Apparently there's enough meat on the bones of this self-help book to make a whole romantic comedy — or at least Hilary Swank and her production company think so. Swank and her producing partner Molly Smith have signed on to turn Mireille Guiliano's French Women Don't Get Fat into a feature-length film.
Variety explains that the non-fiction book offers "insights on how French women manage to stay slim despite enjoying such calorie-rich fare as wine and pastries." There are a few plot details for the film version:
Swank may star in the adaptation that's being envisioned as a romantic comedy about a manager of champagne company who learns some tough life lessons which help her become the woman she's always wanted to be.
Have you read this book? Does this all make sense to you? And is it me, or is Swank not particularly well-suited for the romantic comedy genre?

I have read the book and it isn't your typical diet book. It is an interesting read. Making it into a movie is an interesting concept. Other than showing it's possible to eat a little of everything and not gain weight, it will all have to be made up. If I do recall correctly the author did work in the champagne industry and did have to have some decadent lunches. So I'm guessing somehow we will learn all things are okay in moderation?
Hillary Swank in a romantic comedy - I don't know. It probably won't be a box office smash. I know a lot of people think she is mannish looking but I don't really see it. I like her as a person.
1i've seen the book but i haven't read it yet. i think that i'll do that now so i can have my own sense of the story before it comes out in movie form since we can all agree that the book is usually better. i think that hillary being behind the project could be interesting. i like to see stars taking another role in movies sometimes. it's been happening a lot more frequenly these days.
2Hilary Swank? Please don't tell me they'll try to make her a French woman. She has a hard enough time playing a convincing woman.
3She wasn't convincing in P.S. I Love You. Well I don't know what she could do in a producing role. I fear for the adaptation.
4I guess that's what I get for asking the movie gods for "anything but another sequel or remake."
5They better get the movie out soon, because apparently French women DO get fat.

Ha!! Nitachequita — that is a fantastic find.
7I like Hillary in tough drama roles.. I don't think she's the light breezy, quirky type that really belongs in a romantic comedy... plus this adaptation looks like a bad idea.
8She is not good at romantic comedy, I didn't like her that much in P.S. I Love You.
9this is the dumbest idea ever. seriously. whats next? skinny b*tch: the movie? when bad things happen to good people: the movie? i guess we have finally entered the era of reality MOVIES... as if the tv shows weren't bad enough!!
10i'm totally with yesteryear. a movie about a diet book. wow, that sounds sooooo exciting!
