There's been lots of scuttlebutt lately that Friends could finally go the way of Sex and the City and make its way to the big screen. Ever since the rumor resurfaced, reps for both the studio and the actors have been busily denying it, but it's still an interesting thing to think about: Can you really imagine seeing the Central Perk crew back together again? I don't think I can picture it — but then, I don't know if I could have imagined a big-screen SATC, either, and it's made more than $350 million in theaters worldwide.
Rumors also come up from time to time about a big-screen reunion of The Sopranos or The Wire, though none of them seems to have much credibility behind it. On the other hand, though, the Arrested Development movie really seems like a good possibility now, with various cast members confirming all over the place that a deal is in the works.
Are there other series that you think could successfully leap to the big screen? And, on the other hand, are there some that you think would just never work as films?

I think that I could see Friends as a movie... but I'm not sure. I'd be afraid that stretching it out would make it not funny anymore. A little bit like how "the office" struggled with those hour-long eps sometimes.
I could see "gilmore girls" as a movie (and REALLY HOPE IT HAPPENS!) and i think that "entourage" would translate well. maybe veronica mars as well...

3Arrested Development definitely! Please let that one actually happen especially since Fox screwed them and barely promoted the show at all.
4Arrested Development is a must. Veronica Mars would be fabulous on the big screen, the mystery format works well for movies and they could tie up all the loose ends from the season finale that turned out to be a series finale.
5Arrested Development would work well as a movie, they have all the quirky story lines and sillyness going on, it'd make for a fun movie. I didn't see the SATC movie because I'm done with that show, I loved the show but wasn't up for the movie. Veronica Mars might make a good movie, I could see it but it might get lost some where in the length of the movie. Gilmore Girls could be great as a tv movie, hello CW are you listening?

8I can't wait for the Arrested Development movie! I can see myself going all kinds of crazy over it during opening weekend... so it better really happen, really.
I think SATC translated pretty well to screen (as would AD) in part because it wasn't the typical 3-camera sitcom, complete with a laugh track. The visual style was more film-like to begin with. A Friends movie, on the other hand, would look entirely different from the show, unless they were to shoot the whole thing on a sound stage, which I don't see happening. Plus, that show was dragged on far too long, and didn't leave much to be desired in the end.
9I really wish that there would be a Friends movie but it would be difficult to make without a live audience and a laugh track. I wish they would at least reunite for a one-hour TV special or something...

14I think "Friends" would be a good one. And I can definately see Gilmore Girls happen. Theres a few others i've thought of before, but I cant remember.

15I am all behind the Veronica Mars movie if Rob Thomas would be the brains behind the outfit. I'm not so supportive of a Friends movie...mostly because I think it was a great show that went completely downhill in the last two seasons. Apparently I'm in the minority on this comment board for that one!
16Forget the movies, I'd love to see Gilmore Girls and Arrested Development just return! *sigh* Gilmore Girls just feels so unfinished to me. The Wire would make a great movie, but again I would love to see that show make another season.

20I saw "George/Oscar Bluth" on TV last night and he said it's possible it's happening.
