The other day I found myself saying, "You know where I really want to visit? Greece." Why? Because of that lovable hot mess Mamma Mia! and the upcoming Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. Both are set (or, partially set, in Pants's case) on beautiful Greek islands with many sumptuous shots of white sands and sparkling azure oceans. It's like the ultimate product placement: I want to go where that movie is. Now.
Now Baz Luhrmann is fully embracing this idea of movie-as-travel-ad, and will help create a tourism ad campaign to go along with the release of his film Australia.
I've already shared a few movies that have inspired me to travel, so now it's your turn. Which movies have made you antsy to get out and see the world?

It's all about Greece for me now too. I'm thinking of going next year too, partially because of these movies!
1My friend has been to Santorini, where they filmed the Pants movie and she loved it. she went right before tourist season began and said it was awesome because there were no tourists there. plus the food was really good and her hotel was awesome and cheap. so if you go, go before tourist season begins.
2"Catch and Release" made me want to go to Boulder, Colorado.
3That early 80's movie "Summer Lovers" (Daryl Hannah) inspired me to go to Greece someday. It was beautiful! Well that, and everybody was always getting laid!
4The irony! I was watching the Sisterhood 2 commercial yesterday, and it did make me want to go to Greece. Someday...

7I just watched "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" and now I want to go back to Savannah, even though I was just there a few months ago.
"Amelie" makes me want to go back to Paris. "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" makes me want to call in sick and party in Chicago. "Sideways" makes me want to go back to California wine country. "Lost In Translation" makes me want to go to Tokyo. Shall I go on?
8Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants definitely inspired me to visit Greece one day. Mamma Mia just boosted the interest even more.

13when i lived in nothern ireland, all of the students told me that watching "the oc" made them want to move to america. i hated to break it to them that we don't all live like that.
i went to santorini after seeing 'sisterhood' and to kenya after seeing 'constant gardener'.
14I booked my trip to Santorini back in 2006 shortly after seeing Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 1! The trailers for the next one make me want to go back. The TV show "Life is Wild" made me want to go to Africa, does that count?
15Under the Tuscan Sun is mine as well. I have been to Rome and Venice before but really want to go to Tuscany. My husband told my daughter that he is taking her to the Vatican next summer when she does her communion. I told him that Tuscany is being added to that trip.
16I'm definitely on the same wavelength as you Buzz, I wanted to go to Greece after I saw the first Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and after seeing Mamma Mia, I want to go there even more. I also really wanted to see the region of Tuscany (especially the city of Cortona) after I watched Under the Tuscan Sun. Technically, I've been to Tuscany but I was in a tour group so we followed a very strict schedule and only made a brief stop there on the way to Rome. I also wanted to go to Rome because of Roman Holiday, but it wasn't quite what I pictured it to be (although it was still fun!).
17I also agree with World Trekker, I wanted to go to London and Paris after I saw What a Girl Wants and Amelie, even though I have already been to both of these places. But I really want to revisit there and actually spend more time exploring the cities because I so felt rushed the first time. I also really want to go to New York City, especially after seeing Sex and the City.

39every time i see a movie that's in paris or london i really want to go cause it makes me homesick (i went to school in both cities) but to date - i haven't made another trip there. i also agree with the folks who said 'under the tuscan sun' makes you want to travel - it romantisizes the area in italy and i really want to go for that reason only. ok, not only that reason but it still looks great.
40Harmonyfrance - Oh, I totally agree with you about French Kiss. I can't believe I forgot that one. It made me want to eat cheese, drink wine, and enjoy the scenery.
