Want to know which So You Think You Can Dance dancers will be coming soon to a city near you? The top 10 of the season were revealed on Thursday's episode, marking the true start of the finals and the last major hurdle before "America's favorite dancer" is named. Was the elimination the expected one, or was there a twist? To find out and talk about it, just read more.
Well, the judges did what was expected, sending Comfort and Thayne home after they (not too shockingly) ended up in the bottom three. Nobody seemed even a tiny bit surprised, least of all Thayne, who was left in the unenviable position of having to dance a solo against Twitch, who's one of the main reasons why anyone is watching this show, and Will, who the judges believe is heaven-sent.

If there's anything remotely surprising about the elimination, it's that Twitch and Kherington ended up in the bottom three at all — but even that wasn't out of the blue, at least if comments here are any indication. There's been some outcry over the past couple of weeks that the judges are propping them up unnecessarily, plus some suggestion that having to dance solos might humble the two of them a little, and so I don't think giving them a bottom-three scare was a bad thing. They clearly weren't going home (Nigel basically said as much before they even danced for their lives), but it's probably a smart move to raise the possibility.
Will and Jessica as the other pair in the bottom was also not too surprising, and nor was the fact that they're both sticking around — though it seemed clear to me that Jessica will be going home at the next available opportunity. Her solo wasn't great (though I didn't think any of the girls' were — entirely too much running around!), but I'm glad it was good enough, because I am curious to see her with someone who isn't God's Precious Gift to Dancing.
Some other thoughts:
- So I don't usually talk a lot about Cat's hair, because if I did it would mostly come down to "Cat's hair pretty. Me want Cat's hair." But I did find it incredibly distracting last night; the right side was so pretty, and the left side was just a teasing experiment gone wrong.
- Just for a second, can you try to imagine the outcry that would have ensued had Twitchington not made the tour? I'm not sure I've ever seen the like.
- I see the level of talent on this show and I'm blown away, so it's even more impressive to see the real pros. Those Alvin Ailey dancers were incredible.
- Were Thayne and Mia wearing the same shirt?
- Honestly: Have we had a week yet with out a OneRepublic song entering in in either a solo, a guest performance, or a montage? If we have had one, I suppose the double dose last night makes up for it.
So, your thoughts? I doubt too many of you will be surprised at the elimination — but was it the right thing to do? And how does this top 10 stack up to what you were predicting at the start of the season?

I dont get the whole hubbub about twitchington, i find them good but they never popped out too much for me. But maybe im biased since i have a huge girl boner for Will. Although i really have nothing against Jessica, i like her.
1And i dont know what Nigel was smoking but i found Comfort's solo anything but great... oh well what do i know about dancing!!
Thayne is a cutie, but obviously was going to be the one to go between the 3. I'm still mad at Mia for making that comment on wednesday about Will being fed up of Jessica.
Hate to say it but I think I agree with Nigel that I would have been happy with losing 2 girls for all the boys! I have loved Twitch since last year, but man, Will is just a site to be seen, he really is a Desmond Richardson (check him out if you haven't seen him!!!)
2Sight, not site... need more coffee
3Totally agree about Comfort's solo too.... it was just running!!!
4I agree with the eliminations, and I'll be curious to see both Jessica and Will with new partners (will she do better without the pressure? Will he be all that the judges expect without the "weight" of Jessica??)...I really like all of the top ten and can't wait to see them switch up (though I love Joshua/Katee and Mark/Chelsea)...I bet Gev will be heartbroken w/out Courtney...heehee
5and just an addition: Is anyone else missing the variety of choreographers??? I love the new guy last night, but I feel like past seasons have had more variety when it came to choreographers..I mean, I really like Tabatha and Napoleon, but geez, how many numbers of theirs have we seen??
6Thayne and Mia WERE wearing the same tank top...awkward. Also Comfort and Twitch had the same shirt (different colors).
7I agree, more choreographers would be good. I do like when they throw in old contestants (Benji and Lacey, Pasha and Anya) as choreographers. I would love to see Travis Wall do more than just the tryouts choreography. I don't know what you guys think about this but I could really do without the classic ballroom dancing. In practical terms, when would they use this in the real world unless they are doing competitions or Dancing with the Stars? People don't use ballroom dancing in performance dances, videos, concerts, etc,!? Anyway I thought Comfort was over rated from jump and Thane was good but nothing compared to Will (dance god) or others of that style, like Travis. Gev has really stepped it up for me from the beginning. At first I was disappointed he even made it but now he's won me over. And I do love me some Twitch!!!!!!!!!
8Also I want to see Will dance with blond Chelsea.
9Glad to know that others saw that Mia and Thayne were dressed alike! Is Mia's love for Thayne never ending? I wasn't at all impressed with Comfort's solo and I'm not really all that fond of Twitch, but he's here to stay, for a while at least. Unless she does something amazing (in fact, even if she does do something amazing), Jessica will be the next to exit. I'm curious to see which guy will be leaving; my bet is that it won't be Will.
10I believe Will was wearing the same t-shirt as Comfort and Twitch (diff. colors). Anyone know the significance of "IV Real?"
I hope Gev isn't too heartbroken to dance next week without his Courtney! His crush on her is too cute.
11IV = 4, so I just assumed it was a clever way of saying For Real. Not sure why several of the dancers were wearing them, though.
12I love Twitch. However, my favorite dance was the Bollywood one. Also, I knew they were going to keep Will. After watching the Ailey dancers, he totally looked like he could be one of them.
13Maybe season 4, or maybe having something to do with the charity www.4real.com?
Personally, I think Comfort + Twitch + Anyone Else Who Wants to Join should start a dance crew called 4 Real.
14well with the onerepublic comment - the show did give them their first live TV performance EVER last year - so it makes sense to me. i loved katy though last night - she's ADORABLE.
on the note of the dancers - it's kind of clear who they think will win - right? i think that it's going to start getting hard cause most of the remaining dancers are consistently EXCELLENT. i have to say that i think katee and will get the best routines - so much character all the time - and that's something that makes it more interesting to viewers. they execute their routines amazingly well though so we know that there's skill there too.
15This season has such a good crop of talented dancers. I have such a soft spot for will but I also love Chelesa! And Gev I am finding more and more adorable everyday. And of course I am intrested to see what happens when they switch up the pairings on Katee and Josuha! Can't wait...
16LOVED KAty Perry!
17SaRaH never heard that song before by Katy Perry (I am a little out of touch with music lately) but its so catchy! lovely song.
18TOTALLY agree about Comfort's solo! She was running in circles and the judges spoke of it as if it were dancing genius.
Does anyone know who choreographs the "Dancing for Their Lives?"
Do the dancers do it themselves? That would suck if you're a really good dancer but a terrible choreographer...
19I agree with all of you about Comfort's solo, but then I feel like the solos overall tend to disappoint. An exception for me was Twitch, whose solo I thought was so brilliant and unique. I think the judges were correct in saying it was a good wakeup call for Twitchington- I am more impressed with Twitch now that I saw that solo.
Poor Thayne! He never had a chance against Twitch and Will!
PS- popcorn19, LOVE your photo!!
20The demise of Comfort was long overdue. They should've eliminated her before they eliminated Chelsea. I was infuriated every week they kept her!
21You know, I've always assumed the dancers choreograph their own solos (or perhaps work with a teacher before they get to the show to have a whole bunch of solos in reserve) -- but I'm actually not positive that's true.
22I think that they choreograph their own rountines, I remember last season Sabra telling Cat she had made hers up as she was dancing. I love the top 10!!
23They choreograph their own solos. I remember the judges getting really mad at all the people who would say they made it up as they went. If I remember correctly, I think it was the deciding factor once, because they felt like if you didn't take it seriously enough to put something together/practice beforehand, then you weren't taking the competition seriously enough.
24Oh Buzz...what makes you think it may not be true? I remember what Graylen was saying too...that when they don't take their solos seriously and just make it up as you go and its bad..they kick you off.
Do you have some inside dirt Buzz?
25ha, I wish I had inside dirt! I just realized I'd never heard anyone say for sure who choreographed the solos (though the comments above are ringing a bell).
Since you mention it, though, if last year is any indication, the top 10 will be at the TCA Press Tour on Monday, where I'll also be — so if I get to ask a question, I'll find out about the solos!
26The dancers choreograph their own solos. I remember Lacey saying it last season. Thank God Thayne is gone. Although he is an awesome dancer, I couldn't take looking at his Cheshire Cat grin anymore... And I liked Comfort. She had a great attitude and for someone who only started dancing 2 years ago, I think she held her own.
27So glad Comfort is gone.
It just makes me mad because Kourtni & Matt were so much better,
and if they had just sent Thayne & Comfort home last week,
they may have had more of a chance this week :/
Whatevs.
Thayne didn't have a chance against Will & Twitch.
There was no way Twitch wasn't going to be in the Top 10 -
people want to go to the tour just to see Twitchington.
I hate that the judges have it out for Jessica. She's fantastic, but they've given her such a complex.
I'm nervous/excited to see who everyone gets paired with. I'm sad that Chelsie & Mark aren't going to be together anymore
p.s. Katy Perry = fantastic.
28This is the first time that I have ever watched this show and I am enjoying it. But I don't get when they switch partners. Is it random or what?
Did anyone else notice at the end that Cat was all about hugging Thayne and poor Comfort was standing there awkwardly.
29I love Katy Perry's song, but I did not enjoy her performance on the show. I thought it was boring. Part of it was that I had heard the song before and was expecting the singer to be more edgy.
I liked last season so much more than this season. There were more "wow" dance pieces for me last season, and I feel like the judges are favoring certain dancers too much this season. Where did Wade Robson go? And Dan Karaty? And Shane Sparks? (Wade and Shane have each choreographed one results show group dance)
I am happy with the top 10. I've been wanting Comfort to go home for a while. I'm excited to see the strengths and weaknesses exposed when they switch partners. For Gev's sake, I hope he's paired with Chelsie (or someone else similarly short. I don't have a great grasp on the heights of the girls).
I agree with couture's comment about the judges giving Jessica a complex. I'm happy for her that she won't be with Will; maybe she'll have a better opportunity to shine. The judges do seem to think that Will is God's Gift to Dance, but I'm personally not that fond of him. I want to see more personality from him.
30I'm enjoying the talent on this show, but find myself muting the tv when the judges speak...well, when that one loud obnoxious ear-bleedingly annoying lady speaks.
