You know, I really want to like CBS' Swingtown, which premieres tonight at 10 p.m. I didn't make it one of my Top Ten Reasons to Keep Your TV On This Summer for nothing. But, unfortunately, the network's promo department doesn't seem to be doing the show many favors.
My evidence: the following video, a sneak peek of tonight's premiere, in which main couple Susan and Bruce Miller move to the suburbs and discover a whole new world of drugs and sex awaiting them. The video sets up what's going to happen in tonight's episode, which is fine — but it's made in the style of one of those seven-minute Sopranos videos, which seem to work best for established series whose viewers are ready to poke a little fun at a show's conventions. Applying it to a new show just makes Swingtown seem silly — which, reviews suggest, is one thing it isn't.
My hope remains that the show will be smarter than this video suggests, and I'll be tuning in tonight to see for myself. Anyone with me? To watch the sneak peek, just read more.

The Swinging Seventies. Somehow I managed to miss out on all of this suburban "fun." Looks interesting, but I'll take Man Men any day over this one.
1I think I might check it out. It looks pretty interesting. Hopefully even though I have no reference point for the seventies I'll still be in on the jokes.
2Been there but didn't do that (70s)! Looks awful actually. Will be interested to see the reviews. Hard to believe CBS passed on the action filled and romantic Moonlight and invested in this debauchery!
3I'll watch it, there's not much else on!
4That promo is awful. I'm definitely watching tonight regardless.
5Promos often don't do features justice. As always, I'll need to check this one out for myself.
6It looks terrible. I was a kid in the 70's so I don't remember anything like that, but it really doesn't interest me at all. But neither do lots of popular shows like Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives and Gossip Girl.
7lynnrxgal — that's what's really interesting about this one. The reviews have generally been pretty positive (a few really good, and most OK). But I haven't liked any of the promos at all! Maybe CBS just doesn't know what to do with it? I'm really curious to see what an episode is like.
8I really want to see this show, and I will DVR it, but that promo was just awful.
9It always looks like people in the 70s smelled like ass so I don't really wanna watch them bnumpin' nasties.
10people from the 70s smelled like ass?
11i dont even understand that sentence! lol
Im definitely gonna try to watch this, i love 70s inspired shows and this one fits right in!
Greeeeat another show glamorizing Marital unfaithfulness and drugs. JUST what we need.
12I watched...I was disturbed, but I may watch again anyway. Definitely not something that needs glamorized, though.
13A bit cheesy. Then again, what else is there to watch this summer? This show would definitely be canned if it had premiered in the fall.
