The title of the Ugly Betty finale is also the title of one of my favorite Madonna songs (not on her new album, FYI), and it was used to close the episode. It's a fitting tune for this episode, since a lot of the characters were forced to take a proverbial leap of some sort last night — especially Betty.

If the Gossip Girl finale revealed too much, Ugly Betty left us with a considerable cliffhanger which actually surprised me! Overall I thought the show was really cute, as usual, and I'm sad to see it go. To check out the rest of my thoughts on last night, read more.
- Aw, poor 1999 Betty! I don't fully understand what that opening sequence was supposed to mean other than to show us that Betty hates sports (and, I mean, duh) and that she wasn't popular (again, duh) but it was totally heartbreaking and her teeth were really big. Also, Lindsay Lohan plays a mean girl who tormented Betty in 1999. Kinda fun but mostly "meh" as far guest appearances go.
- Now Naomi Campbell knows how to make a guest appearance (second only to Christian Siriano)! She showed up to the annual Mode vs Elle charity softball match in the most ridiculous sporty outfit ever. But would you expect anything less from the supermodel? And there was even a cute nod to her tendency to pummel others with her cell phones. The woman has a sense of humor!
- Back to Madonna for a second: There were a lot of tracks from her new album throughout the show. In fact, I think they were the only songs powering the episode. And we saw a picture of a baby Betty dressed up as Madonna for Halloween (thanks to Hilda).

- I loved the scene with Gio teaching Betty to play softball. Is it just me, or does he look cuter and cuter with every episode?
- When a little French boy shows up alone to the office, this is Amanda's response: "Do you mind if I dress you up as a doll and put makeup on you?"
- And. . . he's Daniel's son. I feel like I should have been more surprised than I was. Then again, even Betty wasn't fazed, saying to Daniel of the Meade men, "Sorry, but you guys are just really fertile."
- We learned too that the kid is actually not part of some sinister Wilhelmina plot, and was instead, as she put it, a gift from God. To which Marc responded, "Go God! And viva la France!"
- Speaking of cheery statements from Marc: How long do you think the writers have been waiting to get Marc and Amanda to perform a cheer together? It was a thing of beauty.
- So, I'm probably going to sound callous here but a lifetime with Henry in Tucson versus a romantic trip to Rome with Gio (paid for by Daniel!)? Um, seems like an easy choice to me, but I get why Betty feels torn. I guess.
Who do you think she's going to choose: Gio or Henry? I have a funny feeling she might choose herself and go somewhere alone (hence Madonna's lyrics when they zoomed out, "I can make it alone"). Are you sad for Daniel getting squeezed out like that? Did you find his son cute or kind of creepy? Were you sad that Hilda's new man is married (kinda?), and do you think he's sincere or going to turn out to be a sleaze? Discuss!

I'm thinking Daniel & Betty are going to start their own magazine with the help of Claire...hence the theme: "I can make it alone".
1I adored the episode last night and so hope Betty chooses Gio over Henry. It seems Henry was always choosing Charlie over her, so I'm done with his character.
I loved watching Naomi Campbell up to bat, and with cellphone in hand. She was hilarious but I didn't think much of Lindsay.
I can't wait for the next season to start up.
2i dont think that betty will move with henry because i dont think that the show would follow her there. they cant split it between the two states, and buzz, im with you on thinking that betty is going to go somewhere on her own
3I agree! I bet Betty is going to take some time off to be alone for a bit....although I do hope that she chooses Gio.
"Go God! And viva la France!" LOL!
4I want for her to choose Gio, but that wouldn't follow the usual TV scripting. She will go somewhere by herself that she has always wanted to go but hasn't (like her Mom never made it to the Grand Canyon).
Then it will go to where Gio is a little upset, and they have to build the chemistry again, or they throw another guy into the loop. Which I really hope they don't do. I hate how all series follow those same criteria.
5I bet Daniel will be back at MODE as the CEO taking over Alexis place (since Rebecca Romijn said she will no longer be on full time)...or maybe in bradford's will there will be something about "grandkids taking over the company blah blah and Daniel will be incharge untill his son is 18 blah blah..
6sorry its just me on my betty withdraw..woohoo cant wait till next season
I thought she might go to Rome alone. I mean, yeah, Gio will be in the city somewhere, but it's already paid for! But she definitely went somewhere alone, I think. Also, I totally agree that Daniel and Betty will start a new magazine. Makes sense. I was annoyed by how ambiguous the ending was- yeah, it's a finale, but I really wanted more!
7I think it is heavily implied that Betty chooses to go somewhere by herself. I highly doubt she would move to Tucson and she was't wearing an engagement ring at the end (which I have to credit the posters at Television Without Pity for noticing that). I would actually be happy with that because I think Betty needs some time to be by herself. I can't see Christopher Gorham coming back as Henry because of the whole baby thing
Why does he have to be the father? WHY??
8Yes, I agree...she was NOT wearing the ring...i thought the show made that pretty obvious with the extra long take of her left hand while she was hugging her dad....i hope she chooses gio...i agree that he gets hotter every time i see him
9Loved last night's episode. It was fantastic. I love Gio. I wish Betty would've picked him but I see why this has been hard for her. I would've picked Gio...but we can only imagine what Betty is feeling. I think its pretty clear she went alone and I had to download that song, Jump by Madonna. The little French boy was soooo cute. I am kinda glad Willy succeeded...I am sorry but she was born to run Mode. I think that guy Hilda was with was just to weird. He has more skeletons in his closet...I know it. I can't stand men like. Love Marc and Amanda. It was a great show last night.
10last night's episode reminded me of the ending in the book gidget..except gio and henry weren't yelling "shoot the curl".
11Gio does officially get hotter with each episode!! Love him. That little kiss on the grass made me melt and want to hang out with my boyfriend.
12I agree with everyone here. She goes on an "alone trip" which she needs to do since she's ALWAYS been dating SOMEONE the entire two seasons. It's time to be alone.
13I'm so on board with the whole Gio getting hotter every episode.
Last night I seriously went "Damn he's fine" when I first saw him.
And Betty definitely set out on her own but she's so going to end up with Gio.
Team Gio!
14i loved last night's episode! i really hope betty chooses gio. he brings out the best in Betty...henry was so boring. I feel really bad for Daniel but his constant paranoia of Wilhemina brought about his demise. I too was comparing this finale to GGs finale and what a stark contrast they are. Ugly Betty by far was the best leaving me wanting more whereas GG there are some resolutions that can hold me over until its return.
15I thought this episode was great! Hilarious as always and a little sad. I didn't think Lindsey's guest appearance would be so short and kinda pointless. I wonder how they are going to work her in for the 6 or so episodes shes supposed to be in next season. I don't really know who I want Betty to choose--if she went to Tuscon she would be able to have a real writing career, but like someone said earlier, I doubt the show would be the same or even exist if she moved away.
I thought the story with Daniel's son was sad but so cute. I'm glad he came around and started to be a good father. I was so mad at what Alexis did to Daniel and Claire was obviously upset with her as well. Can't wait to see what happens with that next season.
Amanda and Marc's scenes were hilarious as always and Naomi Campbell was good. Loved the dig at her cell phone throwing tendencies. Overall, it was a great season finale and I can't wait for the fall!
16gio IS super good looking and what a romantic. i'm cheering for him but i love my accountant boy henry. rowr. i can't wait till next season!
17I agree Buzz, Gio gets hotter and hotter with each episode! I also noticed the entire episode was filled with Madonna music and the Madonna reference--I thought that was a little strange!
As others said they wouldn't move the show to Tucson, but I wish she would go with Gio! For some reason this reminded me of the season finale of the first season of Felicity when she was choosing between Ben and Noel!
18The ending reminded me of the Season 1 finale of Felicity...we're going to spend all summer arguing over Gio v. Henry, who did she choose to spend her summer w/?!! I think Betty's a little more independent than Felicity though...I say she goes off somewhere on her own. (Although I secretly hopes she chooses Gio!!!!)
19Nice episode, though...
20what's wrong with that family everybody's after married or commited people?
From the father (his wife was with another man) to two daughters!
What a pattern! Even for a soap.
I'm all over Team Gio which is weird since I DID NOT like him at the start of this season. He was so cocky, but now it's sweet.
I have no idea who Betty will chose, but I have a theory that the Mode baby won't actually be a Meed. I think that it'll be Christine's (that's her name right...the Scottish lady). I think that her and the hubby were getting busy so often in the secret room that there wasn't much time to think of protection. Plus wouldn't that be an awesome twist to the story?!
21I think that Betty will definitely stay in NY, whcih means either alone or with Gio. Daniel needs her - and she is loyal to him, we have learned that many times.
I absolutley adore Marc and Amanda - can't say it enough - the cheer, Marc in a polo with a scarf, CLASSIC!
22I think she will go somewhere alone, which is good. She needs some time to get over Henry and get some perspective before she can start a real relationship with Gio.
As for Hilda's new love, I think he is hot but will be a total sleazeball in the end. Poor thing, I really want Hilda to be happy but I don't see it with this guy. Oh well at least he is nice to look at with a shirt of.
23I THINK IT WOULD HAVE BEEN REALLY AWESOME IF ALEXIS HAD TURNED OUT TO BE THE FRENCH BOY'S FATHER/MOTHER.
24I'm so excited for the new season! I really hope that Betty ended up going with Gio, who I HATED at the beginning of this season. I have a feeling that she went somewhere by herself though. As for Hilda's man, I think he's going to end up having some shady past and just not be a good guy for her. Mrs. Meade was really upset with Alexis, so I can see her trying to help Daniel start up a new magazine with Betty's help.
They definitely did a great job of setting up tons of story line for next season, I'll be looking forward to its return
25Team Gio!
26I like him more and more as he appears and he's good for Betty.
I loved the cheer between Marc and Amanda, there should be more Marc and Amanda. Seriously, why isn't there more of them? They're hilarious, I wish I knew people like them. Over all, a good episode, I can't wait for next season. I will definitely tune in to see who she picks.
i deff. thought the exact same thing...i bet she's gonna do something on her own. pity, cuz i wanted her to go with gio to rome. total no-brainer! =(
27I think kimdangirl is on to something here...the baby could definitely be Christine's--that would be a GREAT twist! It was interesting how much they pimped Madonna in this ep, but her song,"Jump" went right along with what Betty's dad was saying about "jumping off the diving board..." and taking that leap.
28what? I don't get the theory about how the baby would be christina's... how did he get to france? and there was no subtle hinting ever that christina ever had a baby.. if they threw that in there it would be so far out of left field, it wouldn't make any sense. I can see the paternity test coming back negative though... I bet that hand model was a total slut back in the day and slept with tons of people... maybe Alex pre Alexis?
Speaking of Christina... where was she?
29Henry needs to go. I can't stand him!
30I figured that Betty chose to go off to Rome alone.
If she does pick someone, I hope it's Gio. Henry passed up a good thing over and over in favor of sticking around for his nasty ex who has a baby that may or may not be his. He's so wishy washy that who could ever trust him to be fully devoted to her. And a marriage proposal out of the blue after kinda sort not dating for a few months? Run away Betty!
31I didn't like the ending, I knew they were going to leave us hanging but I wish they wouldn't have. I also think she is going to choose Gio or go by herself cause of the wedding ring, I can't see her moving away to Tucson, & they have been building up the likeability of Gio for quite a few episodes...of course they also did that before they killed off Santos-which I am still not over-so you never know.
I was finally on board with Gio & Betty after "the guy" speech, but I was rewatching seasons 1 & 2(early episodes) and it brought back all of the things I didn't like about Gio. The sundried tomatoes on her sandwich, taunting her about being a Mode girl, keeping the Wicked ticket, "quacking" when she made excuses about her career, etc. A lot of the things that may have been intended to be endearing I found extremely irritating, lol.
I don't like Tony or that Hilda went back to him. Is she just going to date him even though he's married? I mean he said he was falling for her but it was right after he said he was working things out with his wife. I think she should step back unless he wants to make a real commitment to her and only her.
Now for the good things about the episode!
-I'm a huge baseball fan and I love when players wear their socks over their pants, so I loved Henry and Gio in their uniforms
-Wilhelmina restating her alleged "plan" w/the french boy to Daniel. "I researched every woman you slept with..." I died when she said "..waited for the woman to die..." I could not stop laughing! I had to rewind it like twice.
-Amanda saying "But thank you so much for trying out!" to Betty about cheerleading
-Naomi Campbell putting on that show before her at bat
-Daniel imitating Wilhelmina's voice "Daniel doesn't know how to do his job" and it looked like she was saying that
-Willie and Marc speaking French to the boy and Marc's beret
And I think there may be something to the suggestion that it could be Alexis' kid. She said she remembered Daniel all over the mom so she/he was obviously there, and we know they are/were constantly competing with eachother. I think its possible the DNA results show relation but not paternity and he finds out Alex/Alexis is the dad.
32wow that post was ridiculously long
33Am I the only one who didn't really like this episode? It had its good moments but it was just, off. I'm really starting to find Daniel annoying. It seems like he never learns. I actually really love Willie and I'm rooting for her. [I always think of Daniel saying "Millaweina" when someone says her name]
I too think Betty left on her on but I'm pretty sure she ends up with Gio; Christopher Gorham said [along with Rebbecca Romijn] he wouldn't be a regular next season. It made me mad when he came back because they'd spent the last episode having Betty get over him and it made me love Gio so much [and I also hated him to begin with]. Henry just gave in to Charlie all the time even though he said he knew she was doing it on purpose.
Marc and Amanda are amazing as usual! Viva La France! Bon!
I like the french kid but he looks so femme!
34I thought it was so cute when the little French boy turned up as Daniel's son. I think that it's sad that Daniel had to go, but kind've inevitable, anyway, he's probably better on his own than with plotting family members, on his own he will never have to worry about other people freaking him out so much he can't work, ect, ect.
As for Betty, I think it's blatantly obvious she should go to Rome, but I agree that it seems she isn't really picking either scenario. I don't think she will go with Henry, I think that was just a last little spurt of drama to make the finale interesting.
I hadn't thought about Daniel and Betty making their own magazine, but after thinking about it, it makes perfect sense.
35Oh my, talk about a cliffhanger! Yes, I do agree. I think perhaps Betty will go to Rome by herself, you know, think things through. And yes, I also agree that Gio is getting cuter and cuter. Perhaps it's his new hair? Hehe.
Can't wait for next season!
36I think Betty is going to go it alone without either guy! That would be being the biggest leap for her. I hope that they come up with a great/heroic story line for Daniel.....I am SO tired of seeing him to the loser! As for Hilda and her Coach...UGH I am so mad that she went back to him. I think he is going to end up being a sleaze
I was not very happy with this episode. They didn't have to tell all but it was not even an exciting
cliffhanger. LOVED Naomi Campbell though! She was awesome!
37good show!! interesting "cliff hangar" Daniels son is a doll and we really hope he will be with the show full time-Bettys next move is cleverly left completely up in the air--Well done!!
38Pick Gio, pick Italy. I'm over Henry, he has away of showing up and ruining her good time, never fells with him. I like the way her and Gio interact he makes her carefree and fun.
And I completely agree Naomi was a great cameo, but Linds could have sat this one out, anyone could have done that bit part. Daniels son was cute, but not feeling Daddy Daniel at either.
39I don't think Betty is going anywhere...but she got her own place...she'll be living alone next season.
In the end...it won't be Gio or Henry...it'll be Daniel....in the end...
40It's Gio for the win! I really liked this episode. Too bad I'll have to wait a few months until the next season starts. I felt really bad for Daniel. Wilhemina is a she-devil for sure!
41I loved the suggestion that the baby Christine is carrying turns out to actually BE Christine and her husband's. (TO clarify, this has nowt to do with the French kid that showed up.) It also gets Willy out of the picture once and for all.
Problem is, I kind of think the show would lose some fizz without her....so she has to stay, somehow. I think I had read somewhere that Rebecca Romijn was not happy with the direction of the show..and in a way I understand. For me, anyway, Willy got "Pigeonholed" into an even more one-dimensional, driven character, and some of the humour was lost when you take her out of the magazine setting.
As far as Henry goes, he was cute in his way, and a bit näive in trying to stay with Betty when a baby was coming. I saw his desire to continue it all less selfish and more just not understanding what was about to hit them in the face.
As for Gio, give it time, I think Betty has never had a CHANCE to like him yet, because Henry was there. But the character he plays is just wonderful, I do not see how she will be able to resist forever.
As for Daniel, I just want him to be happy, grrr. He's also such a good character, flawed and yet very human.
Oh and I have to say this..Judith Light, if you ever read the internet posts about you, you..kick..butt. You are such an amazing actress. I am SO GLAD you are in this show!
42One final note: Amanda rocks. Funniest thing I have seen on TV in ages and her comic timing is superb. Marc is funny too, but Amanda always makes me howl. I still giggle at the scene at the Willy/Bradford wedding when she tries to get up and entertain them.
43Hopefully Betty will pick Gio. I want to see more Freddy Rodriguez in the show. Even if she doesn't pick him as her lover right now. Just give him time...
out of her. I just love that character...
Whoever created that character is a genius. I love bickering couples, I love caring friends. Not many characters can put Betty in the edge and bring the best (and the worst
Ah! next season premiere is still so far away... aaah!!
44betty always some problem , and me either...
