I just love this picture of Jeanne Cooper, the 79-year-old actress who just won her first Daytime Emmy Award for playing the grand dame of The Young and the Restless, Katherine Chancellor. The show has long been a staple in my family, so her win puts a smile on my face.
It also got me thinking: Are you a soap opera fan? If so, let me know in the comments which series you never miss!

I used to watch Port Charles, One Life to Live, and General Hospital. Some ill-advised cast changes and storylines gave me the opportunity to quit. It was a horrible addiction.
1No, not since I started my first office job 10 years ago. But before that, when I was in college and then bartending, I was an ABC soaps addict.
I started watching General Hospital with my stepmother when I was very young, 7 or 8. And then, when I was 14 or so, Kelly Ripa joined All My Children, and I started watching that, too (I knew her in high school). And then I was watching One Life to Live because it was on in between them. And sometimes I watched Loving, but not too often. Then when it got canceled and replaced with Port Charles, I watched that for a while.
2Oh - and I remember watching the Daytime Emmys when Susan Lucci FINALLY won. I'm embarrassed to say that it made me cry a little bit!
3Another World! So sad it's gone!
4No. I have watched Spanish language ones which don't go on for years and years and I preferred them because they had an ending and that meant a happy ending I wouldn't have to wait years to see. I don't watch any at all now though.
5The Young and The Restless all the way! The picture of "Katherine Chancellor" brought a huge smile to my face as well. Thanks for posting it, Buzz!
6Guiding Light! I cannot watch it most days but dip in every so often.
7Days of our Lives! I rarely see it anymore now that i have a 9-5, but whenever i'm home i make sure to see what Sami and all them are up to. It's never that hard to get caught up.
8Soaps drive me insane. The acting and story lines are horrendous!
9General Hospital!
10I staretd watching General Hospital when I was in 10th grade. Then I started working and had to stop. Now I have soap net so on Sundays I can watch the entire weekif I want to. It's kind of cool but I have to admit I usually just watch the Friday episode because that's the cliffhanger and you can totally figure out what happened the rest of the week in one hour
11Boooooring! I'd rather watch HGTV any day!
12I used to watch Days of Our Lives with my mom but now we both work all day. She still tries to catch up on Soap Net but I don't have any interest.
13my soap opera obsession started when i was little, watching with my grandma. i was hooked and years later planned my college classes around my favorite ones - All My Children, One Life to Live, and General Hospital. I cried when Mona died, was fascinated with Vickie went psychotic, and loved the Duke/Anna couple. Oh, the good ol days. Now I'm too busy with work and family to even catch an episode.
14a long, long time ago i watched General Hospital, One Life to Live and sometimes Days of our Lives. Now i can't stand them and won't even stop on them if nothing else is on.
15I used to watch GH regularly but then it got even nuttier than it was before! i still think Sonny is HOT though haha
16Before I started this office job, last summer I used to watch Days and Passions religiously even though I knew it was mindless crap. I couldn't tear myself away!
17days of our lives! it's the only one i've faithfully watched for a while (though sometimes i wonder why...oh wait, jay kenneth johnson).
when i was a high school senior, i watched the 30-minute soap (i don't remember the name now) at lunch...b/c i thought the boys in the teen storyline were cute...ha! in college, my roomie made me watch Y&R with her, but i stopped watching it after we moved out of the dorm
18General Hospital!!...until I got a real job.
19haha I watch Young and The Restless and occasionally watch Days of our lives.
20my sister used to watch Days of our Lives, so during summer and breaks we'd always watch it. I have to say EJ is pretty damn hot. But the storylines are so out there I can't help but laugh. It's almost like a a joke.
21Yay for Katherine!
Needless to say my family is a
little addicted to that show as well.
22I was watching Y&R before I could even talk
I don't anymore but I used to watch Passions.
I thought it was hilarious. So
bad, it's funny.
23I have been a fan of All My Children, One Life to Live and General Hospital since 1980 or around the time Luke and Laura hooked up. I try to watch them steadily now, since SOAPNET is on the air. In my opinion soaps beat reality shows any day and that is all I see, reality shows when I surf channels. I like it when they get campy or over the top in some storylines. I love Law and Order series as well, but with teh writer's strike there were barely any new episodes. Big fan of Scrubs, My Name is Earl, 30 Rock, The Office as well. I believe those are the only shows I watch.
I cried too when Susan Lucci FINALLY won an Emmy!!!
24Yep! when I get the chance I watch
All My Children
One Life to Live
and General Hospital
25I watched All My Children and One Life to Live all through college. That was when I was home for my lunch/nap break.
26I was raised on Young and the Restless!
27Don't watch any, but my mom named me after Victoria Lord on One Life to Live. Tells ya something about her. No, I don't feel lucky.
28I have never ever seen one.
29Was raised on Mac and Rachel from Another World, in recent years was a diehard JoVan (John/Evangeline) but when Renee Elise Goldsberry left One Life to Live I pretty much quit watching any soaps.
30I don't have time to watch soap operas when I'm in college but I usually watch All My Children and sometimes The Young and the Restless. Those were the shows my mom used to watch...
31I used to watch all the soaps on CBS, now I can't believe I used to. I blame my mother. I was young and had no control over the remote. LOL.
32General Hospital - I quit for many years, but with Tivo I can catch it a few times a week and just fast forward through the storylines that I'm not interesting in.
33I also loved Another World in highschool. I was sad when that went off the air.
Ick, no! I can't stand them!
34I use to watch Days of Our Lives
35One Life to Live and The Young & The Restless.
I used to watch Passions and All My Children also...
36nope. never watched and never will.
37I used to watch "Days" and "Y&R" in the late 80's. Every now and then I'll turn it on to see who's still on there. It's amazing to see what plastic can do to those old hags. Haha!
38I hate them now, but I used to love Days of Our Lives and General Hospital when I was in middle and high school.
39Addicted to Bold and the Beautiful!
40When I was in college, I was addicted to All My Children...I would even make sure I didn't have classes or other commitments at noon so I could go home and watch it! Now I watch One Life to Live and General Hospital on Fridays (my day off) - I've found you can totally keep up only watching once a week. They are so great - no reruns!
41Yes, I watch General Hospital everyday (dvr's are a blessing!) and I usually watch One Live To Live maybe 2-3 days a week.
By the way, Jeanne Cooper's award speech was hilarious! Something like "Everyone has the best director, etc, so I want to thank my lousy director, lousy writers, lousy cast... But we're still number 1!" Haha, loved her!
42don't get mad at me but the acting is so poor and the plots so retarded I don't get how anyone could enjoy these shows????
43i love Korean soaps
44Hello people- just cause you work doesn't mean that you can't watch. Have you heard of a VCR or soapnet??? I watch Y&R and Days. If you record you can skip the commercials and it's half as long.
45Passions! There's nothing like zombies, witches, and crazy hat wearing monkeys on daytime tv.
46Guiding Light; I'm a big Reva fan
47general hospital all the way! ive watched it since the day i was born, and will always fall back on it when i need something to watch. soaps are fun. they are mindless. they are like old friends. sure, its a guilty pleasure. everyone has them. but soap fans will actually admit it. haha
48I love Y&R.
49I don't have time...
I don't like bad acting...
and outrageous plots...
so no. i'm not into soaps!
