With the weather getting warmer and the days getting longer, I've got Summer travel on the brain. For me, travel often means sitting for hours on a plane, reading a book, or getting sucked into whatever movie is playing over the airplane's system. (Hey, next time I'm stuck on the tarmac, maybe I'll try Twittering with customer service like our Cotorture girls did!)
Now, some airlines have options for purchasing movies on flights, but when I asked you about it, most of you said you weren't sure you'd be buying. So, what is your favorite way to entertain yourself on a flight?

JetBlue is my airline of choice and I LOVE the Direct TV at each seat.
1I buy magazines at the airport and listen to my iPod.
2I fortunately pass out within 5 minutes of being on the plane - and then I read if I wake up, and am usually back asleep within 15 minutes again.
3I doubt many people will pay for in-flight entertainment, since we're having to pay to bring luggage on board now, and on some airlines, even pay for a Coke or juice!
4i'm always a fan of the free movies that are showing. i usually try to fly on Continental and their first class cabin a lot of the time has options on what movies you can choose to watch so that's great. when i flew to hawaii recently, there were multiple channels to watch different movies so that was great.
5A better question for me is what DON'T I do for entertainment while flying? Anything to distract me from the fact that I'm stuck on a plane
6For me, it's a combination of several of the choices. Definitely got to have my ipod for music, but also magazines or books so I have something to read! I normally don't watch whatever is showing on the TV's because I'm usually just not interested.
7I like to read, books or magazines. Depends on how long the flight is too. We're going to Oahu in Aug, so we might bring movies to play on the laptop.
8I do almost anything on the plane - I buy tons of magazines at the airport, watch movies on my Ipod/airplane's TV, listen to music, read a book. I usually have to have a variety of things to do or else I get bored. Although I LOVE airports and traveling, I absolutely can NOT sleep on a plane. For instance, I flew out of San Francisco airport last June and our flight to London left at 1pm. The flight is about 8-10 hours (from what I remember) and London is 8 hours ahead of the Pacific Time Zone in the US so I took two sleeping pills so I could sleep on the plane. It didnt work! Then we arrived in London around 7 am and went sightseeing the whole day. I was SO jetlagged.
9for me, it depends on how long the flight is. but if the inflight is something that's acceptable, i'll generally watch it. if not, i always have reading with me!
10I'm glad to see that a good old book is still the top choice...
11whatever's on the flight for free. BUT since I'm flying soon on an airline that doesn't provide free entertainment, I might bring my laptop and watch a movie
Or my iPod or both...
12I wish I could read on a flight, but I get nauseous when I try!
13I spend my plane rides catching up on movies and tv. Sometimes if the inflight movies are good, I'll watch them, but usually I bring my laptop and a backpack with dvds, powercord and a back-up battery.
14I look out the window and day-dream. I can't believe I'm the only one who does this. Car trips too. I bring books but rarely like to read them while we are moving. I always feel people have to be entertained during every given second of the day. Like walking 24-7 with iPod, etc.
15If I'm not feeling sick from flying (ugh) I'll usually listen to music on my iPod, watching whatever's free on the flight, and read a magazine.
16Vogue and cheap red wine. I can barely make my monthly trip to Chicago without them. For longer flights I'll watch tv shows on my iphone.
17For me, it definitely, definitely depends on the duration of the flight. For all the London-San Francisco (or vice versa) flights I used to have to take, sleep was really the only option. I stayed up the whole night before to get everything done, and then I slept through almost the whole flight. This served 2 purposes: (1) It made a long flight really go by quickly, and (2) No jetlag!!! Because by staying up the night before, you are getting onto the new schedule. And I have to be utterly exhausted to sleep on planes because sleeping pills don't work for me either, so that was the only thing that made me tired enough for it to work! But the key is keeping yourself really busy the night before so you don't fall asleep then.
On shorter flights, I agree with kaytwo44. I do everything: watch DVDs on my laptop, listen to the ipod, flip through the Sky Mall (lol), look at magazines I brought, or read a book.
18I am such an uber procrastinator, that I pack the night before a flight and get all of my catch up sleep during the flight. My dreams are plenty enough entertainment for me
19my nintendo ds!
...or a book/magazine
20I nap fo sho.
21First, I love reading whatever magazine the plane has in the seat pocket, and then I look through the sky mall catalogue...I love looking at all the gadgets. Then I usually dig in to a big pile of celeb magazines. I never read them except when I'm flying, because I get so caught up in the celeb news that the time passes quickly.
22Porn! Kidding.
23Haha #23!
I usually watch the movies they offer free. A chance to catch up on the movies I didn't get to watch in the cinema! And I save on DVDs.
24magazines and ipod and sleep when I fly as a passenger! Sometimes if I am on a longer flight I watch the movie
25my ds! i also use it when i'm bored other places.
26It's a nice surprise to watch whatever they have for free, although if I get movies I don't like I think I'll just take a nap or listen to my iPod.
27I love catching up on my magazines while I'm in transit, its helpful since I don't have a lot of time at home to read peacefully with my daughter running around lol.
28i nap, i eat, i listen to music, if i had a video device i'd watch videos...
29oh, and magazines as well.
30I listen to my iPod and read. My flights have been only few hours, I have only travelled in Europe.
I do those things on train also, it takes 6 hours on train when I come to visit from college. Lately I have also used computer on train, I can watch movies and surf the net.
31I love Virgin America's Red. It's got so much great content!
