In my heart of hearts, I want this movie to be good. While I haven't read the books (yet!), I like vampire-y love stories as much as the next girl. And from what I've learned about the books and the author, the whole thing is pretty intriguing.
So this second look at the Twilight movie confuses me a little bit. As someone who's looking at it without the background of having read the books, the whole thing still has a made-for-TV quality about it. It isn't stirring or taunting, and the supposedly evil one is so not scary. So what's the deal? Why aren't they luring us newbies in with mystery, dread, a sense of longing, and that heady feeling of teenage lust? This trailer should make our romantic bubbles boil while scaring the bejeezus out of us.
Is this what you were expecting? Or are you a bit underwhelmed? The good news is, we have quite some time to be enticed by probably countless more trailers and clips before the movie opens December 12.

Actually, I really like this trailer over the last one. I am a huge fan of the series and find the acting/chosen actors true to the characters within the book. However as you said, there will be plenty of clips and trailers being released before the movie comes out in December.
1A) Why haven't you read the books?
2B) Who cares if James isn't that scary when Edward looks so freakn' hot (courtesy of Robert Pattinson)
C) The acting is awesome. I cannot wait for December 12...after August 2nd, I have no idea how I'll keep myself contained with excitement.
I'm a bit disappointed with what I've seen so far. I agree Buzz, there's a made-for-TV feel to it...but it's still early days yet and I'm hoping the movie won't end up being too bad.
3I feel like they've given too much in this trailer--it's not as mysterious anymore.
4Honestly, I don't think the books give that scared/ oh god its a vampire feeling that say Anne Rice novels gave. It's more about teenage love. That said, the actors they picked are so very shiny.
5You really can't know until you read the books. This fanbase is SO HUGE, that this movie was literally made for the fans. Not just the general public who haven't read the books. If you take a look at all the interviews and blogs Catherine Hardwicke (director) has made, she really is focused on keeping the fans happy. In fact, the lady who wrote the screenplay originally tried to make Bella a track star and involve the FBI (which I'm sure would make better, more exciting trailers for you - a non fan). But Hardwicke said, "NO WAY" and pulled the screenplay back to the original story. The one that has sold millions, if not billions, of books worldwide.
I'm a pretty majorly involved fan (run one of the major fansites that has been around since 2006), and the fans worldwide get more and more excited with each Twilight movie blurb and blip that comes up. To us Twilighters, the trailers are FREAKING AWESOME. You don't get it. And how can you? You haven't read the books...
So, not to offend you, but as someone who hasn't read the books and isn't a "Twi-hard", no one really cares if the trailer intrests you or not.
6blah looks so corny and cheezy.
7I haven't been too excited over the trailers and some of the casting... but, I'm still going to see the movie. Although, I must admit that Belle and Edward look well cast. The supporting cast doesn't match what I visualized while reading though.
I'm more excited about August 2. The movies are never as good as the books.
If you haven't read the books, they're a rare treat. The type of addictive literature that you don't find very often - and so deeply romantic.
8I've read the books, and loved them I might add-counting down to August 2nd!... and I think the second trailer works better than the first. The second has more of a chance to pull in people who haven't read the books the first is just for the fans. I'm pretty excited for the movie, I loved Kristen in Speak and I think she'll make a fantastic Bella I'm not sure Robert there is pretty enough to be Edward- but in my mind Edward was my husband :)- but over all I'm so excited and I've already told my husband we're seeing it regardless of how bored he'll be. ha.
9You should read the books, seriously, why haven't you read the books?
They're not ground breaking but they pull you in never let go. Great stuff though.
James looks kinda hot, who cares? I'd like a hot James over a scary Anne Rice vampire type.
In terms of story and action, I think this will be better than the book. I won't give anything away, but the way Meyers describes things is just booooring. Bella is the hero but does nothing and since the books are from her pov it is sometimes disappointing. The movie actually brings the action to her. That said, I still read the books as a guilty pleasure, so she does do some things right- and The Host was fabulous. Each new book gets better and better, so I'm hoping the next Twilight one will be fabulous (and worth reading some of the bad writing in the first two...)
10i was so disappointed by the previous clips and trailers but this one actually got me excited. the books are amaaaaazing, but it isn't really that vampire-ish. it's very teen love kind of thing. but it gets so addicting, and edward just sounds so yummy but i was never much of a bella fan. i can't wait till august second :]
11the movie isn't even scary at all. it's more of like this mushy vampire feel into it. the book is basically about vampires going soft over this one girl.. i hope you read it buzz!
12Didn't like the book. Haven't the slightest interest in the movie. It doesn't look scary to me at all. Looks a bit cheesy to be honest.
13Meh.... no offense, please don't hate on me. But seriously those book were a pretty crappy excuse for literature, I know you're not supposed to take it too seriously but the writing is just bad...and Bella is a whiner. I don't know I think maybe the movies will be better, or at least I hope because the story isn't really half bad its just the way it was written that really bothers me.
14the trailer won't start
but I'm so excited for this movie! I read all three books and I LOVED
them
15Even More Excited
16" Meh.... no offense, please don't hate on me. But seriously those book were a pretty crappy excuse for literature"
your loss
17i'm a fan of the books and they really are giving too much away too quickly. we still have till december and they keep coming out with more and more clips. we're all excited, but once the movie comes out we'll have seen it all
18the trailer was okay, nothing too great but i'm not expecting much from the movie. it doesn't seem like its going to be as suspenseful as the book was.
and buzz, you should definetley read the book before you learn more about the movie from clips. it is sooo much better than all of this.
Somehow I just find the hype surrounding Twilight extremely off-putting. It doesn't help that some of the fans come across as really cocky... Then again, I may very well have felt the same way about the Harry Potter series if I hadn't started reading the books relatively early.
19That said, the trailer doesn't do anything for me.
Ughh. The trailers haven't really excited me at all yet. I loved the books, but I really hope they won't screw up the movie, although it may be something you can't avoid because each reader has a different view of Edward, Forks, etc., kind of like Harry Potter.
Also, Summit Entertainment is kind of a lower-budget studio. That might explain why the trailers have a made-for-tv feel. I don't really like that feeling myself, either. The trailers really haven't impressed me so far, although this one is slightly better than the first.
20these are so over hyped. i happened to be at barnes and noble the day of the book signing and it was just scarey. mobs of blue haired teenage girls with 'i love you edward!!' painted on the back of their crappy pick up trucks. people take this book way too seriously. its a little to overdramatic for me and i dont think i'll be seeing this movie...ever.
21Anyone read The Host? Can't wait for the movie either; hope it doesn't disappoint.
22i just actually watched the trailer and wow does that look dumb
23Uggh
24Poor Robert Pattison
i am not normally a motivated reader, but i devoured these books even though i am past young adult status. i am very excited to see the movie and the casting seems right, however i am worried that it won't live up to the book as far as the underlying emotions of the characters. the book is from bella's point of view and i agree with how the director put it, 'when i read the book, i could almost feel bella breathing'. these characters feel very real and are appealing. i was surprised by the feelings this series evoked in me.
if you are a vampire lit fan, you sort of have to throw out your preconceived ideas about the way you feel this fiction should be. sometimes i feel that the hype surrounding these books serves to antagonize (perhaps cynical) non-fans in a way. not to mention the fact that the books are characterized under young adult fiction which hinders it from being taken seriously by some. meyer is a tremendous storyteller. i have to admit that watching the trailers alone would not have particularly interested me had i not read the books. so, if you haven't read the series, give it a chance. you may just understand what all the fuss is about.
25xlightningboltx: i read the host and loved it. it was very interesting and touching. check it out when you can.
26The novel is too over-hyped and its about nothing at all. The movie looks boring.

30The novel is too over-hyped and its about nothing at all. The movie looks boring.
31I thought the trailer was great but then again I'm biased because I loved the books! I totally disagree that its over hyped. I was totally skeptical about the books when I first read them but was sucked in right away. It's a great series and I'm really excited for the movie.
32I LOVE TWILIGHT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
33...So of course, this goes below the Twilight-loving spammer. Oh, the irony.
I did read the books and gave them an honest try, but they really weren't for me. They're very Mary Sue (a term for a story in which everyone if perfect, ingenius and hot, thus they love each other.) I thought the writing was a little amateur and a lot of the plot came out of left field.
So no, I can't say I'm excited for the movie.
34i didn't consider the bella character to be perfect, ingenious, or hot. she's not described to be so. though i love these books, actually her character irritated me a bit throughout the series.
35dlmslp: Ahh, you know what, I saw the book in all its glory in a bookshop but I just went by it thinking I'll buy it next week! Now that I've heard all the awesome reviews..I'm dying to read it! That was a foolish moment.
36I saw the Twilight sneak peek on the Penelope dvd and was intrigued. I'd always meant to read the book because it seemed interesting but I think I'll wait until after I see it so he book won't spoil what happens in the movie for me.
37Some might not like it and some just do, to each his own, really. Let's just respect each other's preferences. To those who are still on the fence, check out the books or go watch the movie once it's out and tell us what you think.
Me, I love the books and I'm raring to see the movie.
38
39I'll be the 1st to admit that the writing style or lack thereof leaves something to be desired BUT the characters and the romance/supernatural plot pretty much pulls the TWILIGHT series out of the pile of UNREADABLE books. That said the 1st teaser trailer was better than this latest one...still I shall be there in December and I have already ordered my copy of BREAKING DAWN...however, I cannot say I'll read her next part of the series written from Edward's point of view.
40sheesh, there is no reason to get so angry over this. not everyone has the same opinions. a couple of the profiles above look to have been just created to spout off to non fans. oh please.
41Read the books is my only comment really. Other then that, I am excited about the movie, but all of us die hard Twilight Series fans have to know that there will alternatives within the film that may lead to disappointment, but that is true for every book to movie film (Harry Potter #5 for instance!).
About the statements that have been made about Robert Pattinson....he may not be your Edward (he is totally mine!)but he is an AWESOME actor....watch some of his other work, yes, something besides Harry Potter!! The Haunted Airman was AWESOME!!! He is so adaptable....I think we will all be in love with him after the Twilight movie!!
Finally, to Stephenie Meyer (who I met in May and is AWESOME!) Thank you for writing such wonderful books! As a teacher it is hard to convince my middle school students to read....once I found your series, not only are they reading, but they can't get enough. Have totally scored cool points with my kidos for being a fan!!
42I have read the books, and i'm excited to see the movie. I think the cast will be great. But i do hope they don't continue releasing trailers as they'll just end up giving too much away, part of why i'm excited to see it is because i want to see the changes they made to the original story, which i think will be awesome.
Who wants to go see a movie that is identical to the book?? Way too predicable.
43I never read young adult fiction even when I was a teen but I read these books and they are awesome!! Not everyone finds litereature a la Cormac McCarthy to their taste so there is no reason to be snobbish about reading. To each their own and whther Meyer is an awesome writer or not, her next book has a first print run of 3.5 million copies, so I guess millions of people can't all be wrong for loving her.
44Love these books! I'm probably too old to like them as much as I do, but the characters are so amazing, I can't help but be drawn in!
I think the movie really has potential to be very cool visually, but it can't live up to the book. I've NEVER seen a movie that I liked better than a book I'd already read and enjoyed. They have to cut too much.
That said, I think Rob and Kristen are going to be great in the movie and I'm counting down!
45omg i'm SOO pumped! I'm sad I can't watch this at work but I have been waiting for the full length one to come out forever! The movie looks awesome and I can't wait for August 2nd!
46I've read the books and they're pretty badly written. A few characters are funny, but it's basically wish fufillment for teenage girls who want a beautiful guy to love them completely and effortlessly. So the trailer plays into that by showing the cute guy and the ordinary girl and making fans excited to see it in action, not necessarily to attract new fans.
47i am a huge fan of the books and may i add that i am counting down the days to AUgust 2nd! as a huge fan of the book i was excited 2 hear about the movie. but after seeing the trailers i think they look awful and don't do the book any justice! i will not b seeing this movie!
48frogandprince - I agree, she isn't the best writer ... especially when it comes to the action scenes. I often find myself going back to reread the section just to make sure i didn't miss something ... but i do love when she describes the bella and edward relationship, even though its so corny! haha but its a good mindless read
and i think it will be an better movie!
49Ok this person has no idea what shes talking about in this article. James was totally creepy in this trailer (and i'm 22!)
and he was totally like the book James, (which she would know if she bothered her ass to read the book!)
The security guard thing was awsome and quite scary, the look on his face was taunting and he was being dragged from the grate.
And the love/romance was deeply conveyed in the first trailer so they were focusing more on excitemet in this trailer.
