It may be "just a jump to your left/ Then a step to your right," but I can't help but think that this might be a giant step to the back. That's right, news surfaced today that a The Rocky Horror Picture Show remake is in the works. The MTV network is partnering with Lou Adler, who produced the 1975 film, for a remake that will feature the original screenplay of Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien, with the possibility of a new song or two.
As someone who is a big fan of the original film and the stage production (yes, I saw Luke Perry as Brad!) this news makes me a little sad, especially as it's coming from the network that brought us Carmen: A Hip Hopera. Regardless, the original is such a cult classic, and Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, and Meatloaf are so iconic in their respective roles. Seriously, who else but Tim Curry could sing "Sweet Transvestite?" Alan Cumming perhaps? How do you feel about this news? Are you ready to do the time warp again?

Love the original film and I don't see any reason for a remake. Also, what's the point, if they're even using the original screenplay?

7having actually went to the theatre 200 plus times to see this film, and been a member of the "cast" (a transylvanian)I am very upset they are remaking this movie, especially MTV, because they obviously have no respect for RHPS fans by even doing this (and Loud Adler can suck it for selling out)

16I actually don't like this movie...sorry, just never did. Love most musicals and weird movies but this one is just too much. That said, remaking it would be a horrible idea. The people that love it love it for the people and the characters they play; it would just be weird to replace them.

45i don't know if i'll be able to stomach a remake. there have been so many recently that haven't lived up to the original that it's painful. i wonder when people are going to get original ideas. it's all remakes/sequels and reality shows these days.
oh well - i'm sure that the true original RHPS fans will stay true and not adopt the idea of a new one.
