It's been a good year for Saved by the Bell alumni. Mark-Paul Gosselaar's new show, Raising the Bar, begins airing on TNT in September. Mario Lopez has been everywhere from Broadway to MTV. And now Elizabeth Berkley — who's already appeared on CSI: Miami and hosted Step It Up and Dance — is joining the cast of The L Word.
Berkley will come on board for the show's final season, playing a former love interest of Jennifer Beals's character ("the straight girl that got away," according to Entertainment Weekly). No word yet on when she'll show up, but she is going to be around for multiple episodes. This isn't the first time Berkley and Beals have worked together: They also shared screen time in the 2002 film Roger Dodger.
Berkley seems like she should fit right in with the rest of the L Word ladies, and I'm excited to see what she can do with this role. I'm also looking forward to this much more than her other upcoming project, the (potentially ill-advised) Donnie Darko sequel. What say you?

I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so...scared! hehe, j/k (Saved by the Bell throw back).
I do not know how I missed that they are making a sequel to Donnie Darko, but that seems like a HORRIBLE idea. Don't ruin a good thing people. Not every movie is meant to have a sequel (Pirates of the Caribbean and The Matrix, I'm looking in your direction).
1What are the going to do about the whole she's the worst actress in the universe thing? She's entertainingly bad for sure, but the L Word is actually pretty good. She was perfect for CSI Miami though. Seeing her and David Caruso try to out-act each other was like watching two people in wheelchairs trying to kick each other. It was painful to watch but you couldn't look away/stop laughing.
2ah i'm still so sad that it's the l word's last season.. i'm guessing elizabeth berkley's character is going to stir up some trouble for bette and tina?
yeah i don't think she's a great actress either.. but maybe she'll surprise us
3hahaha tralalala...your comment is hysterical. And so true. I watch CSI Miami sometimes just to get his insane one-liners.
4Sorry...I don't see her bringing anything good to an already fantastic show. If anything she'll make it worse.
5This news + news of a possible spinoff + news that the series finale is going to be "open-ended and continue online" have me thinking that this season might be really cracked out.
6I will have a little faith in her. The producers on that show have only brought on good additions since the beginning and I doubt in the final season they would bring her without believing she is able to deliver.
I love L word! Don't screw this up Spano!
7I've been meaning to check out The L Word. I keep hearing such good things about it. I'll have to check my OnDemand to see if there are previous episodes so I can see if I care to catch up.
8I think Elizabeth Berkeley will do well on the L Word, especially as a former lover of Bette's. She and Jennifer Beals' Bette have a lot in common, so I can see how they'd work.
As for L Word spin-offs, the only good way for that to work is to do a spin-off comedy series about Alice called "The Chart with Alice Piezecki." Move Alice to a new city and have her establish her radio show there and discover how a chart like hers is actually made. I don't think any other character would work with her own show.
And I will NOT watch another show of Jenny being an insane, sociopathic bee-otch!
