Alright, folks, we're getting down to the wire on this season of Lost. Technically, this week's episode was "Part 1" of a three-part finale. We're getting so close to getting tons of answers I can taste it. Parts 2 and 3 will come in two weeks as part of a two-hour special. Until then, there's this week's episode to discuss.

One of my favorite parts of the last few episodes has been the merry trio of travelers we've gotten in Locke, Ben and Hurley. I'm going to miss their rapport and bantering when the season's over. Anyway, for more thoughts on this episode and to share your own, (spoilers ahead), read more.
- This episode seriously tugged on the ol' heartstrings a few times, first with the reunion amongst the Oceanic Six and their families (I personally lost it when Hurley brought Sayid over to his parents because there was nobody to meet Sayid; also, seeing Kate stand alone with Aaron made me sad). Then later when Claire's mother walks over to Kate and gazes at Aaron (knife enters gut) and tells her "Your son is beautiful," not knowing she's looking at her own grandson (knife twists).
- I want to know what Daniel Faraday knows about the Orchid station. He says they used "secondary protocol" and then freaks out and tells Charlotte they must leave the island.
- Ahhh, Sawyer with the baby, hot guy with a baby, hot guy with a baby! My ovaries kicked into overdrive a little there.
- I get annoyed with the exchanges Jack and Kate have sometimes, especially when she thinks he's doing something foolish and he doesn't care. It never really makes a difference what Kate says to him, and it's getting old.
- "That sonofabitch is stubborn. Hold up! You don't get to die alone." God I love Sawyer.
- The island gets a name! Membata, which, according to Lostpedia "is Indonesian for 'doubt' or 'uncertainty'."
- I was curious about how they'd explain away Kate's non-pregnancy before the flight. Guess they'll just dodge that one for now.
- Sayid and Nadia are so beautiful together. Do we know yet why Nadia gets killed by one of Widmore's men in the future? Do you have any theories?
- Ben calls moving the island "both dangerous and unpredictable. It's a measure of last resort." So, "moving the island" is. . .really going to happen?
- OK, Sun's dad is one shady dude. I think he might be involved in some way with either Widmore or Oceanic or both. The brief conversation we see between Sun's dad and the other two men, discussing what sounds like some kind of heist or fraud ("Whoever did it used five different banks") seems significant. I don't think they would include this scene if it weren't somehow meaningful.
- Also, GO SUN! "This morning I bought a controlling interest in your company. So you will now respect me." Love. Her. So. Much.
- Also again: "Two people are responsible for [Jin's] death. You are one of them." Who do you think the other one is?
- Hugo's parents' jokes about island life and that island party theme are so hilariously misplaced.
- We see the numbers again! 4815162342 on the dashboard of the car Hurley's dad (good ol' Cheech) gives him.
- So now Jack knows that Claire is his half-sister. I want to go back and watch flashbacks to Jack in the Sidney airport to see if we can spot what he wrote on the cocktail napkin for his father's eulogy. Did we ever see details of what he wrote? Do you remember this?
- Did they get a different person to score this show? The music seems slightly different, especially while Sayid is using the boat in the water, and the montage at the end of where everybody is (Kate and Sayid walking with Richard Alpert, Sun on the freighter, etc.).

What did you think of this episode? Do you like how they showed the flash-forwards of several different characters (Sayid, Kate, Sun, Hurley, Jack), rather than just one? Are you ready for the final finale in two weeks?

Great episode. LOVING SAWYER!
I have a feeling the other person Sun may be referring to is Charles Widmore, since Paik Industries has connections with the Hanso Foundation and Widmore Corporation.
My question is: Assuming that Keamy set the explosives in the engine room (which would explain that detonation-thing on his arm), why would he want to blow up the freighter? Doesn't it seem like that is his only means back to the mainland?
1So much going on! I loved how we finally found out how Jack knew about Claire. I knew he had to find out at some point. I feel so bad for Claire’s mom, seeing her grandson and not even knowing it’s him. Also, the way Sun was acting around Jack, I’m thinking he might be the other person she holds responsible for Jin’s death. Maybe it ended up being Jack’s call who got on the chopper? Or maybe she blames Michael, because something going to happen on the boat?
2Speaking of the boat, I’m thinking it was Keamy that set up those explosives, but if he did, how is he expecting to get off the island? From the trailer for next week, it looks like the chopper doesn’t have much gas, so how could he expect to get off the island to safety? Could there be another boat out there waiting for them? Or does he have some other plan?
And why hasn’t anyone thought about going to the Other island for safety?
I loved seeing Richard, I wonder what his plans are for Sayid and Kate. Also I’m wondering who he thought was at the Orchid station. Didn’t he think all his people were at the Temple? Maybe that’s where Richard is taking Sayid and Kate. And why were they wearing their old “disguises”? Richard was one of the original hostiles so I feel like if anyone can survive on the island (and never age) it’s him.
Oh and I love “Jesus is not a weapon”. OH AND!!!!! Sayid had a wedding ring on at Hugo’s birthday party, so I guess him and Nadia got married pretty quick!

Tarabara- I totally was thinking the same thing about the explosives. Maybe part of the second protocol has another boat. Keamy is CRAZY!!!!
I wonder if Daniel had some part in creating The Orchid specially since it was in his personal notebook and he had a crazy drawing of it? He seems to know a lot about how the island works and he seems to have known it before hand. His character definitely got a bit more interesting
4Sorry about the double comment above.
5I wanted to note something I found on Lostpedia about Sun's Dad:
In episode "D.O.C" - Moments later, when Sun goes to see him, she interrupts Mr. Paik having a conversation with his associates. The conversation is notably not subtitled despite all other Korean conversations being so in the episode. Translation has revealed that Paik was arguing about forged shipping documents which they were supposed to provide for the Hanso Foundation (or possibly vice versa). Paik warns that they must provide the equipment soon or their friends will become very annoyed (or possibly he will become very angry)
Richard bugs the crap out of me. He is EVERYWHERE (between being part of the Others, recruiting Juliet and visiting Locke when he was a kid), he never ever ages and we know nothing about him. I dont get it!!!
6Im dying to know more about Paiks involvement with Widmore and the Dharmas...
Sayid and Nadia melted me...Im soooooooo sad he lost her again...
7Jess- I never thought about Daniel creating The Orchid, but you totally bring up some good points with the whole notebook thing! The Orchid training video on youtube mentions the Casimir Effect, which relates to wormholes and electromagnetism. Daniel has extensive knowledge in these areas...Yes! I think you're onto something!
And Richard's agelessness (is that a word?) is creepy. But I'm wondering if he may just be a time traveler and only APPEARS to remain the same age. I never know with this show.
8Daniel really does seem to know much more than the other people hired on
Im hoping that since Richard is going to be in the finale that maybe they will divulge some info about him. I also wonder that now the Oceanic 6 rescue is being shown how much of the island will be shown in the new season. Lost isnt Lost with out the crazy island and the people connected to it
9Daniel's notebook is also where he would document all his stuff about Desmond being his constant, so maybe his knowledge of The Orchid comes from that, too, from knowing Desmond in that way? I dunno, just a thought.
10The only time Richard appeared differently was when he first met Ben. He had scraggly long air. Other than that he has always been very well groomed. Im really hoping for more info
11Desmond had been on the island for what 3 years? So Daniel has known about Desmond and all the weird stuff for 3-4 years at least. So there is a real possibility of him knowing much more than everyone else about the properties of the island. I wonder though if he studied this stuff on his own or if he was hired very much in advance of the trip. Also remember the missile test thing he did when he was first on the island. I need to tap into the writers brains
12Do you think that Desmond knows about all the other Dharma stations though?? I'm just wondering if he would have a lot of knowledge since he was never employed by Dharma and the fact that he remained in the Swan station pretty much the whole time he was on the island (prior to meeting the Losties, of course) to push the button.
Also, another question. In the press conference, Jack and the publicist mentioned that they crashed in the WATER in the INDIAN ocean. But at Kate's trial, Jack said they crashed on the ISLAND in the SOUTH PACIFIC. Is this merely a mistake on the writers part? Something tells me no...
13I find Richard's agelessness fascinating - he's creepy but not in a Benjamin Linus kind of way. I'm also really curious to see where the show is going to go with the Oceanic 6 off the island because I will die if I don't get enough Sawyer time, and yes the baby + Sawyer = adorable. He's been amazing lately!
I agree with everyone above, there is definitely more to Mr. Paik. He's always been bad news, but maybe he's like the Korean Widmore. Good for Sun sticking up to him!
By the way, could someone just get rid of Keamy - I am so worried about what psychotic thing he's going to do next.
14I would think that they would start messing up on stories and maybe someone clever will uncover their whole story one day bringing even more questions and attention to the island and what happened there
15I thought when Sun's father was having the conversation with the other men and they say "Whoever did it used five different banks" it referred to Sun taking a controlling interest in her father's company. Maybe that's just me though. I've been wrong before!
I definitely hope we see more Daniel and Richard next year. I also hope that Keamy guy dies a slow, painful death.
16I would think that Richard and The Others will come to the rescue and probably take Keamy out. Plus I think the island will totally go to his head like that chick who threw herself overboard. We already know that Ben is not going to be killed
17I was SHOCKED that Jack found out that Claire was his sister. I thought that'd never be revealed. Although now it gives a lot more depth to what he said to Kate about Aaron: "You're not even related to him."
I'm dying to know who the other person Sun was referring to. Herself, maybe? Michael? And one of the main things I'm DYING to find out is how exactly Sun gets away and how Jin doesn't. And how (if?) he really dies.
I heart Hurley's parents SO much. His mother has always cracked me up, and, well, it's Cheech! That was crazy about the odometer in the car. We haven't seen the numbers in a long time.
I also really like Daniel, but why is he still wearing a tie, for chrissakes?
I also am dying to find out what happens to some random people who don't get off the island. Namely: Juliet, Desmond, Rose and Bernard. Maybe R&B decide to stay because of her cancer? Of course, I'm also dying to know about Claire.
Like everyone else, I heart Sawyer.
18Oh, and Keamy has GOT to die soon. I hope, anyway.
19I wonder though if more people get off the island but go underground like Ben. The only reason we know about the Oceanic 6 is because they are public. Ben and Richard obviously have means of getting off the island so why couldn't some of the others like Juliet and Desmond do the same?
20I also loved how Sawyer is so protective of everyone. Like how, when Frank told him that whoever was with Ben was in danger, and he was like, "Hugo's with Ben." Aw, what a softie.
21BTW how shady of the Oceanic company is obviously helping with the cover up of the real island. But then again the 6 seem to be trying to protect the island and probably its leftover people by saying they all died
22yeah, i thought the "5 different banks" thing referred to Sun's buying up shares.
23Haha, love the tie comment Whiplash. I like to think it gives him that nerdy sex appeal. Charlotte seems to be digging it.
24Sun's father definitely looked guilty of something when Sun was accusing him of being responsible
25I'm so glad to see an empowered Sun stand up to her dad. He was (and still is) cruel and deceptive...
26I hadn't thought about the 'others' island! It seems to have sort of dropped out of the story for the moment. My impressions:
1) Also got kind of choked up when they were getting off the coast guard plane to see their families- the part with Hurley grabbing Sayid to meet his parents was really touching. Hurley's parents were just altogether fabulous the entire episode.
2) I think Keamy has the transmitter attatched to him specifically to blow up the freighter if anything happens to him. It's a dead-man's switch- if he doesn't get off alive, he doesn't plan for anyone to. I think Richard and the others saw Keamy and his guys coming ( they didn't use the mirror?) and ran off to hide- or maybe Ben warned them with the mirror and they left? Anyway, I think too that they will come in and take out Keamy. Or maybe if the island gets moved, Keamy will be trapped there WITH Ben, Locke, etc. That sounds exciting and fun for next season!!
3)Daniel definitely has figured something out that no one else knows or will believe. But he also seems to legitimately be trying to save people and isn't just in it for himself. I do think the Orchid is some kind of wormhole or something and he is afraid Keamy is going to destroy the island with it. If they 'move' the island, maybe that re-adjusts the space-time continum or something and it won't explode? Physics makes my head hurt...
4) I thought too, that Sun's dad was referring to her mystery buy-out of the stock when he was talking about the different banks. Yea Sun!! But I also thought it was sad, because I thought that the second person she held responsible was herself. If it isn't, she will now be in a position of power to find out a lot of possible secrets and go after whoever she DOES consider responsible ( Widmore, maybe?)
Does anyone else see a pattern here? Jin dies and Sun will try to avenge him. Nadia dies ( so sad!!) and Sayid goes to work with Ben... maybe Ben does really make the world and we're just living in it?
5) It was fun to see the numbers again. Kind of missed 'em.
6) Still trying to figure out what's up with Christian being dead. Yes, you would think the authorities in Austrailia couldn't mistake a thing like that, but... something weird is still going on with that.
I'm also hoping for more Smokey in the finale, Can't wait!!
27ZOMG I was freaking out when I saw Claire's mom at Christian's funeral. I was like OMG she woke up from her coma! OMG she is gonna tell Jack that Claire is his half-sister! OMG Jack is gonna have to act like he doesn't really know Claire that well! (because she "died" in the crash). So many OMG moments.
I also was creeped out when Hurley's car showed the "numbers." I would have flipped out like he did.
28I also thought it was really sweet to see Sayid and Nadia together again. Too bad that someone kills her later on.
Haha btw didn't anyone else think that Sayid and Nadia's kiss was kinda awkward? I love them together but it was a really strange close-up.
29So interested to see who the "oceanic 6" say the other 3 people are who made it to the island but died (since Aaron would be 6 but was born on the island and not in the 8 that survived the crash) especially since it seemed significant that Sun said that Jin died on impact
LOVED SUN with her dad - way to go!
I think that Daniel says they need to get off the island cause the orchid is what will "move the island" so if they move it, they probably won't have the bearing to get off? I don't know, just a guess.
30Sigh loved that scene at the funeral. I was vair amused when I found out my friend apparently missed all the signs that claire was jack's sister xD
31does anyone think claires dead? ohh and what about ben, i think he got kinda cocky when the episode ended?
32I dont think Claire is dead at all but I find it really odd that she would leave her baby and is comfortable with her supposed dead father. She definitely knows something that the rest of us dont
33Remember how they said that 8 of them made it to the island but only 6 survived? I wonder who they said the other two were?
34I think the 5 different banks bit is how Sun bought the shares... Generally, when that sort of thing goes down it seems there are always more than one bank involved, to avoid suspicion until it is too late (at least that is what I gather from movies/TV).
35You know, with your comment, Buzz, I just now realized I noticed the music a lot more in this episode than I usually do. I think you might be on to something. It certainly did seem different.
36Also, though Sun's taking a controlling interest in her dad's company is totally awesome, it is sooooooo not Korean. You'd NEVER see something like this done on a Korean show. No way. I can't help but wonder in just how many ways the Korean aspects/scenes in the show have been American/Westernized...
37puzzle - what do you mean it's so not korean? as in It's not something someone would/could do in Korea? Well Sun was planning on running away to America, so she might have more westernized ideas.
38puzzle - what do you mean it's so not korean? as in It's not something someone would/could do in Korea? Well Sun was planning on running away to America, so she might have more westernized ideas.
39So my hunch is that by the end of the finale the island will be moved, the boat will explode and the last 6 (8?) will be in the raft, floating in the middle of the ocean...(because didn't the rescue picture from the press conference show them pulling that ashore?) If the island moves, and the 6 don't know where it went it would explain Jack's obsession to find it in the flash-forward, and it would make it feasible to continue the story of the characters on the island. I also think the boat will have to explode because otherwise there would be too many loose ends that would discredit the plane crash story. The only questions are who stays on the island, who dies in the boat explosion and how do the 6 all end up floating in the raft at the same time?
40This is just my speculation, but... remember what happened to Desmond when he was first on the boat (flashing in and out of timelines). There were others that the very same thing happened to, and they all died (the communications guy who died was telling Des about all that had been going on) perhaps that is how Jin dies - if you remember in Sun's future there was a flash of 'future Jin' that was very different than his current, somewhat more like his... past.
I'm still working on how is it certain people are affected and some are not....
41Yeah. I just meant that you probably would never see a woman doing something like that on a Korean show/in Korean culture. The whole thing just seemed kind of incongruous to me: it was a Korean scene on an American show, and definitely Americanized. And yes, you do have a good point; she does seem to have more of a Westernized mindset, so that's why she was able to do it. A good thing, I think...but just so Western-seeming to me.
42i think ben has nadia killed to bring sayid over to his side. Just get that feeling.
43i don't think sun buying the shares had anything to do with being korean or american - more of her rebeling against her father after realizing he does not have her best interests (or any of her interests!) at heart.
i think that daniel's journal is his way of communicating with his past self - meaning that the orchid notes could have been made by future daniel?? he went to the journal when he was worried about desmond meeting his past self and was relieved to see his notes about desmond, right? so maybe future daniel knows about the orchid, not that he built it.
also, OMG I LOVE LOST.
44ingalinnea- Part of the 6 are on the boat and the others on the island so something has to happen to bring them together. I think that those rescue pictures were staged. It seemed a bit convenient that they happened to have pictures
45DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was so upset because in the scene where they found the explosives, and Sun and the baby walked away, I got the feeling that Michael, Jin, and Desmond die on the ship. The music at that part was very telling and I'm just already broken up over that.
I hope I'm wrong because what about Desmond and Penelope, Jin and Sun, Michael and WALLLLLLT??? WHYYYYY!!! Damn you LOST and then they leave it up in the air for me to obsess over for two weeks!!!
If you think about it though it would make sense because they have all seem to come at some peace. Jin's mission was to save Sun and his baby get them off the island- which he has. Michael has been trying to make up for his wrongs and save them- which he has. Desmond has been searching for his Penny- and he's found her. So their work is done.
I wonder who Ben has waiting for him at the Orchid...who answered his signal and have they been there for, what was it, 12 or 15 years?
What's up with the big lie about the island anyways? I'm sure it was all brilliant Jack's idea! And now he can't even tell the truth to Claires poor mother about her grandbaby!
If I would have made it off that island I would have been an out of breath blabbering fool. I'd be like monsters and polar bears, whispers, dharma, crazy Ben, man don't age, smokey gonna get me...
I hope it's a real 2 hr finale you know how Lost likes to do a recap hour!
46hotsutff- I had the exact same thought when those 3 were in the engine room with the explosives! I really hope Desmond and Jin somehow live!
I can't wait to see how the blanks get filled in...
47hotstuff — your "blabbering fool" paragraph made me laugh out loud. It's so true, though, how can they keep from letting out all their secrets? Such restraint. And I thought the same thing with the explosives, especially since it seemed like they played the music and started going slow-motion on Jin holding the baby... I was terrified that Desmond was going to get blown up with the rest of 'em.
48Frankly, I don't think I could deal with that right now.
I was really sad to hear Sun refer to Jin as having been killed. I think he dies on the boat. I'm going with the time travel theory though, so all will be well in the end I hope!
49just one thought - if juliet and desmond do get off the island, they can't be part of the oceanic 6 because they weren't on the flight.
