Not only has Kate Hudson been added to the already-magnificent cast of Nine, a film adaptation of the award-winning musical, but the role and a song were added to the movie specifically for her.
The musical, inspired by Fellini's 8 1/2, is said to be "sultry and enchanting," and the same could be said about most of the cast members. Daniel Day-Lewis plays "world famous film director Guido Contini as he prepares his latest picture and balances the numerous women in his life."
The women playing Contini's women? They include Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Penélope Cruz, and now Kate Hudson.
Of his new cast addition, director Rob Marshall (Chicago) remarked, "It's wonderful having Kate join this extraordinary cast! Her revelatory skills as a singer and a dancer lead to the creation of the role of 'Stephanie,' a fashion reporter from Vogue working in Italy. An exciting new song, written by our composer Maury Yeston, has been added for her as well."
What do you think about this? Compared to the other people on this cast list, is Kate Hudson of the same caliber? Do you look forward to her contributions to a Rob Marshall musical movie?

you know, it seems to be a trend that movies now have these AMAZING casts which means that they have to have amazingly large budgets - don't know how that one works - but ok. anyway, we'll just have to wait and see what happens with this one - i'm not sure that i'm interested in the content, but i guess it could look better once it's been shot and promoted.
1i am excited kate has been cast in the movie, but as a huge musical theater fan i find it annoying and maybe even disrespectful to the original composers that the film people create a brand new song & character etc. for the movie. i feel as though when musicals get made into films, and in order to be nominated for an oscar for best song, they just throw in a bunch of random new songs.
but i could totally be proved wrong and it could be the best number in the movie.
2Adding Kate to an already great cast seems like a good move. Looking forward to another Rob Marshall production and to seeing Daniel Day Lewis again!
3Kate sings? Since when?!! Guess you have to be a fan.
4I'd rather see unknowns.
5The director obviously has faith in her ability if he added the part just for her! I think she'll add a youthful touch.
6Well, Rob Marshall knows his musicals - I think he executed Chicago perfectly, and cast almost every single actor well. I can't wait to see Daniel Day-Lewis and Judi Dench in this film.
7I wonder if some actors take a pay cut to be in certain movies that they believe in. Just a thought.
8I'm going to be really judgemental and say, no it won't work. Because I get my hopes up and they just fail me every time.
9Actually the role was enlarged but not created for Ms Hudson, the role of Stephanie was in the original play. But she was a film critic turned producer and had only a small part to sing in the Follies Bergere number.
