One might argue that every experience — film-related or otherwise — helps to build character and broaden one's worldview. However, when it comes to bad movies or intensely disturbing movies, are there any that you feel unfairly robbed you of either time or peace of mind?
In regard to disturbing movies, I saw Boys Don't Cry and Monster many years ago, but there are images from both of them that I am afraid I might never get out of my memory. I don't regret having seen them, per se, but the memories are hard to live with. Then there are, you know, bad movies, like The Love Guru, that make me angry for ever having stepped foot in the theater.
And there are those special ones that are both poorly done and disturbing, like a movie I saw at Sundance called Death in Love. So many regrets about that one.
What about you?

i didn't find kids to be that bad at all gigli on the other hand absolutely
1Made of Honor. I want my money back.
2I've seen so many horrible movies... If I could get back those hours, I'd probably turn two years younger.
The worst of all certainly was Troy, followed by Titanic, plus a myriad of other movies I'd rather not seen.
3I wish I hadn't seen Cold Mountain. It was too disturbing. It seemed like it was gory and depressing just to get an Oscar and that angered me. Nicole Kidman and Jude Law trying to be southern Americans annoyed me as well.
4I wish I had not seen Atonement. It was a beautiful movie and well made, but it really affected me and I was just a much sadder person for having spent that time. The benefits didn't outweigh the downside.
I think Kids is a great example too, Buzz- I didn't want to touch another human being for days after seeing that movie, it grossed me out that much. Plus it was way overhyped. (in my opinion)
5I regretted seeing Open Water. It was a true story and usually I love movies that actually happened but this was the most boring movie I've ever seen. I could have made that movie with friends in a swimming pool.
6Beloved. Great book, bloody awful film.
7Most recently- 10,000 BC, it was just awful! I'm sure there's more, I just can't remember now...
8There are three movies that I sat all the way through and really regretted, especially since I kept thinking "It has to get better than this", but it never did:
Eye of the Beholder
Talented Mr. Ripley
What Dreams May Come
We stopped watching "The Perfect Storm" after the ship rolled over. I mean, everything after the radio died was just pure fiction and speculation anyway, so it was pointless. At least it had something interesting going on.
With DVDs, though, I don't waste my time watching a movie if I think it sucks. I'll just skip to the end and see what happens, and be done with it. My time doing nothing is better than my time wasted on a sucky movie.
That said, I love movies and own plenty.
9a movie? probably, i'vee about a thousand of those of my short 20 years of life... but i can definetely remember show i regret trying watching - Nashville and The Office. *barf*
10I remember walking out of Wild Wild West and thinking, Will Smith's career is going downhill. Boy was I wrong. Still a bad movie, though.
11Yes, I saw Awake...it was so bad.
12I thought that because Terrence Howard was in it..it was going to be good..but...no. haha
Will I make myself seem ridiculously old when I say "Hudson Hawk..." that movie was awful!
13The Happening
Rescue Dawn
Blades of Glory
Nacho Libre
Idlewild
Death to Smoochy
And these are just the ones I can remember. And all of them in the theatre. I don't mind watching a crap movie at home, but when I pay to see it in theatres, it better be good.
14My best friend and I still discuss how we couldn't deal with "Eyes Wide Shut" (back in 99) we left 3/4ths of the way through. I'm not a Tom Cruise fan or Nicole Kidman for that matter and the plot was HORRIBLE. But for some reason we were lured in by the trailors. Did anyone else see it?
15There are lots because I grew up in a town with not much to do but go to the dollar theater. Dollar movies are great when you are young and have no money, but it leads to seeing a lot of movies you wouldn't normally bother with. The one I really want my time back for is Dogville. Foreshame, Nichole Kidman, foreshame. Apt Pupil is a close second. Who thought it was a good idea to make a movie about a kid that wanted to become a Nazi? Ugh.
I don't think I have ever seen a good movie that I have regretted watching, even if it was sad or affected me. I consider those to be the best movies. Although when I left the theater from watching The Departed I was VERY jumpy!
16It is funny, some listed above are some of my fave films, haha!
One I can definitely think of is "Rob Zombie's-House of 1000 Corpses" - I still have no idea why I saw this and I regretted every second of it.
17Yes; some kids movies really do suck, despite some, like Kung Fu Panda or Finding Nemo. I despised Nacho Libre, and the Shaggy Dog, not to mention Underdog as well. Some of my friends have dragged me to those scary movie knock-offs, like Epic Movie and Superhero Movie, and Meet the Spartans. It's horrifying how horrible they are.
18Eyes Wide Shut TOTALLY disturbed me too Marlovestar! Also Boy's Don't Cry I agree there two Buzz. Also Seven (saw it took young, don't mind it now) and Silence of the Lambs (and the other two related to that). And in terms of both bad and disturbing Saw- yuck!
19The Blair Witch Project. So stupid.
20kids was shocking. but it was kind of realistic and just like.. wow. monster was also pretty intense. but i dont regret seeing either. things we lost im the fire.. THAT was a bad movie. i dont think ive ever liked a halle berry movie, except maybe gothika.
21i regretted seeing the love guru, it
22was so bad! as well i hate the ring as that
little girl disturbed me, i hate scary movies
I could name a ton. The Grudge, The Village, Lady in the Water, Meet the Spartans, Water World, Battlefield Earth, Jackass, Kung Pow, Nacho Libre, etc
23OH and the only scary movie I regretted seeing was Hostel.
24BloodRayne. I don't think I need to say too much about how much I regret watching this movie.
25the ring scared the crap out of me, and wish I'd never seen Beloved, It or Arachnophobia, the retarded movie blood car my sister forced me to watch lol
26pet cemetary too!
27is it the word crap in my first post that makes it flagged for approval? Just checking...
28guess not!
29spiderman. i fell asleep in the theater
30I walked out of the theatre when I saw Eyes Wide Shut, if that counts.
31K, I also liked Kids and thought it was realistic. Worst movies I've seen that actually demoralized me permanently: Swordfish. Diary of a Mad Black Woman. Hmm, we should do this more often. Good for Netflix editing, heehee.
32Chuckie. that was the scariest doll ever and it gave me nightmares.
i'd say next would be the James Bond movie from last year. That was the longest movie I've ever sat thru.
33of course i have regrets when they are $10 a pop!
34Didn't pay but waste of time: Norbit, Catwoman, Perfect Stranger, Kazaam, Soul Plane, Glitter, I Know Who Killed Me, Gigli, Eyes Wide Shut, Are We There Yet, and Shaggy Dog
Bad movies i like: Speed 2, Wild Wild West, Premonition, Are We Done Yet, All About the Benjamin's, Roscoe Jenkins, and Spice World
Movies that disturbed me: Willard, Fight Club, Hostel 2, and The Exorcist
I paid to see and SUCKED: Lady in the Water and House of Wax
There's a lot more but can't think of them off the top of my head.
35Now, I agree with the sentiment about bad movies, but if it looks like something I won't enjoy I usually stay away from it until it's on cable. I regret watching any Lifetime movies as a teenager. Sometimes things would be on and I'd watch part and some of the horrible things kids/women went through have honestly caused problems and I'm damaged from it. I don't watch Lifetime at all any more. There are some movies I've seen on HBO that I wanted to sue someone to get the hour + of my life back. ha.
36Hostel. Horrible.Horrible. Horrible.
37My old college roommate and I watched Dancer in the Dark. She was told by her professor to watch it for her theater class. I said I would watch it with her. It was really difficult to watch with its highs and lows. Afterwards, we didn't feel right and tried to watch carebears to lighten the mood. I was depressed and totally screwed up for a week because of it. We both joke about it saying we'd like to watch it again (knowing the outcome and that it is a musical now). But I tend to think I won't be ever watching it again.
38Spiderman III....absolute bilge.
39The Other Boleyn Girl, I have never been so angry at a movie before. I loved the book.
40OMG yes City of Joy (old old movie with Patrick Swayze), House on Haunted Hill and Chucky! Oh and The Libertine! Ugh
41surprised no one's mentioned Napoleon Dynamite yet
42haha yikes.
Definitely "Lady in the Water" for me. My friend and I ended up walking out..we were just making fun of it anyway.
We did get free passes cause the air conditioner was broken and it was hot as Hades in there!
43In The theater:
- The Ring 2, just awful. I am a huge fan of the orginal and I was majorly disappointed in the sequel.
At Home (on DVR):
- The Break-Up (sort-of funny, mostly boring.)
)
44- War of The Worlds(the most annoying movie & not because of Tom
- Money Pit (I like Tom Hanks however this film was bad..)
- Big (again, I like Hanks however did not take to this movie.)
- Funny Face (I like Audrey however I could not stand this movie.)
... there are plenty of others however I cannot name them right now (and if I did this post would go on forever, lol.)
One I watched on TV recently and hated was Stephen King's Village of The Damned. awful.
45I Know Who Killed Me. I heard it sucked but I watched it anyway, I wished I hadn't
Also, The Girl Next Door. This one I regret because it was based on true events. How someone can treat someone else like that (especially her niece) just sickens me.
46BTW, I've never seen Kids so I'm Netflixing it!
47HAPPY FEET. It was seriously terrible. Not funny or cute. Just a public service announcement in disguise.
48The Blair Witch Project I thought it was so stupid and it was totally talked up about then I go and see it was like what is this? Waste of time for me.
49"I Know Who Killed Me" was an ok movie it was SO SLOW but good at the end.
"The Girl Next Door" I am in Forensics so I loved this movie. It was so crazy how her family did that to her though but it happens. Ring 2 was not that good compared to the first.
"Lady in the Water" Sucked too.
