While the Sex and the City movie is smashing box office records, it seems like a good time for Kim Cattrall to plot her next move. And plot she is, with today's news that the alter ego of one Samantha Jones will produce and star in a new HBO comedy.
The show bears the slightly icky title of Sensitive Skin — though it's an adaptation of a British series of the same name, so I guess I can't blame Cattrall for that choice. Its plot and main character sound right up Cattrall's alley: According to the Hollywood Reporter, the show "centers on a middle-aged wife and mother in New York who rediscovers her sexuality and begins to question her place in the world and the choices she has made in life." Fun fact: The BBC version starred Joanna Lumley, best-known as Patsy in Absolutely Fabulous.
The original show will be released on DVD for the first time in August, so we'll have plenty of time to check it out before Cattrall's version hits the air. But for now, tell me: Are you ready to see Cattrall heading up her own series? And does this sound like a good role for her — or just more of the same?

for the record, i saw the movie and loved it but they look old as heck and need to stay out the sun or cover that crap up! it would be fine if they weren't trying to act like they haven't aged. but they have. skin care is essential people!
1It will be hard NOT to associate her with Samantha if she is playing a similiar roll.
2Unless they make her look totally different, along with dramatically changing how she talks (topics, candor, etc)... then maybe?
i don't know how i feel about this one. i think that it might be something nice and new for her to do - and she won't be in anyone's shadow...
the challenge is that a lot of BBC shows just haven't done well when made into U.S. versions - so she's fighting an uphill battle here i think.

4I would definitely watch it, but you know what? I want it to be a comedy. HBO's dramas are great, but they can do more with comedies, I think. It's the main reason why I miss SATC; we get a little but of it with Entourage, but I need more! Can you pass this memo into the Sensitive Skin producers, Buzz? Thanks!
5Well seeings how the only reason Kim C agreed to do the movie was because they promised her this show - I guess I'm willing to check it out. However, she wasn't my favorite character and the fact that she was so demanding about her terms of doing the movie, I'm a little turned off. But I'll give it a chance...
