I ain't knocking the effort here — I think it's fantastic that so many celebrities use their fame to try and get people to care about things like presidential elections. And offering an incentive for registering to vote — as Sheryl Crow is offering a free digital copy of her album Detours — is a cool thing to do.
That said, would a free Sheryl Crow album motivate you to register to vote (if you weren't already registered)? If not, whose album would be a good incentive?

I'm already registered, and I have been since I turned 18 - I have a polictical science degree, so I'm a dork and I actaully think voting is fun.
But hey, I always like free stuff too.
1I've been registered since I turned 18. Hopefully all of your responses will be similar. It shouldn't take a give away to get people to care about voting. Voting is a privilege we should feel grateful for. People in many countries don't even have the option to vote. Buzz, You should add "already registered" to your list of potential answers so we can get a number for those responses.
2I'm already registered. I hate that people need incentive to do what's right.
3I registered when I turned 18 because I want to vote, not just because I want to get a free album. I don't even like Sheryl Crow that much anyway, but maybe it would have enticed me to register (if I hadn't already) if it had been a different artist. I can't think of any musician off the top of my head, though, that has a new album that I would want to buy.
4There should be another option for people who would vote even without receiving a free album. If you need a free album to get you to vote, maybe you shouldn't be voting in the first place

5to be honest - i don't think that any free album from any artist would convince me any more to vote. i can understand the goal of doing it - but $20 isn't going to buy my vote - that's for sure.

12Nope. Motivation should come from your belief in a candidate and what they represent and not from a celebrity.
13No way. Each time I registered (I moved) it was out of sheer laziness. I had to stop by the DMV when I was 18, so I filled out the form there, and then just last month I moved and a coworker had a stack of registrations that she passed around the office. It's not hard to access registration forms, but I think people just need to remember that. I seriously don't think most people aren't voting because they aren't getting something out of it; but rather because they procrastinated registering or forgot to.
Also: in NYS I was not really that excited to vote in the state elections unless I really liked a candidate, or maybe the senate race. In Cali, what with the propositions on the ballot, everyone is SO much more excited to vote, because they actually can help decide big issues. I think that system would excite people more than a CD.
