After Kanye West took to his computer keyboard to blame the organizers of the Bonnaroo Music Festival for his extremely tardy appearance (4:25 a.m. — dang!), I got to thinking about other bad concert situations. While the folks who paid good money to see Kanye at that festival clearly were not thrilled with the major delays, diva behavior isn't the only situation that can irritate a concert-goer.
For example, I went to a festival once where the organizers refused to publish a schedule so there was no way to plan the weekend around the acts I most wanted to see. Another peeve: when really tall people have zero perception of their tendency to block the stage from vertically challenged folks (like me!). I'm also often sad when a band won't perform an encore even when the crowd cheers and chants for what seems like an eternity.
Now it's your turn to rant. What are some of your biggest pet peeves at concerts?

Esprit
DSquared
Killah
When there's taller people in front of me. I'm just a smidge above 5'. At the Rooney concert a few days ago, a girl that was nearly 6' was in front of me!!! So annoying!
1I, too, am "vertically challenged" and share that pet peeve; it never fails that at the last minute a very tall person will find the spot right in front of me to sit/stand. Annoying, indeed!
2I'm 5'8" and my husband is 6'5". We do not like to be in people's way and sometimes it is just plain unavoidable. It's the rude comments from the shorties that irk me. Look, none of us were able to choose how tall or short we would grow up to be, so I guess we all have to deal with each other. Just because I am tall doesn't mean I have to be all the way in the back of the room all the time.
That being said
my biggest annoyance is tardiness. I went to a Lenny Kravitz /
Aerosmith concert that was ridiculous. Lenny came on, rocked down the house and then we waited for 2 hours until Aerosmith finally took the stage. We had to miss the end of the show because
we had to get home to the babysitter before 1:00 AM!
3I don't like paying alot of money for tickets just to hear other people sing more than the singer.
I've seen instances where the singer asks the audience to sing more than them during each song, and then the singer just stop singing so much. They smile and wave the microphone around more. Now that’s annoying.
I see it this way......I mean I came to hear you the singer, sing loud and proud, not the old Joe stranger standing next to me. Oh, and a stranger who just happens to be singing terribly off key and forgetting most of the words so he just makes them up or laughs during that part.
4Tall people in front of me, I love you screamers, and drunk singers. I didn't pay to hear you guys, and at least save it for the encore! I've never dealt with a tardy show appearance, or no show, but that would irk me too.
5people that show up all dressed up and then act all mad when it get crowded....if you are going to a standing only venue, be prepared. I went to a concert a couple years ago and stood next to these girls who were super dressed up(leather pants, heels...)and kept complaining the WHOLE time...it was annoying.
6Other people... drunk people who dance and hit you, people complaining when you're trying to hear the music, girls who are there for their boyfriend even thought they ruin it for everyone around them, being short sucks behind tall people..but I usually ask a guy if I can get in front of them.
7I hate the hard core scene and people who pull you into a mosh pit even though you don't want to be there, you're just a victim of location.
I'm sure there are other things I could think of but eh, I try to ignore it.
People who stand up and dance when EVERYONE else is sitting down, blocking other audience members' views in the process.
8I am 5'2'' and while when I was young it used to bug me when tall people were in front of me, I have changed my views. My boyfriend is 6'4'' and it sucks that he has to spend most of his time worrying about someone else not being able to see. I improvise, I move around, I make it so no matter what, I have a good time. Us shorties just need to improvise!
9Thank you kittyink for seeing the other side of things!
10I'm a tall boy. Unfortch can't help it, but i'm more than willing to let people in front. In terms of pet peeves, mostly bad opening acts.
11Yeah you are Danny!
12I hate hate HATE IT when a band won't play the songs that made them famous.I get that it must be annoying to play a song for years , but hey it made you famous and I didn't come to your show to hear all the songs on your new album that hasn't come out yet ..play something we can all sing along to ...
13I'm pretty tall so I get it but I was at an Iron Maiden concert with my cousin and she's 5'10" and this rude man behind us decided it would be very nice for him to go stand in front of us even though each seat was worth a different amount of money. Even though we were sitting down and weren't bothering anyone, he still loudly complained that we were too tall and should sit in the back even though we paid for the seats at the front!
14I hate it when people talk/laugh throughout the concert loudly as if they're not interested in the show or music.
Unless they won the tickets on the radio and really don't like the music, why the heck would you spend $50+ to talk and laugh through a show.
what a waste. I'm there to hear the music not to hear about what happened at someone else's
work...
15It is funny that this is the topic of discussion as I just got back from a concert where 2 of my pet peeves happened. One, when an outdoor venue is not prepared for weather situations. In VA we have evening summer thunderstorms that can be windy. S, perhaps you should tie up that huge speaker a little better BEFORE the concert starts instead of stopping the show so you can fix it.
My other biggest pet peeve is annoying drunk concert-goers that get up in your personal space. There was a guy tonight who kept putting his hands on me. By the 3rd time I actually turned to him and said "I don't know who you are but you need to keep your hands off of me and BACK OFF!" He was a bit stunned. He then proceeded to go stand behind my friend and grab her instead. Luckily that happened right before they stopped the show to fix the speaker and we had to move because I was about ready to punch him in the teeth.
16ehm...I'm one of the tall people that seem to annoy some of you here
we really
can't help it ok, we were always the kids that had to stand in the back for class photographs, at concerts etc...but we also have a right to enjoy at least once in a while
having said that I am SO glad I am not a shorty
17Lip-sync (by the artist) !
Why would I pay to see a show when listening to the cd would be the same !?!
18im short and while i do always seem to have the tallest guy infront of me its not really a pet peeve because well almost everyone is taller than me and i cant see anyways, never have so who knows what im missing, hehehe.
did go to a show where the headliner took FOREVER to come on and once they did we left after two songs because it was already 1 am and it was a 2 hour drive home.
but the worst is definitely the other people. you know the normal like people have said previously.
i was at billy idol on monday night and the lady next to me was staring at me the whole time. she probably wasnt a fan of my tattoos or something but i just wanted to turn and slap her. i could see her just staring at me the WHOLE night and she wasnt even in her seat (the guy in that seat went to the front), she just came up from who knows where came and stood REALLY close to me. oh and kept hitting me with her HUGE bag, the whole row was empty next to her and she has to stand close to me with her bag hitting me.
at a previous idol show i went to a woman got to frisky with me and grabbed my ass and i shoved her to the ground, i know she was just having a good time and i get it its billy idol but i dont care if you are the same sex as me you dont come up and grab my ass if i dont know you.
but most billy idol fans are the best i got up to the front at a couple of his shows, people would notice short me behind them and say here get infront of me, by the end of the show i was in the second row!
19I've got to speak up for the tall people--sure it's annoying having them stand in front of you, but they really can't help it. My fiance is 6'6" (And I'm 5'2"!) and when we go to a concert he always feels like he has to stay in the back or stand against a wall even if it's a band that he loves and wants to be down front for. I try to make him come to the front but he won't because he feels so bad being in front of people.
20Obnoxious drunk people, people who have no sense of personal space, or people who kick you in the back of the seat (if you are sitting down).
21I have to comment on the short vs. tall discussion - I think it sucks either way. I'm about 5'6", which I guess is average but it still seems to be a problem anyway. It seems to happen that I stand in front of kids or short women (which is fairly common where I live, where there a lot of short Asian women) and then I wind up with huge basketball player-type guys or supermodel-height women standing in front of me, blocking my view. I guess its just the luck of the draw
22In smaller venues, people who yell out songs titles that they want a band to play. Over and over again. They'll get to it when they get a chance to so ya'll need to calm down.
And for bigger venues.... PARKING. I hate the traffic going into them... and the traffic getting out is and absolute nightmare. Eek!
23People who blatantly spill beer down the back of you and your $300 coat at a Spice Girls concert because they think you're too tall, at 5'5" . During "Say You'll be There" no less, the nerve!
24i HATE when they're late. Price was super late at Coachella, came out said hi to the crowd then basically left the stage and other people came out and sang. I was like F-This, I'm out of here. What a loser. I feel like some of these bands/singers get a little big for their britches.
25i'm 5'9 and people always complain about me being too tall, but hey, i paid for the tickets too
!!!!!
26people who unncecessarily push and shove, when a simple "excuse me" as they try to pass through the crowd would have been acceptable - especially when they're teenagers!
27I'm 5"11 and is tired of a lot of pushing and shoving from short girls who seems very aggressive at these events. Just because you're shorter doesn't give you the right to be rude to taller people, its not fun having to stand in the back, you should try it
28I don't mind taller people at a sit down concert, but what happened the other day was that the 6' tall girl kept pushing me and taking pictures, then looking back at me as if I was bothering her!
29I hate it when the venue charges ridiculous amounts of money for alcohol, has inadequate bathrooms for the crowd, or when I can't see the bands I've come to see! Everything else I can easily over look!
30I can deal with tall people, I can almost always find an angle where I can see. I absolutely HATE drunk people at concerts..for example..we went to see VanHalen in February and we had floor seats about 10 rows back. we were aisle seats so we had some room too. The aisle next to us on the other side was at least 5-8 feet away. There was a group of guys, maybe 5 of them, that were so drunk they were stumbling around, almost knocking people over, including me...5-8 feet away! And they were spilling beer everywhere, including all over our aisle and my shoes. It was disgusting...humorous, but disgusting. One guy's pants were falling down so he was showing major a$$ crack the last hour of the show. Not someth
31Not something I wanted to see!
32I also hate the obnoxious people, whether they're drunk or just stupid. I paid $160 to see the Rolling Stones, and it was a general admission, outdoor show, which was such a mistake. The whole time, my little sister and I were stepped on, shoved, yelled at (not directly, just idiots yelling "Gimme Shelter" like Mick could possibly hear them), and having beer spilled on us. It was miserable. The most I've ever spent on a concert, and I could barely even enjoy it! Also, Lance Armstrong and Kevin Bacon were in a special tent in the middle of the field, and some frat-tards kept yelling at THEM the whole time, and getting mad when they wouldn't turn around.
Maybe this is old and boring, but my favorite shows are when I can sit down in comfortable seats. This happened both times I saw Death Cab, and once with Ryan Adams, and it was GREAT. Seated people are way less likely to knock into you, spill beer, scream, etc.
33The audience - 1.I'm 4'11 and somehow always end up behind the tallest people in the world (the worst being that CYHSY at the Barrowlands, I had a moment where I was like "I won't get out of this alive"), 2.loud people chatting in front of the band and/or insulting the band (the Twilight Sad guys seem pretty unlucky with that kind of attitude, sadly), and 3.die-hard fans who sing along so loud you can't hear the concert (two guys like that sort of ruined an Interpol concert to me, I heard them more than Paul Banks, bas*ards).
Of course that makes me sound like an old lady.
34My first concert was a 311 show and the pot smokers next to me nearly ruined the whole thing. Thankfully, I was able to move closer to the stage as a result of that.
35The ticket prices are killing me lately for concerts. But for me I have a few things that irk me.
1) If you are going to be in the pit floor ladies, DONT WEAR HEELS/ WEDGES/BOOTS or a fresh pedicure and then b*tch when you get stepped on. It is a pit. If you dont want to mess up your fancy shoes, dont come in the pit.
2) People who talk on the cell phone during a show, screaming into it telling people where they are. It so rude to the fans who actually appreciate the music and the artist who is performing.
3) Being a drunk does not make you cool at a rock concert. Last year I saw Silverchair at HOB and these idiots were so drunk to the point where they started fighting with someone else and Daniel stopped the music and yelled at them. Mind you it made for an interesting concert experience, but it was not necessary.
4) I think there is an unwritten rule that you do not where the shirt of the band you are going to see to their concert. They know who they are.
36oh and hipflowers, I am an avid 311 fan. It is expected at their concerts but dont worry, its only during the heavy songs like "who's got the herb". Otherwise, their shows are the best I have ever seen.
37yes! artist lip syncing! horrible! who would pay money to hear their CD? we want to hear it live!
38haha hipflowers I just saw 311 last night with Snoop opening and his backdrop is a huge pot leaf. Smoking doesn't bother me though so it's never a problem at concerts. I have to second the heels comment. Some women were in dresses and heels at a 311 concert, it boggles the mind. I also wish the girls that go just to accompany their boyfriend wouldn't bother, because no one wants to watch you looking awkward and not enjoying yourself.
39that I can't afford to go to them!
40My biggest pet peeves are when people around me are soo drunk or out of it that they are being so rude and obnoxious and ruining the show for me, or when the opening acts last 3 hours, and then the band I paid to see only sings for one!!!!!!!!!!
41trvasquez - I concur! I hate when the set list consists primarily of songs off an album that hasn't been released yet. I want to be able to sing along, not just stand there bored.
I went to see Death Cab a few months ago (before their latest album was released), and seriously, 90% of their performance was new songs. yawn.
Concerts & shows just don't entertain me anymore; tickets are too expensive and I just don't have the patience for other people anymore.
42I saw Tom Petty a couple years ago. We had lawn tickets and this really drunk guy near us was stumbling around and PEED on this couple's blanket. While they were sitting there! My friends tried to tell him to leave (the couple wasn't sure what he was doing) but he wanted to start a fight with us. It was so disrespectful (and disgusting!!). Who needs to get that drunk at a concert?
43I hate when guys take their shirt off and its all crowded & you are right next to them. They need to keep it on.
44My biggest pet peeve is ENCORES.
45Do they think we're stupid? They force us to cheer and chant to get them to come back on stage to play their most popular song, when they planned on doing it all along! I mean seriously, the lights don't come up, the backup band stays on stage, and we're meant to believe that our cheering brings them back.
It's the artists' way of forcing you to cheer for them. For once I wish I went to a concert where people DIDN'T yell for an encore, just to see what happens. Would the self-absorbed artist come back on anyway? Uncomfortable silence? Backup band slinking off stage? That would be awesome...
When people boo the opening act... DRIVES ME NUTS. Worse yet, people who throw garbage (or other) on stage.... I can understand flowers, bras and perhaps even panties but full PET bottles or beer bottles... c'mon people, have some class...
46I just wish shows would start earlier. Gosh, I guess I'm getting old! Haha.
47Oooh, and general admission shows with no seating... Standing through more than one band can be brutal!
48Reading through the other comments, I just wanted to add that I am short (5'1" on a bad hair day) and although being stuck behind tall people sucks (especially tall sweaty men in mosh pits with no shirts on), everyone has just as much a right to be there. And besides, most of the time you're there to hear the music, no?
49i'm under 5' tall and my best friend is almost 6' tall, so i stand in front of him and people are generally pretty nice to get out of my way - sometimes even letting me stand in the front row in front of them - they can see just as well anyway, so what is it to them? this one venue i like that has a lot of good indie concerts has a bar at the back and food service to the many tables around the standing area, so we always reserve a table and order pizza and have a pretty good comfy view of the stage!
a pet peeve? when the opening act is really awful! also - when the band/main act is too drunk/stoned to perform well! The Morcheeba concert i went to was so awful because everyone was high and it sounded terrible. i left really early and don't listen to their music much anymore.
