Apparently, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has been an inspiration to other old franchises looking to capitalize on nostalgia as Brett Ratner is aiming to resurrect the Beverly Hills Cop movies with a fourth installment. Eddie Murphy will reportedly "reprise his role as Detroit detective Axel Foley." Variety has more:
Studio is aiming for a 2009 production start and a summer 2010 release. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (G.I. Joe, Transformers 2) will produce. Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the original Beverly Hills Cop trilogy with late partner Don Simpson, won't be actively involved in the new film.
What do you think about this news? Totally unnecessary? Or possibly fantastic?

This could be great with the right script and supporting cast.
1A sure-fire way to guarantee that your movie will bomb with critics and audiences is to hire Brett Ratner as the director. How does he still get work? I've never heard one decent review of his work.
2I agree - I've never liked a single thing that Ratner has done. His X-Men movie dragged the entire franchise down.
3Well, I guess it might be better than some of his more recent choices (certainly has to be better than Norbit and Meet Dave).
4CollegeGirl has a good point!
I think if they modernize it, with over-the-top special effects and give Axel an iPhone, that would ruin it. I would like someone to make a movie like they use to, back when movies were good.
5Axel, as we knew him, is gone, Eddie couldnt conjure up that humor or his charm if he tried
6that would be like asking sean penn to do a fast times II
7i think it would be great , if the right people are behind it .
8Look on the bright side...it can't be worse than Cop 3.
9Eddie Murphy needs to sit down and shut up. I think we've had enough of his dumb insensitive brand of "humor". He's an asshat.
10Ratner ruins everything, not that the idea of a 4th Beverly Hills Cop really grabbed me though.
