Following in the footsteps of Shirley Manson, Joss Stone has become the year's latest high-profile UK singer to join the cast of a major TV show. In this case, Stone has been cast as Anne of Cleves, the fourth wife of Henry VIII, in Showtime's The Tudors.
Anne of Cleves will be the second wife Henry takes in the show's upcoming third season, following Jane Seymour (Anita Briem). The show's first two seasons already took care of Katherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn.
According to the Hollywood Reporter,
A daughter of a German nobleman, Anne was betrothed to Henry in a marriage treaty between the Cleves Court and the king's chancellor after Henry was shown a portrait of her. Upon Anne's arrival to England, Henry was disappointed in her looks and soon found a legal way to have the marriage annulled.
Ouch!
Stone has apparently been looking to cross into acting for a while, but before this, the only role on her résumé was a small part in the 2006 fantasy film Eragon. So, do you think you'll be able to take the singer seriously as a royal wife-to-be?

Irregular Choice
I wouldn't want to play the girl who wasn't pretty enough for that fat, diseased King (I love the show but they do not portray Henry physically appropriately in my opinion), but good for her- She's so pretty in real life I wonder how they will make her look "disappointing"?
1Can she act?
2That's EXACTLY what i was thinking penguins268!!!!
3This is a horrible decision by the producers. Joss Stoned? Come on. The series WAS credible, until this. Although she is ugly enough to play Anne of Cleves.
4I love the show - it's so cheesy, and p0rn-y, and historically incorrect that it's fun to watch - but Joss Stone as Anna of Cleves? For real?
Were the producers smoking pot with Joss Stone while they made that decision?
Well, maybe she won't get any lines. Anne of Cleves didn't spoke anything but German.
5Ugh, I can't stand Joss Stone. Hopefully her part will be brief and she won't have to speak that much.
For some reason, I always thought the series was going to be about Henry VIII's relationship with Anne Boleyn but I guess it wouldn't last that long then.
6Boo!
7She is so wrong for Anne of Cleves!
8It sounds like a pointless stunt casting. They couldn't find a real actress
9love her!
10Joss Stone doesn't strike me as "disappointing", although a good makeup artist can fix that. I think Angelina Jolie would have been a better choice.
11She's fine. I have no beef with her. However, she's completely wrong for that part. COMPLETELY. They would have to make her look completely different and she would have to be a phenomenal actress.... I don't like it.
12Oh, I'm interested to see who they pick to be little Catherine Howard (after Anne).
13hmmm....the tudors usually has great actors on the show. i hope joss stone brings her A game!
14Why her??? i used to love this show, but now, i'm not so sure anymore...
15I just got finished watching the end of the second season on DVD last night. Nearly cried cause that was the end of Anne, who in my opinion, was the more interesting of all Henry's wives. Plus Natalie Dormer plays the hell out of that part. I know this series is not the most completely accurate but it's SO gripping. I mean it needs no making up cause this stuff really went down in history, so to speak. It's like Melrose Place/90210/Desperate Housewives meets "going medieval on your a##!"
16I cab't wait for season 3 to come out on DVD. I don't have Showtime >:/
well, i think she has enough talent to act especially in "eragon". actually i think that she has a great voice and she can act very well......
17in my opinion, she's a little bit pretty, i like her eyes, piercing and hair colour....
18I don't know Joss Stone and so had no preconceived ideas about her as Anne. She seemed uncomfortable as Anne which fit the part, so I feel she made a good Anne.
19Joss Stone occurred to be anexcellent choice. She is just as good at playing as Natalie Dormer, though completely different.
20I felt sorry for her when she realised Henry VIII wanted to annul their marriage.
I am positive we shall all hear more about Joss...
I thought Joss Stone portrayed Anne of Cleves really well, and she has silenced some of the begrudgers. I've no doubt that we will be seeing more of her as an Actress.
