According to The New York Times, the demand is so high for opening weekend tickets to The Dark Knight that many theaters are showing the film on Friday, July 18 starting at midnight (no surprise there), and continuing through 6:00 a.m. showings. Fandango.com is reporting "well over 1,500 wee-hour showings for The Dark Knight in theaters that typically do not open their doors before about 10 a.m."
The Times article goes on to note that people are now paying the kind of attention to movies that was "once reserved for rock concerts, basketball games or the introduction of a hot product like the iPhone."
The midnight screenings I can understand — especially for a dark, spooky, adventure story like The Dark Knight, but 6:00 a.m. on a weekday morning? Indeed: "About 38 percent of ticket buyers polled by Fandango said in a recent survey that they intended to take some or all of July 18 off to see The Dark Knight."
What do you think of all this? Would you see a super-early morning screening of this Batman story?

it's not that SERIOUS
1i can barely open my eyes for work before 830, i dont know how i would get up and stay up to see a movie.
2not that serious????
i have been wanting to see this movie for so long. i've already got my tickets for friday early morning (thursday was sold out!) and will be dressing up as the bat mobile (my friends will be batman and the joker). can't wait!
3Sure, why not, it'd be fun! I have to remember to preorder my tix soon.
4were people this crazed about the last one?
5I would if I didn't have to go to work afterwards. 6am isn't THAT early, especially when you've got nothing planned the rest of the day (naps, anyone?) 3am, on the other hand, would just be unreasonable.
I've already got my ticket for Saturday afternoon.
6I have several friends who are taking the day off to see it. I dunno about 6:00 am, they're going to try for midnight tickets. If they can't get them though, I'm sure they'd take whatever they could get since they won't be working.
7em113 — No, I don't think there was nearly as much hype surrounding Batman Begins, though, as that NYT article points out:
8"This time much of the fan interest has been driven by word of a career-topping performance by Heath Ledger, the Australian actor who died in January. His louche interpretation of the Joker has already inspired Oscar talk."
I probably WOULD do this, but my boyfriend wouldnt so I said Nah. Plus I HAVE to have popcorn at the movies and I don't know if my tummy would appreciate that at 6 am haha
9I would if it were a weekend, and I'd have to stay up all night beforehand hanging out with friends or something. I wouldn't be able to get out of bed for that.
10I don't do 6AM, even for The Dark Knight...
11i'd only do it if i hadn't gone to bed yet. sure as sh*t wouldn't get up to see it at 6 am
12I agree, its really not that serious. Its only a movie. Guess what?! if you miss it the day it comes out you can catch it the day after...and the after that, and the day after that and the day after that!!!
It will be on the big screen long enough to catch it. I never understood all the hype of HAVING to watch a movie the second it comes out.
ok rant over. Enjoy the movie!!
13Er...I want to see it, but that's practically the middle of the night for me!
14No. And actually none of them. It also bugs me that all the hype about this film has to do with Heath Ledger's death, it feels like morbid curiosity.
15i might - it's a hard question. i think that it would be better to see the movie at night - but i know that my fiance REALLY wants to see it - so i guess we'll see it when he wants to see it.
16I'll watch some day, but not at 6 AM ever!
17i get up at 5am every morning to go to the gym...i can definitely get up at that time to go tothe movies...it's actually less painful!!
18I watched the first one at midnight because I am in love with Christian Bale and was excited about the movie. I am planning to watch again at midnight and have already purchased my tickets. I am not sure I would wake up at 6:00 a.m. for the movie. I remember the last Star Wars movie (I haven't seen them) had showings at 6 and 7 a.m., so it isn't a novel approach.
19Heath Ledger's performance (which is rumored to be amazing!) is going to be 100 times more eerier now. True, there wasn't this much hype about the first movie, and I think a lot of it does have to do with Heath, but at the same time, we all want to find out what happens next!, making sequels sometimes a lot more anticipated than the first.
20I already got my tickets for the midnight IMAX showing!!! All the NYC IMAX showings were already sold out when I first started looking for tickets a week ago. I wasn't going to do the 4A or 6A showing so I settled for dragging by butt to Long Island for the last few seats of their midnight showing.
21i think this movie looks dumb and i don't plan on seeing it at all. i really don't like spiderman or batman.
22no I'd rather sleep in and watch it later. But I do want to see it! Nic is nuts about it so I am sure we will check it out this weekend.
23It's not Heath that's making my friends want to see the movie RIGHT NOW. It's that they're a bunch of comic book obsessed nerds. I imagine there is plenty of morbid curiosity about Heath, but I think it's equal parts Heath and the first movie was so good and the reviews for this one are so overwhelmingly positive that the nerds will flock in droves to see it.
24I would do anything to see it that Friday. BUT I will be traveling to visit a sick friend...not sure I will be able to squeeze it in. Perhaps I should try for a midnight screening - but ewww...I feel gross if I stay up that late and THEN to have to get ready at 4 am for my flight? I don't think so....
So I will see it Monday night. I just hope no one spoils it for me. I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE IT!!!!!!!!!!
It's not that Heath is dead at all. It's that his performance has always been rumored to be groundbreaking and I love these kinds of movies anyway.
25thanks for the clarification buzz, I liked the last movie but was shocked about how big the hype has been for this one. For me its the type of movie I will probably see in theaters after its been out a couple weeks.
26I wish I could see it on midnight with my friends but I'm going to be out of town and no movie theaters are around
27When Batman Begins came out, the big talk was Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, which diminished some of the Batman hype. That movie was okay. THIS movie is getting really great reviews. Plus, even before his death, Heath was getting such raves for this performance. I can't wait to see it. I LOVE me some Batman.
28*I hit send too soon.*
29I love Batman, but I love the villains too. I am really looking forward to the Joker. THEN to see Two Face!! I can't wait...
Hell no.
30Yep, in a heartbeat. I've got to work at 9:45 but I may go see it that evening.
31When I go to the movies in the afternoon, it'll still be there
32I can't get up that early. But I'm seeing it opening night!
33I'll wait for a later screening
34I wasn't even really planning on seeing it. I don't really like superhero movies...
35I am so excited about seeing The Dark Knight, but there is no way I could or would get up that early to see it. I don't even know if I want to go on opening night because I hate crowded theaters. It's not a big deal for me to see a movie the second it comes out. It's still the same movie no matter which showing I go to.
36I'm all for seeing a movie you have been dying to see on opening day but 6 AM just seems extreme. That said, I'll have to wait until early August
. Avoiding spoilers will be so fun...
37I'm not in bed until 8am. So I guess so. But I don't think it'd get advanced tickets or anything.
38i'm waiting for dvd to come out. unless i go on a date to the cinema.
39Yes, I'm actually going to the 6am screening next Monday morning. I'm typically not one to wait up at an outrageous time to get tickets or see something, but that's just how it worked out. My friend and movie buddy really wants to see Dark Knight in IMAX, and now I want to also. AND we want to see the movie as soon as we can to avoid people spoiling the ending for us. But the IMAX theater nearest us is booked for a week straight at decent times, so we're going to go at 6am.
Oh wells. I usually stay up until 3am anyways so I'll just sleep a lot the days before and my friend and I are gonna go out and party the night before/morning of. haha, I'm excited though!
40I just watched Batman Begins last night to refresh my memory ... so stoked for The Dark Knight! (but I will NOT be seeing it at 6 am)
41Call me blind then because i saw absolutely no sign of 6am shows here in NY. Tons of midnight shows for thursday at midnight ans a few on tues. and wed and even a 3am show but no 6am show. No need to oversell it. I saw this earlier in the week. It's really good. I love that motorcycle.
