Wow. And. . . wow. The season finale of Lost was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. It was totally intense and spooky and sweet and gave us some answers. My head is still reeling a little from the two full jam-packed hours.

There's no way to process it all right now, but we might as well get started! To check out some of my thoughts on the season finale (spoilers ahead, of course), read more.
- OK, it's not in chronological order but I just have to type-squeal this: Desmond and Penny! Together forevah! "I love you, Penny, and I'll never leave you again." I was cheering during that moment.
- On the other end of the spectrum, definitely cried like a baby while Sun watched the boat explode. Sun's bloodcurdling screams are haunting me.
- So, the whole episode we hear about "Jeremy Bentham," who apparently went to see each of the Oceanic Sixers. Kate says to Jack, "When he came to me and I heard what he had to say, I knew he was crazy. But you, you believed him. Him of all people."
And Jack responds, "That was the only way to keep you safe, you and Aaron." - Jeremy Bentham also went to see Walt (about whom Hurley remarks, in a bit of an understatement, "Gettin' big, dude.").
- I think it's funny when Sawyer calls Jack "Sundance" (a reference to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, I assume), but I laughed out loud at "Kenny Rogers" for Frank Lapidus.
- The whispers are back in full force this episode! During the Keamy shootout scene, but also on the boat just before Christian Shepard appears and says, "You can go now, Michael." And then the boat blows up and the screaming begins.
- After their whole "miracles!" "no miracles!" argument, Locke insists that Jack lie to everyone back on the mainland about the island. "Lie to them, Jack, if you do it half as well as you lie to yourself, they'll believe you."
- Rose calls Miles "shorty"! Miles is so smug and snide, I want Rose to take him down a few pegs.
- This exchange between Miles and Charlotte seemed like an SNL parody of Lost:
Charlotte: "What do you mean, Get back here?"
Miles: "What do I mean?" as he shiftily walks away. - Also: Charlotte's been to the island before, and was maybe born there??
- We get to see more of the orientation video we saw a while ago online. Dr. Edgar Halliwax mentions the Casimir effect, which allows "the Dharma Initiative to conduct unique experiments in both space and time."
- My favorite exchange:
Locke: "Hey, was he talking about what I think he was talking about?"
Ben: "If you mean time traveling bunnies, then yes." - This line: "If you think I'm bluffing, may I remind you how your daughter looked when she bled out, face down in the grass," made it very satisfying to watch Ben wail on Keamy. What an insanely evil dude. Though I guess when his daughter died Ben stopped caring about not killing innocent people. He didn't care at all that he blew up the boat.
- It's an interesting little Lost in Translation-type moment when we're not allowed to hear what Sawyer whispers to Kate just before he passionately kisses her and jumps from the helicopter.
- So, in the future, Hurley's playing chess with Eko and Sayid appears to take Hurley "somewhere safe."
- I love Sun so much. She finds Charles Widmore. "You and I have common interests. When you are ready to discuss them, call me. As you know, we're not the only ones who left the island."
- Um, drinking rum while a topless Sawyer washes up on the shore in front of me? That's a lot like a dream I have sometimes.
- Ben tells John, "Whoever moves the island can never come back." And then he says, with what sounds like real sincerity, "Goodbye John, I'm sorry I made your life so miserable."
- Richard Alpert: "Hello John. Welcome home." Wow, Locke really is the new Ben!
- Ben, muttering in the icy place where he pushes the thing and moves the island, "I hope you're happy now, Jacob."
- I know it ends up being just a dream, but I want to know what the person says on the phone to Kate just before she catches Claire in Aaron's room. That scene was freaky!
- Anyone else catch the commercial for Octagon Global Recruiting during the episode? Check out the website they mentioned here.
- "Jeremy Bentham" a.k.a. John Locke told Jack that a lot of "very bad things" have happened and that they're all Jack's fault.
- Then Ben says they all have to go back to the island, but that "the island won't let you come alone." He tells Jack that he has ideas, but they all have to go back to the island together — and that includes Locke's corpse. It's interesting that if they do this, they'll have to drag Locke's corpse around, the way he dragged around his father's.
- I have so many questions still! Most of them revolve around who is able to die and who isn't — both on the island and off.

I gasped and screamed and freaked out when they showed Locke in that coffin. Mind-blowing is an understatement.
So, the Octagon thing will come up at Comic Con (the dates they showed in San Diego are for that) — I may have to do some on-site recon!
Question: When the island moved, everyone on it experienced a great flash of light. Didn't that happen in an earlier season finale?
Also, it broke my heart to see Sawyer jump out of the helicopter, but I was so relieved when he swam up to shore. Him not wearing a shirt = ratings gold!
1Oh man so much going on!! I LOVED THIS EPISODE! I cried when Jin blew up and when Penny and Des found each other. YAY for someone actually being happy!
2Okay so where are Faraday and that boat? Just floating around out there? bummer for him. No one important was on that boat, so it doesn't bode well for him making a comeback.
I'm bummed that Sun hates Jack so much. I feel like sh'es going to do something bad.
Did anyone see the Alt. Endings? I would've CRIED if Sawyer or Des were in the coffin.
Jeremy Bentham - Locke's Alias - was a real person in the late 1700's. He was an english philosopher, policitcal radical and animal rights advocate. Interesting that Locke chose that name. Or something chose it for him.
Why didn't they take the heart rate monitor off Keamy and try to put it on themselves?? His must've been VERY fancy because any kind of jumping and such my heart rate monitor loses sigal haha
Oh and I'm glad that Rose stayed behind. But why did Charlotte and Miles? I've heard a couple people now say that maybe Charlotte is really Annie, Bens' little girlfriend. Interesting Idea. That story was left very open We don't know what happened after they were children. Here's my theory on her. I think she survived past the purge, maybe she died in childbirth later on (which is why Ben stole Alex and pretended it was his). When Juliet first got to the island, the mean psychiatrist lady told her that she "looked just like her" maybe referring to Annie?
Here's a little tidbit:
On the DVD commentary track for "The Man Behind the Curtain" Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse describe Annie and Alexandra as the two most significant women in Ben's life. Annie is described as a character that is going to play a "huge part" in upcoming storylines: "Annie is going to prove to be very significant in Ben's life," and that even the island's volcano will be "slightly less important than Annie, but still seismic.
PS I TOTALLY want to go to Comic Con now!!!!!
3http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2203errLVY GO to this link if you want to know what the phone call said!
This episode was amazing! I have SOOO many quesitons! When Ben says they all have to go back, does that mean Frank and Desmond too?
Did Locke have to move the island again is that how he got off the island and what is with the name change?
Where did Daniel and the other rafties go?
Is Jin really dead. Oh yeah, those are just the tip of the freaking iceburg!
4Renees3 — I had the SAME THOUGHT about the heart monitor! I was like, you guys are still alive, put the thing on your own arm! But I figured there's some reason for not doing that.
And wow, that phone call thing is creepy.
Yeah, I was thinking Comic-Con, too, when it said "San Diego" and those dates in July. Can I come with you, Geek? Let's make it a Sugar field trip.
5The finale was SO GOOD! I've been online all morning reading the message boards on ABC's Lost section.
I thought the same thing, Renee - why didn't they at least TRY to take the detonator off of Keamy!?
6Geek- I noticed the same thing about Comic-con right away and yeah, I will so be there! Can't wait!
I didn't put it together last night, but on Lostpedia it links Ben putting the coat on and moving the island to the flash forward where he shows up in the desert wearing the coat with his arm cut - "The Shape of Things to Come." Whoa!!
Buzz, according to Lostpedia, the voice on the phone said to Kate in reverse: ""The island needs you. You have to go back before it's too late."
I squeed for Desmond and Penny and bawled for Sun. I really didn't think Jin was actually dead. Soooo sad.
7Is it stupid of me to try to be figuring out a way Jin could have lived?
8P.S. I'm starting to think that Lost is actually produced by David Lynch.
9I just loved everything about this episode. I am growing more and more fond of Ben. Buzz - I'm with you: Sawyer coming out of the water should be what all great dreams are made of. I can't figure out who the other man Sun is after...Ben? Jack? What is she doing with Whidmore? I was devasted with the loss of Jin, and can't imagine that he's made it. Desmond and Penny were wonderful; finally a happy ending! Do you think we'll see more of Desmond? "See you in another life" just like he said the first season.
The one thing I took away from this episode is Jack's role. He is clearly the hero of the show. However, as with most hero story-lines, he has to hit rock bottom, which we see he has 3 years after their return from the island. I believe that he will become the hero once more as he locates the other Oceanic survivors and takes them back to the island. I feel like I finally have a grasp on where the story is going.
10What makes you think that Sawyer asked Kate to take care of Aaron? Did I miss something? I thought that whatever he whispered to her was what she had to take care of on the phone when Jack caught her in the future. And I kind of assumed that it had something to do with Clementine, Sawyer's daughter with Cassidy.
11Oh, and I think we'll see more of Des. Because Ben is going to try to kill Penny.
12Buzz, according to Doc Jensen at EW, the voice on the phone says -- backwards -- "''The island needs you....You have to go back before it's too late.''" to Kate before she finds Ghost Claire in Aaron's room. But
13Sooo good! So much to take in. I was screaming for Locke to put on the heart monitor. I don't know why it would matter who's heart beat it was, seems a little too technical for that sort of contraption!
Anyway, Sun screaming for Jin gave me chills, that scene was amazing and heartbreaking at the same time.
I will miss Lost so much & can not wait for the next season...it really has me wondering where they will pick up at the start. Will it be 3 years ahead, or most recent, showing the island people right after it moved, etc. Either way, I can't wait to find out!
14Whip- I know you're right about Des, that we'll see him again (hopefully protecting Penny from Ben), but I'd be sooo content if last night was the last time we saw him. I was SO HAPPY with the way that story ended up.
15Whip — I just assumed at the time that he was telling Kate to take Aaron because he was the one to find Aaron without Claire and he has been so protective in these past few episodes. It was just my assumption. You're probably right about it being about Clementine and whatever he asks Kate to do for him when she gets home.
16Suns screams were bone chilling...Did she have to lose Jin, so that Desmond could find Penny? BTW, Jack seemed so indifferent about Jin being left behind on the boat.
I NEVER would have guessed that Jeremy Bentham was Locke...I need to know how he dies and how he left the island...His chat with the Oceanic 6 would be great to see...esp with Walt.
I'm so sad the season is over...8 long months til season 5 *************sigh***************
17As far as Farraday and his raft, they probably went with the island because they were within the perimeter of the island/Dharma's land. Remember The Looking Glass station where Charlie died? It's pretty far out from the Island, but I would assume that anything within the perimeter of that moved. Also, you know, islands extend underwater far beyond their beaches, so barring the Looking Glass property line, the island move would move the entire island, even the parts we don't see.
And as far as Keamy's heart monitor is concerned, I think it was physically wired to his heart, thus removing it wouldn't have done any good because the doc on the boat had fixed it permanently to his body. Although I will consent that Locke wouldn't have known it was wired to Keamy, so he still could have reasonably tried to remove it and have it read his heartbeat to save the Freighties.
18So others may have mentioned this before.......but remember last season, i think it was "through the looking glass" episode Desmond tells Charlie he had to push the button to stop the blinking light, and that he saw Claire get on a helicopter w/ Aaron. well that OBVIOUSLY didn't happen....is this the only time one of Desmond's vision didn't play out accurately? hmmmm
More related to last night's episode....holy sh*t! i was so surprised to see locket in the casket. how does he got off the island? did he have to "move" the island again?.
also i can't totally remmeber, but the episode where it showed all the "rescue" team : charlotte, faraday, lupidas, and miles, was it a flash forward or a flashback for faraday? remember it showed him w/ his "caretaker" watching the video footage of the plane in the ocean. that must've been a flashback right? but if it was a flashforward does that mean the people in his little boat also get rescued? this has probably already been discussed in the past but i was just thinking of this.
19Oh my gosh, I just thought of how Jin could be alive! Well Sort of. What if Faraday went an picked him up???? I mean we don't know what happened to that boat of people, I just assumed they would perish at sea. But I mean I would assume that Daniel would drive over there and see if there were any survivors. What if they picked up Jin and them made it somewhere else??
20i went online and the voice on the phone said, 'the island needs you, you need to go back before it is too late'....
Oh! that was such a good episode!! i cried when Penny and Desmond got together and watched in horror as Sun watched Jin explode.
21WOW WOW WOW!!!
LOST has outdone themselves once again! FABULOUS finale!
I don't know if anyone noticed but ABC did an extended version of the press conference and Jack named Boone, Libby, and Charlie as the other survivors who died. That was interesting!
By the time the show was over I didn't know if we were in the past present or future anymore!
SWOOOOON, at Sawyer for jumping out the plane and saving Hurleys life. Did anyone else notice Hurley looking out the window like he didn't hear the pilot say they needed to lose a couple hundred pounds? Sawyer totally did that for Hurley!
I also thought that Sawyers request was regarding his daughter. We'll see.
Apparently Jeremy Bentham was an 18th century philosopher and John Locke was also a philosopher so it would make sense that Locke picks that alias... Oh the brilliant minds of LOST writers and the even more brilliant fans who figured that out months ago. These people need to work for the CIA, FBI, there are some seriously brilliant people who watch this show.
Sun has always been hard core I can toally see her hooking up with Widmore becasue she's gonna find her man!
It's interesting that when Sun talks to Widmore it has to be like 3-5 years in the future because Sun was on the phone talking to her daughter..who would have to be old enough to talk.
I see Dr. Candle had a real arm...again, on this video and I believe a new name.
So I'm dying to know what is all the bad stuff that happens after they leave? That must be crazy...did Locke have to move the island again is that how he left...did the losties teach Locke how to leave the island like Ben always did? How did Locke die?
They could have done a lot more with Michael and Walt...
Oh, we spent so much time figuring how out how to get off the island now I can't wait for them to get back!
22i was so glad the ben wailed on keamy and found jack to be so sad. so i thought locke's name was always john locke..remember when richard came to visit him when he was a child?? didn't he call him john? where did jeremy bentham come from? and how did he get off the island? ooooh i want the new season to start already
23Oh I cried my ass off. I was with a buch of friends & totally ruined my makeup but I didn't care at all.
MY GOD I LOVE this show!
24I honestly cried with Desmond and Penny saw each other. It was so emotional! My husband totally recognized the Portugese guys who had been at the listening station!
Do you think Jin is still alive? He could have jumped off the freighter before it blew up!
I'm also trying to figure out if we are EVER going to see the kids from Flight 815 that were kidnapped the first night on the island - shouldn't they be with Richard?
And I totally think that Sawyer told Kate to find his daughter and take care of her. I'm sure of it.
Did anyone else notice that Claire looked horrible in that dream? She looked bloated and scary!
25Ok, so the same sort of flash happened at the end of Season 2 when Desmond turned the key in the hatch. Could there by another way to move the island? That could be how Walt and Michael got off of the island in their boat. . .
26I was SO sad when Jin died! I know they kind of alluded to that earlier in the season but I was really hoping he just got stuck on the island somehow and that Sun could eventually come back for him.
The moment with Desmond and Penny made up for it! I was SO glad they reunited!!! For a moment I thought Desmond wasn't going to make it and I was going to have to vow to not watch the show anymore even thought that probably wouldn't happen.
I loved the exchange between Sawyer and Kate! I really wish they'd get together but I know she'll probably end up with Jack. When he washed up on the beach that was pretty cool.
I felt so bad for Daniel and his people in the boat! They totally got shafted! He was being the good guy trying to help and he totally gets stranded in the middle of the ocean with absolutely nothing! I'm assuming they all die? I hope not.
Charlotte is a little shady. I'm interested to see what her and Miles were up to.
The whole ep I was trying to figure out who Jeremy was. I thought maybe he was mentioned earlier and I didn't recall the name. I totally called it during last years season finale though that Locke would be in the coffin. Def interested to see what's up with all that.
27yes where did daniel and the other losties go??? they were out in the water at the same time that the frieghter exploded and the island 'moved'. loved the ripples in the water when the island disappeared. i can't wait to find out what plans sun has with whidmore and AND how they get back on to the island.
28Oh, okay, Buzz.
I thought I'd missed a pretty important nugget there!!
29I totally agree that my favorite line of the night was, "If you mean time traveling bunnies, then yes." I laughed out loud!
30From the Sawyer kiss on I was basically crying like a baby the entire time for various reasons. One second sorrow, one second happiness... what a rollar coaster. I totally guessed Locke was the one in the coffin from the first flashback this episode. Also, Ben looked like an android from Star Trek in that scene in the funeral home.
Apparantly Good Morning America had two other Lost endings on today but I missed them. Hope they are on the internet soon.
I already wanted to go to Comic Con. I live in LA and that weekend is my birthday. Now I really have to go!
31Besides the obvious moments (Sawyer kiss, Penny, etc), my favorite moment was when Ben said "So." It was so perfect. I both love and hate him. That actor deserves an Emmy.
32Ok sorry for posting so much! But I answered my own question. See the other two endings here:
33http://www.redlasso.com/ClipPlayer.aspx?id=aca2495f-f92c-4a42-8bed-c2967...
I know I am probably in the minority, but I felt so bad for Juliet when she was sitting on the beach watching another opportunity to get off the island slip through her hands. I love her and hope she and Sawyer have some jungle love while waiting to be rescued.
What about Charlotte being born on the island and coming back. Is she perhaps Ben's Annie's daughter? That would be interesting.
Oh and God love Rose for telling Miles she was going to keep her eye on him and then calling him Shorty. Gotta love some Rose and Bernard.
34I'm with Geek — with the backward phone call, I was like, "C'mon, this isn't Twin Peaks!"
I want Jin to be alive.
35Fantastic finale...so much to talk about but everyone's pretty much said it all for me!
Just a few points: Sun's screams were totally haunting, I've never loved Sawyer more, and I loved the Desmond/Penny reunion! Also, occasionally this show gets too smart for it's own good...when they said Jeremy Bentham, I knew right away who it had to be (or I was pretty sure anyway) because of the use of another philosopher name...hate when I guess stuff before it happens. Also? Ben rocks.
Also...If Sun blames 2 people...wouldn't it be logical (although that means nothing for this show) for that 2nd person to be Charles Widmore? Can't wait to see where that goes!
36I love Lost. This episode was so good. It made me cry and scream. I love Sawyer and Desmond and Penny. Locke in the coffin, I just screamed. Love Lost.
37I love that you can't truly love or hate anyone on that show. Jack seemed so heartless through the whole episode, but Sawyer jumps out to save them. Such a role reversal from prior.
I wonder what's keeping Miles on the island.
Bethany - you said you felt sorry for Juliet, but didn't she choose to stay there until everyone got off? I think there's got to be some reason she continues to stay. Does she feel guilty? Is she scared she'll go back home and they'll have forgotten about her? This will be interesting to see play out. I felt more sorry that Jack (again) chose Kate over her.
38Am I the only one who thinks Keamy is hot?
39wait, i dont think jin is dead b/c in 'ji yeon', when sun went into labor and jin was buying the giant panda. then after she had the baby hurley came to visit and they went to his 'grave'. so he must have jumped off the boat or something
40Yes Vivibear. He has a really weird mouth.
Anyways, for what its worth. I thought this finale was kind of a let down. However, overall I thought this was the best season of Lost thus far and want to buy the dvd when it comes out. The reason why I say it was a let down is that with the new format of Flash Forward it reveals too much and I was not suprised at all by any of last nights show. You knew Desmond would find Penny, you knew Jin died (from Sun going to his grave), you knew the people who get off the island, and you could figure out the rest. I thought there were much better singular episodes this season (Desomnd/Penny "Constant") and others.
So do we think the island was moved geographically or chronologically? if you notice the others never age (visiting Locke early on and Ben not aging)...
I am concerned about where else they can take this show for next season... feel like a lot of questions have been answered and leaves me wondering what else they have left to explore. However, if I know these Lost writers they are a wily bunch and will amaze and intrigue.
Micro
41laceykk23, when Jin was buying the giant Panda in Ji Yeon, that was the past. He was buying the panda to give to Mr. Paik's client, not to Sun.
He may not be dead, though, just not for that reason!
42bethany - i felt so bad for juliet too!!! i like her character, even if she can be a b*tch lol. and i'm positive i heard sawyer say "clementine" when he was whispering to kate on the helicopter. as for that octagon commercial, i totally thought it was real!!! i was seriously like "maybe i should look them up, since i need a real job" then i heard the 'not for money' part was was like, screw that lmao!!!
i'm dying to know where sayid took hurley, and what exactly happened to the people left on the island. it sounded like sayid killed locke, the whole "they're saying it was suicide" comment from him.
as for where lost is going, i think read somewhere that the last season (six?) will revolve around jack's perjury trial. not sure if it's true as it's obvious i'm pretty gullable (octagon commercial?!?!) but that could be an interesting plotline.
43So much went on this episode that I can't remember everything but I agree with most of what you said above, Buzz. These are the moments that stood out to me the most:
- I bawled like a baby when Desmond was reunited with Penny. They are my second favorite couple on Lost after Charlie and Claire.
- I also cried when Sun cried out for Jin when the ship blew up. Her screams were chilling, give Yunjin Kim an Emmy immediately! I really hope Jin is not dead.
- I was not that shocked by the ending because I was looking over spoilers just a couple minutes before the "big reveal" but I don't really care because I don't like Locke that much. Something tells me though that his death is not all that it appears to be.
- The scene with Claire visiting Aaron was creepy.I feel so bad for Aaron that he doesn't know his real mommy. I want to know what happened to Claire!!!
- I was so happy that Sawyer gave up his seat on the helicopter. I hope we find out soon what he said to Kate.
44california girl--you may be onto something when you say that Locke's death is not what it appears to be. On Jeremy Bentham's wikipedia page, there's this following passage:
"As requested in his will, his body was preserved and stored in a wooden cabinet, termed his "Auto-icon". "
There's something funny about Locke in a coffin, and being taken on a plane in that coffin to crash onto the island. Shades of Christian Shepard!
45"So do we think the island was moved geographically or chronologically?"
Has to be geographically because chronologically wouldn't the island still be there...just at a different time?
46I think it moved both geographically and chronologically.
47thoughts:
-my friend thinks that the season finale when the portugeuse guys call penny and tell her they found it was actually a flash FORWARD to when they found the boat after desmond's phone call!
-also, when christian shepherd said 'you can go now' do you think the island transported the people on the boat away or just let michael die? i'm hoping that jin is alive, so i'm sort of pulling at straws here.
-also! saw this on darkufo about ben's badass asskicking baton - apparently you can see it in the first season when jack comes to in the jungle (http://losteastereggs.blogspot.com/2008/05/episode-101-pilot-object-with...)
48hmmm!
It was SOOOOO good. I seriously sobbed when Sawyer jumped out of the helicopter. SOBBED.
49I was glued to the television on the edge of my bed. What an incredible episiode! I think the most heartbreaking part was when Jin was left behind on the freighter...and blew up. I rarely cry while watching television but this left me a little teary eyed. How great was it when Christian Shepard told Michael he could go? Some really hilarious parts:
Locke: "Hey, was he talking about what I think he was talking about?"
Ben: "If you mean time traveling bunnies, then yes."
Ben definitely got the best lines of the episode. I think that Sun had the best performance, absolutely heartbreaking, but Ben was so immense. I couldn't help but feel so sorry for him when he told Locke that he would never be able to return to the island again.
I was super happy when Desmond and Penny finally reunited. At least SOMETHING happy happened.
And vivibear, don't worry. I was totally checking him out the entire time. But seriously, what would it take for him to die! Jesus, I almost jumped when I saw him again.
Also, what happened to the boat that went out to the freighter...? Are they just floating around?
The most shocking thing to me though was seeing Locke in the coffin. At that point I started saying "OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD" like it was a mantra. How freaking intense! Although I suppose I should've suspected when Walt said that Bentham visited him (btw he looks so freaking old!).
Also, Claire scared me sh*tless. I think that it's just her motherly side that's telling Kate not to bring Aaron back, but the way she was stroking Aaron's hand is so heartbreaking. Will she ever come back? If she does, what's going to happen with Aaron!
I'm honestly really upset with Sun for teaming up with Widmore. I know that Ben has done some crazy sh*t but I have to side with him. I wonder why Sun is so angry with Jack- after all, it was Lapidus who refused to land. Although JAck did rush them.
Why is a man watching Hurley? Where is Sayid taking Hurley?! Did love Hurley's comment about already being delusional, not needing to be paranoid.
