Carolyn Jessop's memoir Escape will be adapted for the big screen, with Katherine Heigl attached to star and produce, Variety reports. Jessop, whose testimony helped convict polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs, "was born into the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints sect. At 18 she married a man 32 years her senior; at 35, she fled with her eight children."
Another memoir focusing on this same Warren Jeffs case was also recently acquired by a movie studio, Elissa Wall's Stolen Innocence. Apparently this particular case is becoming a favorite headline for filmmakers to rip.
Do you think Heigl will do well with this weighty drama?

I can totally see her as a sort of desperate character
I think she will do a great job and good for her for doing something different and also bringing attention to a subject that not many people know about!
I just don't like Heigl at all and I don't think she can act.
I personally think she's a great actress and I'm glad she's taking on a different kind of role. I'll definitely see it, I love Katherine.
If only she could act as well as she smokes. Love her husband's music though!
After seeing Carolyn interviewed, I would not have cast KH - interesting.
Although I know they're totally, totally different (I'm from Idaho), KH was raised Mormon in Utah so she won't be unfamiliar with the subject. She'll be fine.
I hope that the ongoing criminal cases aren't going to face the same problems AlphaDog created... publicity can create claims that there is no way to have a fair trial... then again, more people learning about this culture may make them better able (ha, only if the movies are accurate)...
No way.. She's too lightweight an actress. I don't think she could carry off the emotional trauma and turmoil.
I don't think she can pull it off, she is not a very good actress imo.
I think she'll do well. this sounds like an interesting movie.
I think she will do great in this role. Her acting was excellent in 'Love Comes Softly' which was about a very young pioneer who suddenly becomes widowed, and the challenges and decisions she had to make in order to survive the winter.
IMO she doesn't have the acting ability for this. Still can't believe she got an emmy last year, especially edging out SO & CW who are both far better actors.
i loved her as the desperate frontierwoman in loves enduring promise that series really showed her acting range.
I personally think that Natalie Portman would have been GREAT in this role. For Elissa Wall's movie I would cast Arianna Richards (Jurrasic Park)
I think that Katherine will do a great job in this movie. I too watched 'Love Comes Softly' and the role she assumed in the movie took on a different dimension- a dimenison different to that of Izzie Stevens.
I hope she does very well. I've read the book like three times and every time it gets better. I've also read Stolen Innocence by Elissa Wall and that book was really good also.. A lot of people really don't know what's going on in Utah (Hildale the border between Utah and Arizona) and Colorado...right under our noses...It's disgusting, but the books keep you reading because they sound like sci fi, but these stories are someone's lives and I just couldn't put them down. I hope these people realize someday that Mormonism is not a real religion and to not believe their so called Prophets because all they are doing is changing the Bible and saying that the Bible is wrong and spreading blasphemy.
