According to Hollywood Reporter, Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton will star together in a film adaptation of the Prince of Persia video game for Disney. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Mona Lisa Smile, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will be a "fantasy adventure" in which "Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world."
Jake Gyllenhaal in a fantasy adventure for Disney. . . Thoughts?

I have played this game. It sucks and so will the movie, even more so with this god awful actor.
1I wish they would find actors who at least look Persian...
2Weird and doomed to fail miserably. And I *like* Jake G, but the vast majority of his movies have bombed at the box office or have been just plain terrible.
3I also agree with ehadams, they probably should have found an actor that looked the part.
I think it could be interesting...
4I'm surprised by the casting choice, only because Jake Gyllenhaal doesn't strike me as action oriented nor does he loos persian,
But I have a soft spot for adventure/fantasy stories.
5I had heard that Orlando Bloom was supposed to get that part... oh, well.... Can't say the movie sounds even remotely interesting.
6Surely they could've found a Persian looking actor... right?
7Orlando Bloom and now Jakey? I didnt know the Prince of Persia is American?lololol...
8I must say Ben Barnes as Prince Caspian melts my heart.
if they choose any of these two the movie is going flop, prince of persian stand for the beauty , for god sake someone tell the producer this a big mistake, just look at jake face, they should choose an actor who is gorgeous and hot, this is an insult to persian's prince.
9looking at the animated picture, as an irianian i would say colin farrell would be a better choice for the part, if they want it a more believable charactor.
10one of my favourite games, but i have a bad feeling about this...
11No way! I use to love this game when it first came out! I always thought that it should be made into a movie but through Disney..hmm, now I'm just not sure! Definetly got me curious though*-)
12I still prefer Orlando Bloom for the part. I also think Jake is not Persian enough. Nevertheless, I'd still watch it
.
13Know nothing about this video game but will def watch the movie for Jake!
14So, obviously I didn't really think about this until I went back and read all your posts. I'm sure they chose him for the star factor, but hopefully they can do some good makeup to make him look Persian. Does anyone know of any Persian actors?
15SLB... you take that back! This is one of my faaavourite favourite games. I thought the guy from Lost, the one that was in Planet Terror was going to be taking the lead role. Eh, I think this is a pretty awful casting decision.
16What is peoples problem with Jake in this Persia movie? He is a great actor, athletic, charming and could make this role his own. I don't get the hate?
So I say congrats, Jake, I think you will be great!
17I'm a huge fan of the Prine of Persia series of games. I'm also a fan of Jake Gyllenhaal. With that being said, I can't believe they cast him in the role of the Prince. What in the world were they thinking? I did some research online and found this man http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1377352/bio David K. Zandi is not only an actor, but he is a real life, honest to goodness Prince of Persia! According to historical records he is one of the last male members of the Zand dynasty which rules the Persian Empire 1747 to 1779. In addition, he is a champion equestrian, he studied Fencing, Roman Sword Fighting in England and he studied martial arts as a child (Kick Boxing, Tae Kwon Do, Karate). Who could possibly be better in the role of the Prince than him? Certainly NOT Jake Gyllenhaal.
18Great research, AndreaDetroit!
19i've never played these games. i like fantasy/adventure movies, though - but i'm not sure about the choice of actors.
20Thanks Lynne!
21to andrea detroit wow he really looks like persian prince wow your awesome how did you find him. before seeing mr. zand i was saying:
I’M PERSIAN and as a persian girl i know , not orlando , nor jake ( with harsh facial feature , big nose tin lips and small eyes). they don’t look like persian prince at all , i know the only actor who has fare skin, but with dark soft stright hair and his facial features, and his body shape( remmber him in alexander) which resembles a persian prince, and is so perfect for the role would be COLIN FARRELL, and with him the charactor would be more believable to the audience which should be the main interest, any other actor would be a very big mistake.
now seeing mr. zand( may be they are looking for someone who is famous as well) i see he is the perfect chocie and looing at him i see how correct i was to see colin farrell a perfect actor to play the role if they are looking for an actor who looks like the charactor who is famaous as well.
22i hope you mind saying about mr. zandi in my next comments to let people know. thanks
23Nagoo7, you must not even be looking at Jake because he does not have small eyes, they are big and blue, his nose is proportion to his face.
24to : Metome
yes i'm, jake doen't fit the part, this role needs an actor who makes a more believable charactor. jake doen't no matter how much they will try. it would be a disaster.
25Well, I don't agree, Nagoo7
26to : Metome
not agreeing doen't not change the fact, he doesn't fit the part, period.
27I guess only time will tell how this movie and Jake do. I'm intrigued, though. I miss fantasy movies. The terrible casting, character interpretation, and story slashing by the people who did Narnia didn't cut it for me as a fan of the books.
28I remember the very first version of this game years ago! Pressing the shift key before jumping...
As for picking actors that look Persian... my Persian friends and colleagues here in Dubai all have different facial features, hair, skin, and eye colors (yes, some naturally blonde hair blue-eyed) so picking Jake is definitely up for debate.
29Oh, and I'm looking forward to watching the movie!
30I'm pained by the actor choice. I really like the Prince of Persia series. They should have picked Zandi.
31Well, being Persian myself, I must say it's a HUGE improvement over "300".
