teammate. Keith wasn't great but he was way better than Blyan. I like blyane but he simply isn't a good designer. He needs to go.
As for if the winner last night made impression on me...nope. Leanne won't make it to the end I believe. She would have to really keep on the path she is on. I adore Koto and although I didn't like her jacket, I am not a jacket person anyway, she is awesome and she is gonna keep wowing us. I feel it.
16at this point, i still dont have a favorite because all of them are equally as annoying.
Korto- while talented the girl is just dull on a stick.
Terri- also talented but acts 12 rolling on the floor and laughing? get up and make a nice outfit. oops never mind your outfit stunk this time around.
Kenley- We saw the innovative air filter trick in the first episode, because you used a sharpie doesnt mean its diff.
Suede- boring really, is there anyone left alive in his family? No wonder he uses the first person, makes him feel like there is someone else there.
Blayne- I cant stand his designs, i was yelling at the TV last night "BOOB AREA!"
Stella -"Im gonna think outside da box on dis one" whatever i hear the people who live under the bridge calling you , they want thier striped pants back
jerrell- He is probably my underdog here, I like him sorta, his v neck chest bearing shirts are disgusting but i forgive him because he is funny
the straight guy- goatee man, whatever his name is, he is boring
17oops i forgot Leanne.....but than again who wouldnt.
18Buzz-- Suede did use the 3rd person once last night but blink and you'd have missed it. Unfortunately, it seems he's traded in the 3rd person for the phrase "whackadoodle." He must have said this at least 4 times last night.
19Terri always seems upset and pissed when she's not announced the winner. Get over it. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't...at least you're not getting auf'd.
Korto's was a beautiful coat, but I really did like Leanne's. It was really different and innovative.
We do have to give credit to Blayne...I don't recall hearing one "holla at your boy" or "licious" last night. heh
20I won't go so far as to call Terri annoying, as we don't know the true context nor the relationship of her and Korto.
21I have to say (and I'm probably the only one) but I'm not impressed with Korto. A seatbag coat has been done before; not in PR but in the fashion industry, in general. I don't know, I don't really like Korto's attitude most of the time. She just rubs me the wrong way.
Leanne, although reserved, has really gotten better over the course of the show, which is really great to see.
I'm quite blah still on the rest of the peeps. Very happy that Keith left, though. His rat tail was driving me crazy. Did no one else see it? Good Lord.
22Keith deserved to go. It's one thing to think you're a strong competitor and truly think you're best, but to say that you DESERVE it more than everyone else? Not cool! And clearly, it wasn't true, but his designs have been "meh" at best.
Stella and Blayne need to be the next to go.
I've put a lot of mental stock in Kenley and Leanne, so we'll see how that turns out!
23I think last night's episode was my favorite of this season of Project Runway. The challenge forced them to be actually innovative and I was so impressed with a lot of their designs. I am really glad Leanne's dress won because it was FAB-U-LOUS! Jerell's was very interesting, but I wasn't a big fan of Korto's jacket. It was well-made, but its not my style. Keith's ensemble was so boring and his whining was so insufferable that I was glad to see him go home. I think Leanne, Jerrell, and Korto should be the ones going to Bryant Park but I think Kenley will somehow find her way in there instead of one of the previous three I just mentioned.
24Jerell is my favorite on the show! I would wear anything of his.
25Keith totally deserved to go. I was so sick of him, his outfit was awful last night! When the model turned around I was like whhaaaaat??? Korto is my favorite, she has kind of a bland personality but I love her designs. Jerrell is another one of my favorites. Suede needs to go and so does Blayne....both annoying and not even very good. Stella doesn't do that great of work either but I like her as a person. This season is kind of boring me. Hopefully it gets better, but I don't think it will.
26I think that unlike some other reality shows, Project Runway is on of those shows that is highly credible and after a certain point you just can't rely on the person's personality. True enough, they obviously cast somewhat based on personalities(Blayne, Seude etc...) but when it boils down to it, it's about a great designer. And when a designer is making pieces for theri collection, that's a reflection of their personality. So, just because a person may not be bubbly or may come off as bland, people aren't looking at this opportunity as a means of trademarking a catch phrase-they take it seriously. And on that not, Go Korto, Leanne & Jerrell!
27Final Three Predictions:
Korto, Kenley, Leanne
Girls take it all!!!! Just saying ...
28I'm SO happy Keith is gone! Never liked him.
I liked Leanne's a TON (I love that balooning hip sillouette) but Korto's was out-of-the-park stunning!
Poor Kenley (my absolute favorite) Shannon was gorgeous!
At this rate I definitely think Korto for the final 3, but other than that, I'm not sure.
