In Reign Over Me, which comes out March 23rd, Adam Sandler tries his hand at a heartwarming dramatic role playing Charlie Fineman, whose wife and children die in the World Trade Center attacks. He leaves his dental practice and becomes reclusive, until an old college buddy (Don Cheadle) shows up and helps Charlie rejoin the land of the living. Awww.

The trailer looks a little precious, but I am heartened by this Reuters story, which claims that Reign Over Me shows "sensitivity without over-reverence, tacitly acknowledging a nation's (and a city's) trauma without ever suggesting that its character is somehow a stand-in."
I'll see this because I adore Don Cheadle, and also because I'm curious to watch Sandler do drama — without the Punch Drunk Love quirkiness. Check out the trailer and tell me what you think when you read more

I really can't wait for this film to come out. I love Don Cheadle, and Adam Sandler's been growing on me since Punch-Drunk Love. I love the direction Sandler's gone with throwing away the slapstick "Happy Gilmore" roles, and trading them in for beautiful roles like Barry Egan and the wonderfullu romantic John Clasky in Spanglish. The trailer shows that the movie has many dimensions on which to gravitate the viewer towards without being overwhelming.
1Two things that puzzle me about this movie:
21) I am sure it is explained early in the film, but how likely is it that this man would lose his entire family in the 9/11 attacks? On the commercials he has like, 3 kids and his wife. I dont want to appear insensitive to anyone who actually lost more than one family member that day, but I am curious as how they will explain that.
2) Why does Adam Sandler look like Bob Dylan in this movie?
I am def going to see this- I love Don Cheadle AND Adam Sandler. The movie looks adorable
3Sara, I'm thinking his family was all on a plane together, going somewhere without him. Maybe one of the flights that was hijacked and went down. That would explain them all dying.
4And you're totally right. He has Bob Dylan hair. but Adam Sandler's head is kinda big so I don't think he can really pull it off.
I probably won't see this. I like Done Cheadle, but I'm not a huge Sandler fan.
that movie looks so cute..and sad. I cant wait to see it!
5Don Cheadle = Cat Daddy. I will see anything with him in it...sadly, this will include Ocean's Thirteen.
6I want to see this movie when it comes out. It looked good and I want to see how Adam Sandler plays his role in this drama.
7This looks promising. Is Don Cheadle the best, or what? I was not really an Adam Sandler fan, but I thought he did a great job in Spanglish. I will definitely see this unless someone convinces me otherwise.
8I really want to see this, it looks pretty good. I adore Don Cheadle, and like Sandler better in edgier, dramatic parts. I'll watch Punch Drunk Love over Billy Madison anyday!

can't wait to see it!
10vintagesugar, i agree that sandler was great in spanglish and that cheadle is always entertaining.
11I thought Sandler's part in Splangish could have been played by anyone. He was good enough, but I don't feel it took alot of effort. It was Leachman and Leoni that stole that movie, imo.

13I finally got to see this, and I was kind of bored. And I don't necessarily bore easily, lol.
